Do you skip crafting on alts?

How do YOU manage it all? Do you have one character that has everything researched? One character with all 7 crafts? Your alts with none? Split somehow? Do you do writs on all characters but only put significant point investments in one character?

Please share your thoughts and experiences. Thanks.

Actually, my alt is my soon-to-be Grand Master Crafter so my main I can dedicate points to skills.

I could do writs on my 3 characters, because two of them have most traits researched, and my main is almost a grand master crafter with everything researched, but I choose to spend that writs time doing something else in the game. I do not have to much time to play so, if I do writs, I do them on one char.

I just don't understand how some can do this grind on 15 chars... I can barely do it on 3, even if I have plenty of time, it is just to boring.

I do them so I don't have to do other tasks that are tedious to me.

I always have improvement materials, so I don't have to shop and buy them.

I always have gold so I can buy any furnishings I want from the weekend vendor, and jewelry from the golden vendor

I always have gold so I can buy things from the crown store (with others gifting it to me)

I always have gold so I can buy the undaunted monster style helms/shoulders without running a dungeon 100x hoping for a drop.

I can buy any gold-purchasable house in the game, instead of spending real-world money to buy them with crowns.

I personally find them relaxing and easy to do when I get home from work, check my social media, read the news, catch up on a TV show, eating dinner, etc... Everybody is going to have a different opinion about it.

I agree. Writs are just one way to make gold. Those that want to do it on many characters, can. Those who enjoy other farming options can use those.

Ive increased the characters I do writs on slowly, when I have time, because they are a good source of income.

But limiting it to once per account sounds dumb. It takes away from people who dont want to do all the other farms and forces them to do content they might not enjoy.

I have one character that is THE crafter, knows all the motifs/recipes, every trait is known, etc. Every other character I have that is over lvl 50 is also set up to do writs and on their way to be 8 traits on cloth/wood/blacksmithing, and whatever I happen to have lying around for jewelry. All the alts only get whatever recipes and motifs that aren't worth selling. I don't do writs on characters who haven't hit level 50 yet though, because the amount of gold they get is less until that point. So I have 12 characters in total that can do writs. It takes me about an hour to run through them, including mount training on any that need it still, starting new items for research, deconning on characters that haven't hit level 50 on a crafting area, selling off nonsense, and hitting the bank. I do not do it everyday, although I should try to. I like the gold lol.

Can you buy the monster helms/shoulders? I thought you had to run the content to get them and my one experience with nMA was not good and buying them would be better. (If that is where you get them.)

I had thought they were bind on pickup, but this would be good news for me, even if they are a bit expensive.

I'm referring to the STYLE pages you can get from running them. Not the monster helms itself. They have typically had them available for a 4 week span. The current one is the Velidreth Helm/Shoulder I believe. Again, these are not the equipable monster helms/shoulders with the special 2 piece bonuses, they are simply the style pages for adjusting your outfit to use those styles.

You can, however, buy monster helms when they come to the golden vendor in Cyrodiil.

I just figured out it is the Scalecaller dungeon that has the helm and shoulders I want (per altcasthq.com). What a painful fight.

Good points on the motifs though. I am just starting to stock up on those now. It will take quite a while and can suck up a lot of gold.

Helms pop up via RNG at the Golden vendor so each week it is the luck of the draw. They go for 100K gold as I recall and might or might not need to be transmuted depending upon your character class/type. I think shoulders can show up there as well but I have never paid much attention. The shoulders are still purchased with Undaunted Keys as well. You can either use 1 like today or 5 keys to get a roll for a specific dungeon's monster shoulders sets. I've bought helms fro the Golden vendor but still use the Undaunted Pledge Masters for the shoulders and style pages.

The Golden vendor is in each faction's home base in Imperial City so you will need to own the DLC or have an ESO+ subscription. You get to IC via the Alliance War page and select one of the IC campaigns. This drops you off in the home base for your faction and is a safe area. To see what is being offered that weekend without having to enter IC look on the General Forum for the Golden vendor thread. Don't quote me but the post usually shows up around 8PM on Friday. Here is a link to past weekend's posting: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/493394/eso-golden-vendor-items-2019-09-13/p1https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/493394/eso-golden-vendor-items-2019-09-13/p1

I have ten characters. They are all at level 50 in every base-game crafting skill, and now that Summerset is a DLC, they're catching up on Jewel Crafting, too - three completed so far. Not every one has all the crafting passives yet, as most have priority needs for their skill points, but all have at least three skills at top writ level, just allotting skill points when we had nothing better to use them for.

