Yeah, this is incredibly anti-consumer and I hope ZOS will reconsider this policy. There seems no good reason why you should not get your crowns back for an unclaimed gift. As you say, if you have a crown store item left floating around that is either something you don’t want or a duplicate of something you already have, it only encourages selling it for gold.
As well as screwing over individuals, it also gives no safeguards to guild leaders who may wish to frequently give out potentially expensive items (houses, etc.) as prizes. One of the main reasons gifting has been asked for, in the first place.
It even hurts ZOS themselves. With no safeguards in place, people are going to be less likely to use the system, which means less profit for ZOS.
But why? Why can't we use it ourselves??Double click the unclaimed gift and put a different @name to send it off to another player. Can't use it yourself without customer svc help I think.

Which doesn't make any sense, since ZOS would make more money with a system where people could just buy a bunch of gifts for random people without worrying that their money will be wasted. People would use the gifting system a whole lot more if they knew their money wouldn't be in the toilet if the person already had the item, or didn't pick up the item in time.As has been said, the whole idea of the gifting system is to give something to someone that is known to want it. Sending gifts speculatively was never part of the players' request for the system nor is it how ZOS intend it to be used.

This is crazy.
Put in a ticket.
This doesn’t make logical sense.

I’d put in a ticket, but honestly I doubt it would make any difference I’ve never had a response to a ticket raised. Can’t even seem to get a response on here from @ZOS_GinaBruno or @ZOS_JessicaFolsom so I guess I’ve just wasted 4000 crowns on nothing. Ridiculous system. There was zero warning god this being the outcome of the gift went unclaimed. There should at least be some warning of that.

I’ve just had a 4000 crown gift go unclaimed. Now it’s just sitting there... what kind of logic is that? So I cannot get a refund or use the gift myself, nor can I seem to interact with it at all so be able to resend it.
@ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom is this really the intended gifting system? Not very impressive.
