Are Bot Reports Worthwhile?

Do we have any official confirmation whether reporting bots has any value whatsoever? I get the confirmation email, but does it really eliminate any of the harvesting bots?

    We don't know.

That said, it seems I've gotten more success reporting the accounts directly to Microsoft instead of bothering with Zenimax. I've actually gotten responses that they've taken action on some of the information I've provided.

On PC, I remember several of us reporting on a bot in Wrothgar for over a year before they disappeared. We’d stand in front of the bot, send whispers, jump up and down, no reaction. They were there 24/7.

You can't send video in ticket, I spesifically said hey i recorded these players botting where can I send the video and I didn't get an answer I'm pretty sure It's ignoring
Also if they deal with a situation like this they let you know the problem is solved they dont tell you whether player is banned or not

Same. ZOS doesn't seem to care about bots. PS4 ESO is especially damaged by them. There's a whole system going on there, and it's ruining trading in the game and some other things as well. I wish we could stop the bots. I really do. It angers me that even reporting doesn't help, and I don't have the power to stop the bots since I'm just one lowly simple player.

When you write back to them after the confirmation ticket, usually they do.

We need game masters or dedicated persons to take care of the bots on a very regular basis.

This is true, however we do know Zos is slow to react to our reports. I have seen the same bots in the same area well after sending Zos a report, including video showing all their @names and they were still there almost a week later. Even well after that bots were training the same area which I found odd since a truly active response would keep checking the same areas for a while.

People reported bots in Auridon near Merano's tower killing bears and wolves, they disappeared shortly after. I recently reported about 20 synchronized naked Nord sorcs killing mubcrabs near the docks of Alik'ir on Xbox EU. I went back a few days later and they were gone. Now I did report them to MS too due to the obvious multi-boxing, that might have helped. It's also possible they just moved to a different location and are operating elsewhere.

The biggest problem I see on Xbox would be the scripted bots with the node path automation you see in starter areas. They run a predetermined loop from one ore/jewelry node after another. While a person can tell they are bots, especially if something puts the bot off the path and they start bumping into cliffs, bridges, etc. it's hard to prove they are really bots to support. Sure the names and gamertags are random, they have 0-5 achievement points, they have no friends, followers, or play other games but it could just be a "family" account used just for harvesting. But when you look closely at the path they take, it isn't driven by a human, the path is too exact and repeatable.

I have seen bot groups gone, but that doesn't always mean they were banned, only that they are not in that location.

This is why I would appreciate some official messaging on this, though I doubt I will get that. It does seem like the answer is "we don't care" if they can't openly state otherwise.

I won't waste my time until I get a feeling otherwise.

These names are clearly not legit. Who would intentionally name a character "xhggutkssj" for example? (Not that exact name since I just made it up, but the point remains.

We do have cheaper mats because of bots. But that doesn't mean it's healthy for the game.

Legitimate farmers have pretty much been killed off by bots. Farming used to be a reliable way of making gold. Now the only way to make gold is to flip (and you're flipping bot wares 90% of the time since they will sell you stacks of mats for 25-30% below market value without haggling; they just want to clear inventory asap).

    No, it doesn't help

ZOS can use bot accounts to fluff up the perceived game population, so of course they're not in a rush to get rid of them

You can report them if you like. Does it help? Well that's a matter of faith, since in the end we'll never know.

i don't think bots are the reason of cheap mats. Bots in ESO exists since ages, and there are still no cheap mats.
