Gifting system: unclaimed gifts can't be refunded!?! (Or even used by the giver!)

I have been wanting a gifting system for a long time in the game. But this part of the description really baffles me:

"The gift recipient must accept the gift within 14 days to receive the item, but if they decline or fail to accept the item in time, it is simply returned to its original purchaser. Note that the purchaser in this case is unable to make use of any returned gifts themselves, but can resend it to the original or a different recipient."

What the heck!? Why not just give us our crowns back if someone doesn't want a gift? It's extremely unlikely that I would have two different friends who would both want the same item! Besides, I would give a gift for an occasion like a birthday or anniversary, so it wouldn't be relevant to someone else. If this is the way it works, I will just continue to buy gifts through customer service where either my request will go through or it won't, but I won't be out the crowns *either way*!!

ZOS, please consider changing this before it goes live. A lot of people are worried about the system being used as way to convert crowns to gold, but I feel like this setup practically guarantees that that will happen.

The system is set up very nicely for people to give gifts they know the recipient wants.

Its not set up well for "surprise!" gifts and risk-free trades.

Yeah, this is incredibly anti-consumer and I hope ZOS will reconsider this policy. There seems no good reason why you should not get your crowns back for an unclaimed gift. As you say, if you have a crown store item left floating around that is either something you don’t want or a duplicate of something you already have, it only encourages selling it for gold.

As well as screwing over individuals, it also gives no safeguards to guild leaders who may wish to frequently give out potentially expensive items (houses, etc.) as prizes. One of the main reasons gifting has been asked for, in the first place.

It even hurts ZOS themselves. With no safeguards in place, people are going to be less likely to use the system, which means less profit for ZOS.

I sent a guildy the Orsinium DLC during the sale, which they didnt claim in time. I cant seem to interact with it to resend to someone else.

    You can't gift houses.

Good to know. I will not be sending any gifts with this system in that case.

Double click the unclaimed gift and put a different @name to send it off to another player. Can't use it yourself without customer svc help I think.

if I could make another character, their name would be Cries-For-Character-Slots. AKA, I need more.

    This is crazy.

    Put in a ticket.

    This doesn’t make logical sense.

Bump. Nearly a year later and there is still no way to reclaim the crowns or regift the an unclaimed gift?

I’ve just had a 4000 crown gift go unclaimed. Now it’s just sitting there... what kind of logic is that? So I cannot get a refund or use the gift myself, nor can I seem to interact with it at all so be able to resend it.

@ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom is this really the intended gifting system? Not very impressive.

As has been said, the whole idea of the gifting system is to give something to someone that is known to want it. Sending gifts speculatively was never part of the players' request for the system nor is it how ZOS intend it to be used.

Which doesn't make any sense, since ZOS would make more money with a system where people could just buy a bunch of gifts for random people without worrying that their money will be wasted. People would use the gifting system a whole lot more if they knew their money wouldn't be in the toilet if the person already had the item, or didn't pick up the item in time.

    This.

I’d put in a ticket, but honestly I doubt it would make any difference I’ve never had a response to a ticket raised. Can’t even seem to get a response on here from @ZOS_GinaBruno or @ZOS_JessicaFolsom so I guess I’ve just wasted 4000 crowns on nothing. Ridiculous system. There was zero warning god this being the outcome of the gift went unclaimed. There should at least be some warning of that.

Even if you doubt it, put in a ticket anyway. And respond to the automated response. Couldn’t hurt your chances.

I got burned on this once. Mine was only like 500 crowns so no big deal, but my mouth dropped open when I realized the crowns would never be refunded into my own account. It's such a no brainer. Who ever heard of such a thing?

Now if anyone wants to test the gifting system, I will be happy to assist. Just send me stuff. I'll accept it. It would be a great way to show the "system" that you can't be beaten. <snicker>

Yeah this gifting system is great but the backlash you get if someone doesn't get it just doesn't make sense, would have thought it would just return the crowns to your account instead

    Greetings ESO Friends & ZOS,

It is the summer of 2021 and I am having this similar unclaimed gifts problem, (as you Anony_Mouse and others here), that I personally never had before this incident after all the giving & receiving gifts I have done with a guildmate player very close to me and always happiness before.

I just put in another support ticket for it because the auto-reply did not seem to understand my issue and gave me the answer to a totally different question than the one I asked, so I re-explained it and I hope it can be resolved. I see the two expensive items sitting in my unclaimed gift inventory and I can not interact with them to resend, save or even use myself instead. These were July 10th Birthday gifts that I bought ingame with my own crowns that I knew this player really wanted, (not just random gifts) , but sadly something in RL came up causing them to be offline and unable to pick up their Birthday Gifts in time. Now those gifts are just stuck in my unclaimed gifts and by now I'm so frustrated and disappointed I could cry. :'(

I Luv ESO, but we could have some very simple options for unclaimed gifts that we paid hard-earned money for:

1.) Resend to the same player later, if they are still alive during this pandemic.
    2.) Retrieve for ourself
    3.) Resend to another player
4.) Have our crowns refunded to our ESO account (ZOS, we are only going to spend the crowns with you in ESO anyway!)

And for the commenters saying it's our own tough luck if we lost money and joy due to unclaimed gifts with excuses like assuming we must just be sending random or surprise gifts in ways that are not intended, all I have to say is NO! -- That is NO excuse not to have a solution even if it were the case, but don't assume it is the case just so you can downplay our concerns over the unclaimed gifts issue having no solution yet! That just adds insult to injury. That is not how to treat people in this situation and it is very unfair.

For those of you with this unclaimed gift issue, you have my empathy and I hope ZOS is able and willing to help fix this.
ZOS, thank you very much if you do fix it!
