Treasure Maps need some attention

I like the concept of treasure maps. But they are poorly implemented. Without the assistance of addons or websites they are a nightmare to complete. Expecting players to explore an entire zone looking for a single corner of the landscape that is only recognizable from a certain point of view is just ridiculous.

At least attach some kind of hint to them that gives players a general idea of where on the map the treasure is located (similar to surveys). Because no part of the gameplay should require that a player download addons or have to look them up online to reasonably complete.

even having addons, there is no reason to run them (treasure maps) unless they are located in zone, dropping top sets, like Deshaan, Wrothgar, Rivenspire, maybe Malabal Tor, etc....

I sell mine. If they had better rewards, I could reconcile trudging around.

This is my main concern with treasure maps. Even in those top zones, you could argue it's just not worth the time to run over to the map location and dig up the chest. You could know exactly where the chest is and still be earning less gold on that chest than if you just run in a random direction, kill some mobs and loot some nodes. It's basically causing a loss in gold/minute.

The argument could be made that it adds immersion and an element of exploration which is fine, but players looking for that aspect probably don't care about the addons and actually enjoy the hunt.

What I'm saying is, if your main issue is that you can't hunt the maps efficiently without an addon or outside source, I'd counter with the fact that it's not efficient anyway even if you do that.

So assume I am talking about treasure maps in your preferred zones then, or improve the rewards generally (which I would also support). Either way - they need to be made more reasonable to complete manually regardless.

Treasure Maps are designed to encourage you to explore the nooks and crannies of the zone. Telling you where to go to get the chest just encourages you to travel the zone. You can do that anytime.

Are they a pain to do? Yes. But I don't think giving you the location like Surveys do is the right answer.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I agree the rewards should be better, but back when I did them I found them perfectly doable without help. Usually they seemed impossible at first, but then you could narrow it down to a few areas to check and often instinct just led you to the right place. Sounds like BS, but I mean it when I say it just somehow happened faster than expected every single time. I chalked it up to good design.

I am one usually of those players and enjoy the "element of exploration". But the hunt in this case is simply too laborious to enjoy. You could literally spend all day looking for where a single often messy sketch of the landscape matches up perfectly. I enjoy hunting down surveys on may own but Treasure Maps are just too much and crosses the line.

So give a wider area to search than surveys. That I could live with. Or add some directions like in Jewelry surveys. But currently they are way too cryptic - especially considering the rewards you receive when compared to the ridiculous amount of time it would take to find them on your own.

Well I won't accuse you of BS. I'll take you at your word. But I will say your experiences have not been my own. Not even remotely.

I"m fixing to start doing that as well. Which is a shame - because as I stated I like the concept of going on a treasure hunt. But they are so poorly implemented I would have to resort to addons or websites to complete them in a reasonable amount of time and that ruins all the fun of it and just makes it a clinical exercise to obtain what are often mediocre rewards. And I have better ways to spend my time on the game than that.

This. I don't need training gear, garbage sets, or regular ole weapons. It doesn't have to be crown store crates or monster gear. I'd be happy with purple level crafting recipes or even a bunch of gold. But I'm not going to run around looking for a chest full of Order or Diagna shoulders. I

Last time I did a Treasure Map run to Cyrodiil, #16 & 17 did not produce a node you could interact with, even though the dirt mound was clearly visible. I now have multiple of each of those.

This is how I’d do it:

Treasure chests give gold based off of your current level along with a very small chance of legendary equipment from that region.

Wet Gunny Sacks from fishing should have a chance to contain recipes, transmutation crystals and rare crafting materials.

Something like this yes. Make them way more rare, but bump the rewards up significantly. It should be a exciting rare thing to get in your inventory, not a waste of space.