That means 50k per day from the regular round of writs, which buys houses reasonably quickly, or motifs, or whatever else we want.

Getting there was just a matter of taking turns to deconstruct everything the crew picked up (except the ornates, which are better sold). The main crafter makes the research pieces for the "younger" ones, using lowest level material.

It does take a bit of time to do all that crafting, but I'd have to grind something else for the same income. The return of materials is good enough now, that I don't need to go foraging, just collect the surveys when supplies are low. Doing multiples at once saves some effort getting there.

I am deconstructing even the ornates in jewelry. It is more because even a tiny bit helps with JC. It takes so long as it was.

I recently started doing this as well, after reading another poster saying they did it. Only for jewelry, though; the other non-consumables go up so fast. My first 3 characters are capped on cloth/smithing/wood (the first is capped on everything), so now the intricate pieces "cascade" to the lower ones, and it's only going to pick up like the proverbial snowball rolling downhill. My 4th and 5th chars will soon be capped on these 3 as well, and they were created much later.

Any way you choose to do it is going to take time: such is crafting.
Doing all writs on all characters (regardless of the skill's level and points spent) is the way I do it, though when I have less time on my hands I only do it on the characters with a significant amount of traits researched (6+) and motifs learned - both important factors in the chances you have to get master writs.

Given the grains that drop now from jewelry dailies I've decided to level up all my NA alts and get them doing dailies. My 2nd alt is done but it took my main making around 150 platinum rings to deconstruct to get him to level 50.

I plan on getting them all started on the Psijic skill line so they can see portals. That jewelry infused mat is worth a lot and the more alts running around finding portals the better.

I do crafting on all my alts, but the majority of the time, only 6 of them do the daily crafting writs. These 6 all do top-tier writs. Lately, I've been doing them on all 11 of my characters, since multicrafting was introduced. I'm on console, so no add-on to assist. But, with multicraft, I've started taking additional time on the weekend to craft 2 sets of each gear writ and enchanting writ and keep up my stock on the potions/food for those writs. Then, during the week, I just log on with each character, pick up the writs, then turn them in. This does require having room in their inventories, though, and of course the extra time on the weekend, but I more than make up the time during the week when I just log in; pick up writs; turn them in; open boxes; sort inventory; log out.

As for crafting knowledge, my main knows everything (except the newest motifs) and most furnishing plans (sans the uber expensive ones like Dwemer purples). All my alts (except my new necro, who's still working on research) has learned all traits except nirnhoned and triune (a couple are still working on swift, as I only research that when I get another research piece from the daily writs). All of them know all enchanting and alchemy traits. They know all basic blue/purple motifs plus cheap motifs or some holiday motifs. They are learning all recipes, but that's because I get so many from daily writs (many are doing provisioning writs at lower levels to get the recipes; I move them up a tier when all have learned them for that tier).

It's not really necessary for the alts to learn all recipes, but it's something I started at PC launch and have just continued; although it's been slow going since I've added more alts over the years. I just have this personal idea of them all being self-sufficient crafters for consumables and daily writs, but then just one who can craft anything they would need in terms of gear and anything in terms of housing.

Incidentally, crafting writs was my main source of income, before I got into trading shortly after console launch. I never did any trading on PC, but was rather self-sufficient, outside of trading items with my spouse. But, I was able to make enough gold from crafting writs to upgrade my bank and all my characters bag slots, buy the then expensive nirnhoned pieces for research (there wasn't much else of a gold sink back then for a solo quester who farmed all her own mats and crafted all her gear).

I do pretty much all of my crafting on my main, where I also have all traits researched and a bunch of motifs/blueprints/recipes learned. I'm trying to get to the point where I have provisioning and alchemy at max level on all my characters, and also do the dailies on all of them, but I'm a bit too lazy, so so far I only really do the dailies on one character and occasionally on some of my others.

Though reading about how much gold people are getting by doing it on all their chars is pretty compelling, not gonna lie
