So let's be realistic. Barring being a place to drop those storage chests, housing is 99.7% about bragging rights and flaunting all the pretty things you have collected/crafted/bought/found/etc. And that's 100% okay. But another thing people like to show off are their outfits and motifs, as well as the characters themselves.

So basically... how cool would it be to have our characters be "placeable" in homes? ZOS has proven that 'placeable people' can be done, what with Pirharri, Nuzhimeh, & Tythis Andromo (or any of the "Assistants") existing. And while I can think of 1001 things that could be even cooler in that regard, I'd even take something basic.

Poses: characters could maintain idle poses from whatever personality you have assigned them (if applicable). Alternately, they could be assigned when they are "placed".
--Limits: obviously you'd be limited to whatever personalities you have earned or purchased.

Outfits: Similar to poses, this could just be taken from whatever outfit/costume you've currently assigned the character(s) in question, or you could assign them an outfit or costume when they were "placed".
--Limits: also fairly obvious, but you'd be limited to whatever costumes and outfit styles/slots you owned. Also a given.

General/Overall Limits: Obviously different-sized houses would limit how many characters could be placed. As fun as it might be to cram 17 alts into an inn room, it's easy to understand why that would need to be limited. lol.

Interactability: while it'd be cool to have them say generic NPC dialogue like "hail" or "yes?" or whatever, that'd just be a neat little bonus rather than something to be expected. Again, much like housing, having characters as "furnishings" would be mostly just to show them off, and would save many of us a dozen or more loading screens if we're showing off.

"But Zulera!" I can hear someone say, "why do you need to show off?"
because why not? The only gameplay use housing has is for those storage chests. The rest is to flaunt your goods and achievements. Why not be able to flaunt a few of your characters that you've no doubt poured all kinds of time and energy into perfecting their look, the same way you flaunt the houses you've put hours into furnishing and designing? It'd definitely also augment the roleplaying community (for better or for worse), so that's a bonus as well. Surely I can't be the only one who's ever thought of this.
...and I suppose regarding what happens if a character is a "furnishing" and you log in with that character... maybe it's just a paradox like all the Eazbis/Nuzhimehs/etc that are anywhere at any given time. I figure that's a minor issue at best.

TL;DR—let us have our alts as special furnishings, please?
Shortly after the formation of the Ebonheart Pact, a Nord woman was given a tour of the Tribunal Temple. When later asked about the experience, she seemed upset. Suffice to say, the Dunmer were not pleased to hear this, and thus they inquired further.
"Well," the Nord frowned, "the priests were very angry and unwelcoming. They kept shouting things at me like "you can't drink that mead in here!" and "somebody stop her, she's running naked!" and "we can't catch her; she's covered in grease!""

While I don't have many alts, I do agree in having said characters as special furnishings. You can make any empty house you have more lively, as well as make use of those giant halls that feel hollow without guests.

Plus, it feels weird entering a home you set for one of your alts as someone else. Rather rude, innit? Even if it's yourself invading your own privacy.

Imagine what the game would have to do to make it possible. It'd have to take the time loading the extra character itself, (which could take a bit of time in itself), its appearance/personality, probably its inventory internally, and who knows what else.

Been a while since I last saw this suggested.

It's one of those things that pops up every few months since it is sucha a good idea.

The only thing your list missed, from the previous iterations of this idea, is to have access to the alts inventory. Would make inventory management lot less of a hassle.

As an extra, I just thought, that maybe they could add some class specific idles to the game. They would really add life to characters in general, and would work doubly well if you could place them in houses. Extra props if you could differentiate between stamina and magicka dps and tank and healer types.

So far ZOS has not commented on it at all. I guess they never will. I guess they make most of their money from loot boxes, weird novelty mounts, and selling huge manors. That and the yearly tithe they get from chapters (i.e. lot of people buy them, play them for a month or two and then leave until next years chapters drops.) Everything else is just irrelevat and does not get much attention from the devs. That incldues housing and adding new features and functionality to it.

