Cross progression or account login from different platforms.[Detailed question below]

I know that ZOS has had no plans publicly thus far to allow for a person to have a central account and the ability to login to their account on any platform they choose.

But...

Given that the end is near for this current generation of consoles it brings up some issues that I had never previously anticipated(The first being how much I would love and get into this game). As I near the end of my consoles lives I have realized what a potential time and money sink this all is for it to be flushed down the toilet because a consoles lifespan has been reached. I have heard rumors that for people transitioning to the next gen consoles, this will not be an issue. People will have their data migrated over in some way. Perhaps with a game update and empty character tables like they did at this console gen's launch. So, while that's great for people transitioning to the same next gen platform...

What about those who no longer want to support their current platform? In my case I have the game on PC, Xbox and PS4. But my greatest character progression is on the PS4 and I will no longer be buying consoles in the future. So will this all be lost to me?

Starting over is out of the question for many of us who have put hundreds of hours into single achievements(fishing, mastercrafter, etc.) not to mention total game time played. Coupled with the 500(ish) dollar price tag on the new consoles... It's much too steep to pay just to continue play one game(That I DEARLY love... but no). Buying the base game again, losing crowns from one platform to the next; These are acceptable costs and expected. To be locked into one platform BY the platform maker is also to be expected. But to be locked into a platform by a game that is on multiple platforms is... well it's sort of outdated and not great business.

Take a look at Bungie who is making Destiny 2 available on multiple platforms(4 that I know of for certain) with the ability to log in on any supported platform with the same account. You have to repurchase the game expansions and season passes(although base game will be free starting Oct 1st), you lose in-game currency purchased with real money, you can't take your guilds with you but you get to keep your character progression. In effect redeeming our most valuable resource. Our Time. Is this just not possible for this game. Still?

If anyone from ZOS or Bethesda can or has answered this, please leave me a comment or a link. Thank you for your time.

This One is not from Zos though is pretty sure next gens will allow you to play current gen games on it.

That's what my understanding was to we're just going to be able to cross right over

I have heard this too. That from one generation of console to the next will be no problem. What about those people(like me) who will be switching platforms? It's something I haven't seen discussed in light of the coming console generation change. It's a game outliving it's current platform and something relatively new as far as I know. But what I don't know could(and does) fill libraries.

To clarify, I will not be buying another console and I am wondering if I am screwed.

This One doubts Cross Platform Play is possible due to the closed nature of the Mega-Servers.

Yes unfortunately I believe you are under guide lines if not wanting to buy the same type of console that you're currently on though it's the next generation of then you will lose all progress within the game

Cross platform seems unlikely, given Microsoft and Sony's positions, and the way the game is designed. However, I kinda suspect that the PS5 and XBox 4 will both be inheriting their ESO servers from the PS4 and XB1 releases.
