Weakness to Elements -> Elemental Drain

tjvannevel_ESO
I'm looking for clarity on the morphed skill Elemental Drain. There is a lot of conflicting info out on the web surrounding this skill

1. Does the restore Magicka trigger every time damage is dealt or just the first attack after elemental drain is cast?
2. If it triggers every time elemental damage is dealt does a skill like Force Shock (Deals X magic damage and applies all three elemental status effects) trigger the restore effect 3x per cast?
3. Is it true you gain 100 magicka back each cast, effectively spamming Force Shock for free due to the Magicka restoration

I'm sure you can understand I don't want to add a skill point, much less two, to a skill before knowing how it actually works.
THANKS!

    1. It triggers on all instances of damage, including DoT ticks.

    2. Unsure. I don't think so.

    3. No. Don't rely on ESOHead for numbers. The actual value (varies with level and such of course) is closer to 10 - 20.

Force Shock does active the magicka return on all three hits of damage, but the cost of it is more than you get back and Force Shock is just a terrible skill to begin with.

You can easily restore your magicka with Elemental Drain plus lighting staff heavy attack. It's a channel, so it hits a few times making it restore a ton of magicka fast.

It's awesome on a Templar, I can throw out reflective lights for added DPS/AoE DPS, able to heal myself easy and throw out CCs whenever I need too all while keeping my magicka above 70%.

There needs to be a stamina return as amazing as that.

I think Elemental Drain returns 1% magicka per hit, meaning it'll return 3% per cast of Crushing Shock, so about 60 magicka if you have 2000 max magicka. If you cast Siphon Spirit on top, on a champion or world boss for example, you'll get 120 magicka per cast. My Crushing Shock costs around 160 magicka, so you're 40 magicka down. If you cast a dot on top, such as Elemental Ring, which procs Drain each time it ticks, you're even closer to zero magicka cost.

I don't think Crushing Shock is too bad, since it is instant with a 28m range, with lots of added benefits. Base damage is only 21, but if you look at other instant damage skills, they're mostly relying on weapon crit, such as Flame Whip, so Crushing Shock will have a lot more crit applied to it.

So would DK's get even better value out of this with molten weapons? That on a lightning staff would be giving a channel with 2 elemental damage effects each tick?

Crushing Shock is an awesome skill. I even use it as Nightblade and Funnel Health is only cast for the Hot, if needed.

At VR4 my Crushing Shock hits for 3x96 DMG, which is around 300 DMG, on top of that is always ticking Crippling Grasp Dot for another ~130 DMG.

Short duration fights on Single Target I come up to 600-700 DPS at VR4 and with only 18% Crit Chance.
