Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

Is this real? An entire zone, just for questing?

Why would you want a game that is identical to another? I’m glad they don’t run this game like WoW. And considering they haven’t released all the details of what’s coming in Q4 I think some of y’all are jumping to some conclusions a bit too soon.

I will agree there should be some new PvP content, and I say this as a non-PvP player.

But what more do you want? You've gotten four brand new dungeons and a trial this year- that's a ton of new content. Not everything is about you. There are players that want new content that don't like dungeons. Guess what? Over half the content this year doesn't cater to them, and that's okay. ZoS is allowed to cater to multiple types of players.

Also, don't attack Gina, or even individual people. Just don't.

There is plenty of old raid content in ESO. Go do some of that.

Yes we did. And they aren’t doing that. They’re releasing a giant zone full of quests.

However you cannot see that releasing a zone of quests and releasing no new content and focusing on fixes are not one and the same, absolutely baffles me.

Go play Skyrim if you want to quest.

In addition to the new DLC game pack, we are also launching a massive base-game patch, free to all players, that features the first wave of the previously announced performance improvements. This first batch of changes includes a memory management overhaul, the first phase of combat ability performance improvements, and a complete redesign of the Looking for Group system.

These changes will reduce the amount of crashes/dashboarding, improve combat responsiveness, and improve the reliability and speed of the Group Finder. We know that the ESO community has long requested a performance update, so we are thrilled to launch the first part of what will be a massive, year-long series of improvements with Update 24!

Looks like an improvement (assuming it works) and we asked for it. I don't see the issue. On top of that they even communicated.

    No, I'll quest here, thanks.

Funny how he's not responding to this; the "focusing on fixes" that he says isn't a part of this update ("they aren't doing that.").
But, facts are hard for some people to grasp, I guess.

They have enough staff to do both.

If you want PVP only, play OverWatch or Fortenite

They released 1 trial this year and 4 end game dungeons. If that is not enough for you go play WoW
If they had enough staff to do both I’d be able to actually see adds spawn in trials, cyrodiil wouldn’t lag, my client wouldn’t crash, and a host of other things that need not be named.

    Try again bud.

If you want to quest go play Skyrim, or Oblivion, heck one of the many single player RPG games out there. This is an MMO and should be treated as such.

Seriously what planet are you from? What tortured and inane logic are you employing to lead you to believe that questing is not a long-established and deeply ingrained part of the MMORPG genre? Instead of raving like a lunatic, maybe you should take 30 minutes to actually research the various MMOs that have been on the market in the past and recognize that questing is a core component of literally every single one of them.

I honestly can't tell if you're just trolling poorly, or genuinely unhinged - but either way this thread is utterly pointless dribble. If you have a problem with the game - stop playing it. I can tell from the limited example of your behavior on display here that it wouldn't be any loss on anyone's else's part if you were to take your aimless hostility and whining elsewhere.

It's not the fact that it involves quests that's the problem. It's that overland ESO content is completely braindead and devoid of any interesting gameplay for able-brained players. It might as well be a book or a movie because all players do is follow the waypoint arrows to the next story segment. It's reprehensibly boring.

This is not an exaggeration: shopping for groceries provides better gameplay and a greater challenge than overland ESO content.

Questing is more about the story, writing, voice acting and character design than it is about the gameplay challenge. These are the primary drivers - along with world design - that allow players to immerse themselves in the game. The Elder Scrolls IP would not have existed for roughly two decades without these elements.

This is why we need Veteran Zones for high level players to quest in. New scenery, stories, and NPCs are nice and all. But a bit more challenge to make the content more interesting to explore would be welcomed. At least by me.

We just got a trial and 2 new dungeons in the last DLC for us “endgamers”. There are a ton of players though who play this game for the story and the lore. Not thrilled about this DLC? Don’t buy it. You know there will be more end game content coming soon enough.
    kathandira wrote: »

100% agree with this statement. ESO is great because of the variety in content that is offered and the variety in DLCs and what they bring to the various gameplay areas. Perhaps folks need to explore other aspects of the game for a bit and learn there is more to this game than just PvP or just endgame.

Questing and exploring is one my my favorite things to do on ESO. I'm not an "endgamer". But the combat has become too easy - even for casual players like me. When you can just "face roll" yourself through all the mobs (which is what the poster I responded to said - and he/she is absolutely correct about that) it actually cheapens the content and makes it less enjoyable.

Questing and exploring is a lot more fun when the landscape poses enough challenge to where it's at least interesting to fight in. So by allowing for veteran zones it would only make this kind of content more popular (not less) and appeal to more high level players like myself. Because a lot of casual players like a bit of challenge too. It's always been a false talking point that only "endgamers" running dungeons and trials like challenge and everyone else just wants everything brain dead easy and are content to read stories and look at scenery. That's not the case. There are a lot of players in that middle ground trust me.

Super competitive pvp "endgame" uber leet bis min/max gottagetthelast .000001% dps community, OR
the people who play the game for enjoyment, do pve, and want to do the story quests part.

The people who play the game for enjoyment instead of ultracompetitivegottawin do mostly seem to be kind, patient, and welcoming. The other type, not so much. Being kind and welcoming takes time away from the ganking, tbagging and bragging, you see.

Now that the "useless/pointless" story parts are out, I'll finally get started on the new zone and content. I've been looking forward to it.

Like ESO, I am sure that a lot of people in WoW do not really play the "end game content", and so, even if they are looking at the story with enthusiasm, they won't experience it. Some players won't even find out what the story is. There are WoW players who played for years and could not tell you the story of Cataclysm, or who the Lich King is, why he is such a big deal, and why he won't let them fly in Northrend.

Games don't have to put the important parts of story in "end game content" that only a fraction of the players will ever see.

I am looking at the conclusion of this year's storyline with enthusiasm. Bring on the quests!

I'm confused, how is this a surprise to anyone? ZOS have had the same release schedule since 2016. They always do a dungeon DLC, a chapter, another dungeon DLC, a zone DLC and then back to the start.

I can only assume the OP and other people expressing surprise to this topic are not only brand new to ESO but haven't yet looked into the DLC already released. In which case welcome to the game, and yes this is normal, there are several quest zones already released, alongside the dungeon DLC which you already seem to be familiar with.

And for those of you who are surprised that quests are an important part of an MMORPG welcome not only to the game but to the genre. Unlike some games the story, setting and lore is an important part of an RPG and often what attracts players to one game over another and inspires them to keep playing and to experiment with different characters. Unlike some ESO doesn't really have branching quests where your choices affect what comes later (at most it swaps one NPC for another) but it has a massive and complex body of lore behind it, which makes new areas especially exciting for long-term players because it's likely to be a place we've heard about or maybe even explored before and now we get to see it during a new (and sometimes quite different) time period.

The OP has mentioned Skyrim a few times, but there's actually been 5 'main' Elder Scrolls games, and numerous spin-offs, but even so they haven't yet covered all of Tamriel, so you'll find quite a few long-term players who are excited for these new DLCs.

I realise it is a change of pace from the games some of you are familiar with, and I know games as a storytelling medium can seem strange, but I recommend giving it a go, especially since you're already playing an RPG (albeit unintentionally it seems). You might discover a whole new way to enjoy games. :)
