So why the change to mount stam?

So I still don't really understand why they changed how your mount works when you run out of stamina. Wasn't it penalty enough that if you were out of mount stam and got hit that you took a nasty stun? Was it really an OP issue? People taking advantage of it somehow? Is it just changing something for the sake of change?

The worst part about starting a new character isn't the grind, it's the slow ass mount speed. The one bright spot was that you could at least stay full speed unless you got hit, ran into an object, fell off a ledge, or your thumb got tired and had a spasm.

The only thing I can think of why they changed it is that not enough people were spending gems on buying riding stam upgrades. Do they really need to sell more crown crates so people have to get gems to buy stam upgrades for their mount?

I guess just say hell with mount and make any new toon a sorc and streak places, a warden and slot the chain heal and pull your self along in groups, or a medium armor orc so you can speed run your way places. I think it really was an un-needed change that just makes it less fun. I hope it's not as bad as it sounds. I really dread making a new toon just because of slow mount. As we have no PTS for PS4, I'll just have to wait and see what it's like.

Your surmising only shows that you have not read the patch notes. Get informed. Read it.

To help you find it I will link it below.

Incremental PTS update that has other changes but no further changes to mounts.

Edit: Ooops, my bad. Zos has a brief explanation on the matter at the start of the section they note the changes to sprinting.

They did this accidentally with the last patch didn't they? People complained, and rightly so, it quickly became very annoying. So now they are going to implement something they know people don't want on purpose?

    Why?

The relevant portion of the Patch Notes:

"In our continuing efforts to improve server performance, we have refactored how Sprint functions on the backend and have made some changes to the design.
On-foot sprint will largely function the same as it has in the past, though we’ve decreased the Stamina cost of sprinting which will result in being able to sprint longer. You’ll also notice the Stamina drain is more fluid in the UI.
Like on-foot sprint, mounts will now stop sprinting when their Stamina is fully drained. However, we’ve decreased the Stamina cost of mounted sprint and greatly increased both base Stamina and base Recovery for mounts.
We will be closing monitoring how these changes affect your ability to traverse Tamriel and are open to feedback based on your experiences."

It might well do something for performance.

On the other hand, I don't expect it to do much of anything to help with extreme lag or crashing during large battles in Cyrodiil, which is where I see the biggest performance impacts. But who knows? Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I would expect some will say it did nothing because Cyrodiil is not perfect. However, for real improvement it will take a lot of different changes as there is not any single or even small group of issues causing the burden on the server.

So more calculations on how much stamina we have and how fast it regens and what speed we are supposed to be running at will help server performance compared to doing less calculations where we just get to stay at one speed?

    The logic escapes me here.

And, before you say less sprinting is what is helping, they did things to extend the Sprinting to an extent.

So, still, the logic is missing.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

So Sprinting is apparently part of the lag/performance issues in cyrodiil? Hmmm, I find that hard to believe as I don't think i have ever blue screened while on my mount in small groups (I know its not a single group issue but everyome on the server). Yes when near a keep with large groups. In that case I don't think it will help as people will still be recently mounted with stam and sprint away in a zerg. The server still has to do all the same calculations if not more now with this change.

Damn this is gonna suck on new toons.

They fixed a bug with mounts that has been around for 5+ years. I hope LA weaving follows.
