IS stream snipping against the ESO TOS?

theshockcable

Hello ,

as you know I'm theshockcable a twitch streamer.
So here's a question is stream snipping against the TOS in eso?

No killing people in PvP is not against the TOS, in fact it's the entire point of the game mode. If you tell everyone your position in zone chat or, in your case, stream it, that's your own problem.

And do you really assume everyone knows you?

The question is about stream snipping actually watching someone's stream to gain tactical advantage and stream snipe.
So, this means i'm asking a ZOS employee if it's breaking the tos seeing is as it's using a third party to gain an advantage over a player.

Ok but then if you use your stream to get allies (aka networking) is that using a third party to gain an advantage over other players?

What? They are not using any third party software to gain or manipulate information from the game, they are literally just watching a stream you knowingly provide. By that logic looking up guides is "gaining a advantage over a player" as well.

seems like people here need to stay on topic or get reported for trolling.
  • theshockcable
Clearly stream snipping fits under twitch's rules of harassment being that streamers are covering a game provided by zos it should be covered some where there too and like i said before .

People have been banned for it before. Something to do with a bridge. Shouldn't really matter if you're an a-hole or not.

Not sure about stream sniping, but if it's bad enough that it will fall under harassment then it definitely becomes actionable for that reason. I suppose one or two kills would be hard to prove as a stream snipe anyway, but if someone is following you all night long, you could try a harassment report and see what happens.

I don't think you'll get much compassion from the player base in general as most would see a streamer as openly relaying their position on purpose. You could say that the delay in the stream will help in some situations like nailing down exact positions and if you can add a greater delay you can help matters a bit there at the expense of your audience interaction.

If you're looking for a response from ZOS, they may come on in the morning and check it out or tag them specifically. You could also try a support ticket with the question and see if you get an official response.

Shockable the guy who calls anyone who kills him a cheater or a stream sniper. The question you should be asking is if falsely reporting ''speed cheating'' and getting your viewers to mass report them is against TOS.

It’s probably about as much against the TOS as t bagging or hate whispering people and using derogatory names or words. Tolerated but not really allowed.

Well this is the PLAYER forum and not ZOS help desk, also i think if you'd taken the time to actually read the terms of service, you would find your answer.

Is this like "ghosting" in Counter-Strike? If so, I think it seems un-ethical and shady, but I don't know if it counts as cheating.

Technically YES - it falls under harassment.

But I maybe wrong today, since I last seen somebody get 24 hr ban for ganking Sypherpk back in 2016. But hopefully I'm wrong - I think it would be fun. And if there streaming and they suck - they deserve it. IMO - 😂

What part of the ToS do you propose "stream sniping" would even be against? I read them and nothing appears to mention using social media to gain knowledge of another player's location or perspective. Professional gaming organizations, as well as other casual streamers, mitigate this by using a delay on their stream. This tool is 100% available to you if you believe that this is happening.

There's nothing I found in ToS about using social media to "gain an advantage" over another player. If you tweet your location, is someone "tweet sniping" you by reading it? You're making this information public by streaming

To directly contradict what someone said above, stream sniping does not appear to be described in the ToS section about what you cannot do regarding harassment:
    Harass, stalk, threaten, embarrass, spam or do anything else to another user of any Services that is unwanted, such as repeatedly sending unwanted messages or making personal attacks or statements about race, sexual orientation, religion, heritage, etc.;

They do, however, include "bullying" as behavior that goes against the ToS:
    Take any action, organize, transmit any Content, effectuate or participate in any activity, group, or guild that is harmful, tortuous, abusive, hateful (including “hate speech”), racially, ethnically, religiously or otherwise offensive, obscene, threatening, bullying, vulgar, sexually explicit, defamatory, libelous, infringing, invasive of personal privacy or publicity rights, encourages conduct that would violate a law or is, in a reasonable person's view, objectionable and/or deemed to be in the sole discretion of ZeniMax inappropriate;

Which wouldn't punish your killers for watching your stream (which is in fact the point of streaming), but you could cite it in a report if you felt they were maliciously targeting you in a bullying way. But that's pretty subjective. And I feel proving it would be difficult to impossible. How do you even know someone is stream sniping?

If I’m the one being killed, then yeah, it’s cheating and you should be banned from ever touching a video game.

    They are always so pure.

And no, no one cares. PvP in ESO is not competitive enough for that to even matter.

So, this means i'm asking a ZOS employee if it's breaking the tos seeing is as it's using a third party to gain an advantage over a player.

By this definition you would also be breaking the tos since your using it to show your allies where you and the enemy are so they can quickly join thus giving you an advantage and to voice communicate with them which also gives you an advantage over a player as well. You can't have both ways, use it to benefit yourself and friends but expect people to be banned and blocked for using it against you.

In the same tone, groups using discord and what not to communicate would also be guilty

Except of course they aren't. If you chose to broadcast your position and activities then either put a delay on it or deal with the consequences like every other streamer does.

I'm sorry, did you click the wrong link. This is the PLAYER forum where you know, players ask questions and/or make posts and other players respond sort of like exactly what happened when you made this thread.

I know, I know, the forum and the help desk look so much alike it's really hard to tell them apart. Here let me help you since your having so much trouble with it, you want this link if you want an employee response: https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/

if you use OBS you can build in a delay to your stream of say 180 seconds so where you are on your twitch is always 3mins behind your actual in game location, i NEVER stream PvP without at least a 3min delay

    1. They are staying on topic and are clearly not trolling.
    2. Zos is not going to answer the question because the answer is so obvious.
    3. By creating this thread in the forums you did specifically ask the forum this question.
    4. You are very wrong about the twitch rules concerning harassment. Finding out where a player is via their stream and killing their character does not resemble harassment.

No reasonable mind would think this is harassment. If you are choosing to tell everyone where you are in Cyrodiil that is a choice you have made. Blaming others for your choice seems rather absurd.

just as a side note your "disclaimer/privacy notification" is invalid as your stream is public domain once you stream you have no rights to privacy or claim against anybody using that stream. just a friendly FYI :)

Does it count as harassment if i kill one 30cp player in cyrodiil over and over and over while hes trying to spawn? Guess not

Apparently criticism is off topic, that's new. Maybe using the report function to threaten other players is against the TOS as well? But sure, report me for trolling if it makes you feel better.

Word of caution. No answer will satisfy him, and he's going to make nonsensical threats (mainly because he can't insult your mother on the forums). Just ignore him, and he'll go away. Eventually. Maybe.
Also he's probably going to have an aneuryism trying to respond to this.
