Some really baffling changes to Northern Storm.

So it's becoming increasingly obvious that the people making these changes have no clue about how players play and use skills. It's it was apparently with the initial cliff racer changes keeping you out of zaan range and dual wield range if you wanted the off balance and it's clear as day here on yet another warden skill. So on live Northern Storm passive increases max mag for slotting it and it's amazing. Especially for pve warden supports. The 9% max mag boosted the strength of heals for healers more than the additional healing done for slotting a Green Balance skill would. It also ensured that tanks had a little more resources to play with when in difficult encounters. It was never activated because obviously supports use warhorns. So imagine my surprise when I see that now in order to get the larger mag pool the Devs are saying that I would now have to activate it. Well I'll be honest that will never happen. Because again supports use warhorns. And DPS have much stronger damage ultis.

As far as I know PvP players use the other morph Permafrost. Feel free to correct me though. And the irritating this is that there actually is not a whole lot warden supports would be inclined to front bar if the change goes live. Again I honestly don't know why I need to be spelling these things out but c'est la vie. The 2% additional healing done from slotting trees (green balance ulti) is terrible outside of Lokkestiiz hardmode because healing done is weak and needs a rework. You could slot barrier if you're a scrub and can't heal and the it would increase mag regen from that support skill line passive. The thing with barrier is that honestly you don't need more regen given that healers no longer spam springs and orbs. So the mag drain is a lot less.

Furthermore the same passive that gives mag regen is inferior to the warden passive flourish. Flourish gives 12% mag and stam recovery back for slotting any random animal companion skill. Betty netch, deceptive predator and fetcher infection or even the bear ulti all give more mag recovery for slotting. So what are warden support supposed to frontbar? Meteor? Again I don't know why this should even be a thing that I have to come in and type up. A little care, consideration and common sense goes a long way. The Northern Storm morph was fine and it needed no change.

Permafrost was damage nerfed and now is utility ult and most pvp-ers will switch to the other morph which will give really nice damage boost.

I believe that northern storm was changed for PvE players who doesnt like that their resources are not the same on both bars, the other rmorph was changed because of PvP.

Summarize, another changes that nobody was asking for and which bring nothing to the table except annoyance to non meta players.

I might re-roll my fun non meta ice mage to something more generic as support healer or stamden with 2h & dawn/shalk/execute spam.

Anyway I knew it was not worth to upgrade winterborn to gold. Screw you and your changes.

I would imagine that Permafrost's snare will still be useful no?

they simply change pve stuff to fit pvp more...becaues the lead guy is a pvp guy with a pvp focus and pve is mostly and afterthought for him it seems...so go figure

if it continues like this i will most likely abandon the game and move on - im happy for all the pvp'ers but thats just not my cup of tea...and now that destiny 2 is free to play on steam...seems to draw a lot of players and good reviews - i might give that a try

It will be but, the other morph will be 50% more damage from the skill and 15% more magicka for 30 seconds. That will be around 4-5k magicka increase which will buff your healing, shielding and dps for all skills.

This Ulti is already a PvP Ulti.
The Northern Storm change makes it worse in PvP.

I've always used northern storm for PVP if you build right the damage boost was HIGH. Just will just be even higher.

Yeah, the changes to Northern Storm & Permafrost kinda suck if you're not a Magicka Warden: Stamina Warden got the short end of the deal, no more boosting Magicka & heals for healers in PvE,...

Bright side tho is that the Northern Storm change is much more potent: 15% more Magicka is nothing to sneeze at (especially on a Mag stack build) and even tho it has a duration, the downtime can easily be minimized thx to the Warden's ulti gen and with the right sets. Plus it also helps that it no longer needs to be double barred for the Magicka bonus.

The blizzard feels good now :p Better wear smth warm

The thing about magdens in PvE is that you basically need to double-bar the bear if you want to maximize your DPS. I'll use permafrost if I'm soloing the sewers or Skyreach since the fighters guild perks allow me to have it up pretty consistently. Otherwise it's the bear.

Maybe zos should compensate PvE with some offensive reworks to expansive frost cloak, winters revenge, and frozen retreat

Or just buff Winter's Revenge back into being actually worth barring. It's one of my favorite Warden skills and it makes me sad that I can't run around throwing ice down as often as I used to be.
