listen. if you are in a premade group, and you all agree to a run strategy? you can do it however you please - its a premade, there are no rules other then the ones your group decides on. OP is doing this to PUGS.

and honestly? not a fan of "tanks" like OP either. that whole sprinting through the dungeon thing means people don't get as much time to loot - if they get to loot at all, cause god help you you slow down even for a moment, he's going to lock you out of a boss, god help you if you may want to do the quest, etc
I've gotten a tank like OP and it was the WORST pug I've had and I'm counting pugs where we weren't even able to finish the dungeon in that estimation.
in wayrest 1 run up to slimecrawl or at least to the door and burn all the rats.
Note that this require an plan all agree on and that you know the group is capable of it.

To be honest I do not consider myself a "real tank". The point of this thread is to show that tanking in nonDLC dungeons, even vet - is very easy at least for people who run every single one of them more than 100 times.
My intention here is to ask people to stop raging when they see an "unconvential" build for tanking. I had even ppl ragequiting or throwing insults just because I wasn't using a shield.
Just wait untill the first boss and see if tank keeps taunt and survives.
Also please stop healing the snake boss in Arx Corinium - I have to say that to every single pug group.
And ofcourse don't use ice stave's heavy attacks on boss - it taunts the boss to you.1 -

I read your spoiler. The first time, actually. As long as you hold boss aggro and don't die, that's fine.
Please note that my comment was about face tanking on my healer (which I can do, but I dislike because if I'm gonna tank, I wanna be on my tank) or worse, someone who can't handle it ends up face tanking, and then the run gets painful.
If you hold aggro so my healer or the DDs don't have to face tank, you can play whatever weird tank build you want.

There is a big difference in a fake tank and then an "unconventional" one, though. Anyone who rage quits simply because you are using a staff is an idiot. If you are able to take on an entire heard of monsters + the boss in a Veteran Dungeon then there is definitely nothing wrong with your build and you are more than capable of tanking it. Actual fake tanks would melt in a situation like that.
If people are rage quitting your groups my guess would be it has more to do with the fact you are sprinting through the dungeon and leaving everyone else behind. I doubt it's because you aren't tanky enough. But that's just a guess because I wasn't there.

Yeah it does. You know what? I also had to face tank once on my healer. It was at the very begining of ESO. I didn't even know that I should slot taunt back then. But I understand you completely.0 -

Well if they do that in a vet dungeon, like say vet cos they wind up with so many spiders that i can even see which direction to provide healing in because the mob of spiders clogs up my screen worse than the stupid orbs used to0 -

In my PERSONAL experience, I've gotten 99 percent fake tanks, 70 percent fake healers, and about 50 percent fake dps in pugs. Thats' normal mode. Vet i get 60 percent fake tanks, 40 percent fake dps, and 50 percent fake healers. So fake tanking has been much worse in my experience. Its a hidden file in Settings / Options / Bad Ideas. It has a check box next to the statement ' request fake tank '. You have to uncheck the box if you don't want a fake tank to be brought in. Of course, since the file is hidden, you won't be able to actually See it. But its there. Just uncheck the box you can't see.

The issue is that it's smooth for us, that can handle face tanking without issues. A non experienced player will panic and die, and the run will finish without wiping but for that other player, the run was smooth, and wasn't fun. Even if they don't die, it can be stressful to play like that, instead of fun and smooth. Consider, for this purpose, that people running normals are not there for a challenging run... Specially the non dlc dungeons.
The tank makes the run a lot safer for these people, by means of debuffing damage too, with maim. So between making inexperienced players die less, suffer less pressure, hit harder and take less damage, now THAT is a smooth run for them.
This is the point... It's always about how other feel about the run with the fake tank, not how you feel about the run. It's a group activity, after all. If you wanna be selfish, don't queue, just port.3 -

At that point, why even do the normal dungeons? If it's a pledge, you get better rewards from vet/HM. If it's a random, it's more fun/challenging to do random vet than a random normal you can faceroll. In the mean time you're going to alienate your group more often than not. They might actually be interested in learning dungeon mechanics, or taking their time with the story, or simply not rushing ahead to the point where they can't keep up.
If you pull that sort of thing in a pug without discussing it, you're not the bomb. You're a self-absorbed, disrespectful person. This sounds absolutely terrible, when you get a fake tank you should always get hapless and incompetent, so everyone dies, not someone who is capable of killing everything and you all complete the dungeon.0 -

Because they're not fake dps, they're just people who are bad at dps, do you think folk are saying to themselves "you know what I want to do with my eso time today I really want to be in a dungeon queue for an hour"?3 -
Austinseph1✭✭✭✭✭If you are actually taking the aggro of bosses and survive without dieing multiple times you are technically a tank. If you aren't and a dps has to face tank and deal with your bad decisions you get the boot no questions asked. I don't really care as long as I don't tank bosses, I am not built like that and don't have jabs to carry me through content and just don't particularly want to. If you aren't doing that then you get kicked. I qued as dps and I can pull 45k self buffed, If i have to deal with you skipping in line and ruining it for everybody else you better do your job as well. I want to have fun and do what my build is made for, Not speed run death pulls and kiting a boss because somebody is impatient. Low expectations in group finder tho, I have kicked at least half of all the fake tanks in the last week with people running PvP builds that don't even do good damage. Maybe some of you guys pull it off but most tend to be bad. I do play all roles, I have 4 tanks, 6 dps (all classes) and 2 healers. All have cleared pretty much all content and fully built. I have never felt the need to que for a role I don't intend to fully preform. Some people feel like they are better than others and purposely do so in random groups. By far some of the biggest egos I have seen, and every time I cant help but feel sad for them.0 -

✭Well.... 2 days ago i queued as a tank and 3 dds (fake heal) rushed through everything....
After 15mins and dungeon finished... they told me something like "cool tank, nice to have you with us". They ignored me the whole dungeon (could not even try to do my job because of the rushing).
That's why tanking is not fun in pug

✭✭✭✭I've been "fake tanking" for this event to get quick runs, the full shebang of taunt, AoE snare, pull, defensive ulti etc etc, just in med armor with Bow/DW.
With four low/no damage abilities taking up my usual slots, i really shouldn't be doing 25-30% of group dps, and yet... to no one's surprise.
Those runs with good players though, man it's so satisfying how fast everything melts. It tempts me to turn my main into a full on tank, but.. then i remember the bad runs and think, do i really wanna get stuck with <20k group dps? so "fake tanking" it remains
