Anyone find it funny how the charity event requires players to own Elsweyr?

What a sick and disgusting cash grab.

"Let's go slay dragons everyone, for a good cause, while we make more and more money!"
"Oh dear we could easily donate thousands and thousands more without an event but we'd rather make money ourselves."I... I mean.. Those poor pets!"
Sorry ZOS but the approach you chose actually is disgusting. A nice fun idea but the execution of it is just plain sad.

You could've made it a dolmen for 1 cent. But no. -.- let's abuse naive minds instead and make them think we're just generous.

OF COURSE I COULD BE HORRIBLY WRONG I just see so many other options. So please don't stone me to death.

It's just an exaggerated example. I happen to own Elsweyr as well. It's just that this idea is based on empowering people's need to want to own the expansion and I'm really not okay with that.

It's not about being or not being forced. That's their excuse. It's the fact that they use this to blatantly get more people to buy their ***. It's not even about myself and you failed to observe the point as well.

I'm a subscriber and have been one for years and I happen to own the expansion and spend over 50k crowns monthly. It's not that, it's the fact that they're using this event to get people to give them money. Why the hell can't anybody see that :disappointed:

Like 4 extra people MIGHT buy Elsweyr for the event. This isn’t promo for the game.

I can see your point a little maybe but I think it's a stretch really. You, or anyone else don't have to get the expansion and you can donate to any charity anytime with or without an expansion. Nothing is forced and I don't feel like it's deliberately excluding people because it's an event celebrating Elsweyr.

They even made Elsweyr half off. If they was trying to profit a lot from the event, they would have left it at the standard price.

Right, that's why sales on some sites went up.

I only hope the two of you are right, however I'm still afraid it's not. I don't honestly know what to believe anymore, why dragons. Why is it excluding people from participating. Elsweyr could've been celebrated in a different way. Why does it have to be a way that can hype people up enough to buy something in order for them to participate. You know what I mean?

Lots and lots of people want to join into a community effort.

The community-wide event last year required summerset as well, can't blame them for trying to milk their year-long story BS.

Not everyone owns Elsweyr but that is no reason to preclude having an event there. Just like not everyone PvPs but that is no reason to preclude having an event in Cyrodiil. Just like not everyone has the supporting DLCs or tastes for the TG/DB event but that is no reason to preclude having a TG/DB event. There are so many events that missing a few because you don't have the supporting DLC/Chapter or simply don't care for the content is pretty insignificant.

As far as the financial end, ZOS is not a charity and must make a profit to keep providing this good game for us. I've no problem if their marketing for optional events encourages folks to buy content. Why make new content if no one buys it?

If you say so, I'm just refusing to believe a multimillion dollar company wants to just be nice without gaining something from it. Tell me to remove my tin foil hat, Idc. It just doesn't feel right.

W T F dude? take all your agrees back, take my entire *** forum account for all I care.

All I wanted was to highlight this and share my feelings about the event. I couldn't care less about some absolutely irrelevant online ratings that have literally 0 effect on my life.

Its nice they wanna help animals, I am actually grateful and respectful for that part you know? Just not the way they've executed the idea.

And money is being donated to charity... Which means the proceeds of those sales are at least in part going to charity.

Whats the charity thing? Its pretty common practice for companies to share profit on one particular item in their catalogue and send some of that money to charity rather than from their own pockets from the entire range.

Like when a company releases a “limited edition” item with a charity logo on it and x% of profits on that product alone go towards the cause.

I see your point, but for people who dont own it and were considering it, then good, ZoS gets some monies and so do some charities.

It makes perfect sense the way it is.
You have plenty of stuff in shops related to charities nowadays, and I think it's a clever way to collect funds.
If you have, let's say, coffee brand A in the shop and coffee brand B in the same shop, but brand B says "buy me and we will transfer amount X to charity Y", you may choose brand A or B depending on your feeling regarding charity Y, but if you choose brand B, then your purchase benefits BOTH the coffe company AND charity Y, and I don't see anything really wrong with that. The commercial incentive creates the non-commercial income. That's all there's to it.

Besides, in the case of this ESO event, we don't even have to pay anything, it's ZOS's pocket giiving to charities. For us it's not an incentive to spend, but an incentive to play.