I doubt that implementing it would be all that hard, but I alos don't think the game has any mechanisms available at this point that would support it. I.e. they'd actually have to code some new functions, and they'd rather spend all that dev time on making overpriced re-skins of weird mounts to sell on the Clown Store.

Easiest way I could see this done, is by adding "mannequins" items to the game. You'd craft the or buy them and then go to a "mannequin dress up station", which would then clone your characters current attire, physical appearance, and personality settings. This way you would not have to worry about keeping dynamic links between the furnishing version of your character and the real deal. If the character on which it was based changes, then you'd have to update the clone or create a new one.

And personally I'd prefer it that way. I would "craft" versions of my characters in their civvies instead of their battlefield gear and drop them into my many houses. The one's tehy're supposed to live in, and I'd like to see them relax and unwind in their homes when I visit them.

And since all my characters have some ties to one antoher, "retainer, mentor, spouse, adopted daughter, cousins and so on an so on" it'd be really nice to be able to take some screenshots where they actually appear next to one another. -Edit- Oh and if I could create multiple versions of these mannequins... I'd also make versions of them in their sunday bests to drop as visitors in houses of other characters. And also forgot to mention that another fun functionality would be if these "clone" also served as target dummies, maybe for a hefty extra crown fee to incentivise ZOS into making these things. Would make the student/mentor relationship between some character that much cooler.- End of edit-

But all in all, I think ZOS sees this as something that requires too much work doesn't have enough crowns in it to bother with.

I'm still depressed that the only "characters" we have access to as placeables are target dummies (none of which are human, beastfolk or mer even!) and one weird creepy soul shriven guy. It's totally a missed opportunity on ZO$' part. If they gave us a selection of armored NPCs to place as guards, some servants doing the sweep animation and the like, they would sell like hotcakes. As for placing our own characters, that would be pretty amazing! Especially if we could give them a dialogue for people to read when they click on them. Make them their own "special collectible" and hell have us buy a slot for them up to the full number of characters you can have. ZO$ would make a killing. As money hungry as they are it always astonishes me when they miss completely obvious things like this.

Oh please make it happen. Add emotions loops to setup on those characters and we are ready to have one of the best additions to housing!

They won't let us even summon our pets in homes. Doubt this will happen, but it would be nice.

...pets as in non combat pets? Probably because ZoS turns those into placable furnishings instead of little followers when in a house
    Or
do you mean Combat pets? I just tested my sorc pets in my Grotto home and they showed up when summoned...

Back when I played EQ2 they had 'NPC's' you could buy for your home. You could have them napping on a bed or sofa or sitting /standing in your home. They came in different races and were dressed casually. I bought a few to place around my homes and it made them feel less empty.

I don't agree that it's about "bragging rights".

As I don't really feel there is anything to brag about.

To me, it's more about doing something, at least vaguely, artistic and making a cosy, in-game home to port in and out of and/or craft in.

I agree it would be nice to have our alts as characters in our homes, though.

    Wouldn't need its inventory.

You wouldn't be playing as this character, or even placing the original character - they would just be props.

Visual copies of your characters, which you could then dress in one of the outfits you already own, assign a personality you already own to and/or any idle animation they had made available for this purpose and you had bought.

As the OP says, this could be done either by logging into the char in question and assigning them with all that, before placing the copy in the home.

Or, it could be done by selecting the copy of the char, after it had been placed in the house and assigning these things there.

The latter would be more convenient, but the former would probably require a little less work for the devs.

I mean, obviously, it would be great if you could also switch to another character by selecting them in your home (rather than having to log out to do that), but that wouldn't be necessary and isn't, generally, the primary reason housing people ask for this.

Would make getting a group shot of all of my adventurers together much easier, at any rate

I do doubt they're going to add it, but it would really be a lovely feature.
