Will crafting ever update?

We got jewelcrafting not long ago. But I wonder if the crafting cap will stay at 50 forever? For me it gets kind of dull harvesting the same old ruby wood and ancestor silk all the time. We got new alchemy ingredients from dragons now but what about other professions?

The game is scaled so adding new tiers of gear & materials doesn't really make sense. This has been discussed hundreds of times on the forums before. Basically what will happen if the increase to gear cap to let's say CP200, your current CP160 gear will be nerfed to about current CP120 level, and the new gear will have exactly the same stats as CP160. This would require everyone to re-grind the old content, to get exactly the same gear they grinded months or years ago. Which would be hugely unpopular and probably kill the game.

Your "upgrade" would be akin to increasing the gear cap level.

This would make everybody re-farm ALL of their gear.

They did this at the start of the game, increasing gear levels. They wisely stopped.

I would stop playing if they ever raised the gear cap (without a way to "improve" my already gotten gear), as I've spent hundreds (if not thousands) of hours farming for the gear I have.

Well, besides primary crafting, there is also transmutation, master writs, furnishing crafting. The system is pretty complicated as it is. I mean I can realistically max out crafting on a newly leveled character in just a week, if I simply deconstruct all gear I get - jewelry, woodworking, blacksmith, clothier, enchanting - or half an hour if craft the same cheap consumables - alchemy & provisioning. But fully researching 9 traits on everything, with all passives allocated takes over a year in real time, there are thousands of furnishing blueprints, and over 70 motifs for gear, of which the majority are broken up in 14 pages for different pieces. If you set out to collect those, it will cost you an 8 figure sum.

One of the good things to me about ESO is the gear cap, if that were increased, I would have no desire to re farm all my gear again and would probably stop playing.

As for your point of getting tired of farming the same mats, adding new mats won't change that you will just be farming some new mats in place of the old ones in the exact same way.

I honestly don't know what they could add to crafting at this point, the professions seem fairly well fleshed out.

I would not mind if they added a furniture crafting station though, that has access to all are known furniture plans/blueprints, so I don't have to visit every single crafting station type to figure out what I can make.

Other than that can't really think of anything, I am somewhat biased, in hoping they added an 8th crafting skill line, just so I could make more gold with daily writs but I can't think of anything to add.

I would like to see them have all tiers of mats out in the world, only the number of mats used determines the level of the gear.

Now, this would make it harder to gather enough for CP160 gear, so perhaps a 50% spawn rate based on your material passive. Or a check box that let's you select a mat level if you have unlocked it.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

What your asking for is basically an increase to the gear cap. Which would mean we’d have to farm everything all over again, which would suck hard. I don’t care how “dull” you think it is harvesting the same red looking ruby ash. You weigh that up against having to farm gear all over again then your “it’s dull” complaint carries absolutely no weight with me. I’ll take harvesting a bazillion more ruby ash over farming all those sets ALL......OVER.....AGAIN.

So no, keep farming that ruby ash.

I actually wouldn't mind increased gear cap - but that's just me. I don't think it's likely to happen, as I might be one of two or three total who feel that way.

Then again, I'm not fussed about gear in this game anyway since I don't do "end game" crap.

I don't know what it is about all this accumulation of "stuff"?

For the casual player that has no intention of repeating daily writs every day for gold mats, surveys, writs etc., I'd gladly trade my crafting bag from ESO plus for the ability to deconstruct gear with a recycling option and get back the gold mats I originally invested, and use them in new set items I want to try out.

I Just want make new sets, try them out and play the game, I don't need to be the Rockefeller of MMO. It would be nice if folks that invest in a monthly subscription could get a perk line like that rather than repeating the same task ave aeternum.

Well what if they remove cp level from materials like alchemy ingredients? Then they could add new materials in new chapters so we can use those to make new gear sets they add? And materials would be found according to zone not your cp level?

Bot farming needs attention if ESO is ever going to expand on anything new.

At first I thought OP was talking about one thing but realize they were not talking about what is really important.

First of all, crafting being capped at 50 is just fine. There is no reason to increase the cap further as it would be just a stupid and silly grind to get it to 55 or 60. Considering it takes nothing to get a new character to level 50 in all crafting that should seem obvious. What would we get that extra bit of decon, spending one more SP to be able to craft a higher level gear? Not worth the effort for Zos to even deal with it. Pretty sure we do not need more passives in blacksmithing.

Why do I think Zos would not want to deal with such a petty change? Zos has raised the gear cap 3 times since the game was released and added a new material level the last time. At no point did they increase the crafting level because it would be pointless to do so.

But then they realized just how wildly successful the auto-leveled DLC zones are, and they decided to make the whole game like that, instead of having a range of levels for each zone. First they scrapped the old veteran system (June 2016) then they made the whole game fully scaled (October 2016). Since then the game has become way more populated. They'll never revert to the old tiered model.

Well they did hint at spell crafting, but I doubt this will be implemented as the other crafting professions. In the other Elder Scrolls games you could create spell scrolls with various spells you had learned. That would be pretty much the only thing you could craft, but I doubt it will be introduced in this game the way it was introduced in the others.

This is asking for a gear cap increase in diguise.

    How about NO!

Regrinding gear is not interesting and compelling game play.

Most of the playerbase would quit immediately.

It takes months to complete researching all traits. That wasnt a big enough time sink for you?!

    How about NO!

Regrinding gear is not interesting and compelling game play.

Most of the playerbase would quit immediately.

    =DEAD GAME

It takes months to complete researching all traits. That wasnt a big enough time sink for you?!

Well..the game has been out a while..

    So?

There are plenty of things to do in this game to keep busy doing things more interesting than grind gear again.

If I didn't outright quit, I would delete all but my main and my crafter. No way I'm going to regrind gear for all of my characters.

Yes but not crafting wise once you have all the traits. If you like crafting it's kind of sad
