What Elder Scroll Theme song do you like the best? (See Links)

  • gary.mcleodeb17_ESO
ESO-Morrowind for me, whilst not a theme, the song 'Cliff Strider' is a touch of brilliance. I heard the 'lute' non vocal version initially, and imagined it to be a ballad about love and loss. I was in awe when I eventually recognised the song via a bard in Vivic City and fell about laughing at the lyrics. If you haven't listened to the lyrics, I urge you to do so. Another fave from ESO Morrowind is the 'Red Mountain Drinking Song'. Hilarious and joyful!

The Cliff Strider song, has become a personal anthem, and whilst grouping with Guildies on TS, should any opportunity arise, I'll switch my char to use the lute animation. If lute RNG blesses me, and Cliff Strider is played, I will sing to my group with all the passion for this song I can muster! Bard at heart!

    Cliff-strider, stride so high,
Screech loud as thunder, may you never die!
    Chilli Chillama of Chillrend.

Language is the source of misunderstandings.

    'The Little Prince'
    Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

“Say to yourself first thing in the morning: I shall meet with people who are meddling, ungrateful, violent, treacherous, envious, and unsociable. They are subject to these faults because of their ignorance of what is good and bad.” Marcus Aurelius.

    The grabbing hands
    Grab all they can
    All for themselves after all
    It's a competitive world
    Everything counts in large amounts

    Depeche Mode

The Veiled Sermon of the Pathless Shrine.

Oh Ithelia, White Star, Mistress of our Road yet Untravelled,
Of sight through tears, my path untaken sings to you, for you are my chorus.
Grant me the courage to defy what has become.
To walk paths that were never meant to be.

I remember the dreams that died in silence.
The choices never allowed to make.
Roads that shimmered just beyond reach.

You are the patron of the unchosen.
    The sanctuary of the almost.
The whisper in my heart that cries, there is another way.

    This is my heresy.
    This is my prayer.
    This, my offering:
A life to be lived in defiance of destiny.

In your name, forgotten, but not lost,
    I choose the pathless.

Spoken by Alarion the Divergent, last priest of the Unseen Shrine.

    Oblivion
I was born 87 years ago. For 65 years I've ruled as Tamriel's Emperor. But for all these years I have never been the ruler of my own dreams. I have seen the Gates of Oblivion, beyond which no waking eye may see. Behold, in Darkness a Doom sweeps the land. This is the 27th of Last Seed; the Year of Akatosh 433. These are the closing days of the 3rd Era, and the final hours of my life

Appears I missed this thread the first time. Necromancy was helpful!

    Oblivion.

It was the first game in the series I really sunk hours into and was old enough to appreciate. It holds some great nostalgic memories for me.

I realize I'm responding to a very old post, but I've always preferred Mark Morgan's Fallout soundtrack to Inon Zur's stuff in Fallout 3. Which is kinda ironic, because I freakin' love Inon Zur's work on Crysis.

    Oblivion
After a lot of thought, I ended up picking Oblivion as the best of the lot. But it was a hard choice. The Morrowind Theme is great, and technically speaking the best one, but Oblivion wins, at least for me, for it's call to adventure. Hearing that song makes you wanna go on an epic quest, to dive in the game and go do some venturing.

Morrowind, on the other hand, makes you feel all nostalgic and warm inside, as you recall the time you first set out to explore a truly unique and alien land. Morrowind was an experience, and I feel sorry for all who missed it when it was new, an no-one knew what to expect. Listening to the theme now takes me back to those times, and oddly enough, the song itself has that yearnful quality making you reminiscent of your adventures in VVardenfell.

It's an amazing song, and quite possibly the best Soule has ever made, but it loses to the one from Oblivion as a theme song, for that piece gets you pumped up and on the go, and tells you to snap out of your reverie and get out there and do some new stuff! Even after all these years, and the thousands of hours I've played Oblivion, that song just gets me every time.

Skyrim is great too, in it's own way, but falls to the same issue that Skyrim falls on in general. It drives home the fact that this game is about the Dragonborn, and the journey of the Dragonborn, and by all that is high and mighty you are gonna go do that Dragonborn stuff. 'Cause Dragonborn!. And that's why it fails, for me at least. I did the Dragonborn stuff, am over it. I wanna do something else instead.

Not much one can say about Arena or Daggerfall, except I suppose that they were okay for their times. At least they were not annoying pieces like the theme for Redguard. Urgh And as for the theme of Battle spire, well it's different and that's about that.

The old ESO theme is good too, but it is nowhere near the Themes for Oblivion, Morrowind and Skyrim. And the one they introduced with ESO Morrowind is just... Well it is, and that's about all I can say about it. It just doesn't work for me.

So yeah, my vote goes for Oblivion.

As an aside though... Some times necromancy brings about good things...

Skyrim, is one of the most epic theme of all time. Dispite that "swedish subtitles" video being the only thing I can think of when I hear it.

The Elder Scrolls games are over 20 years old. What theme do you like the best and why? Have any good stories that bring back special memories when listen to the TES / ESO music?

    01) Arena
    02) Daggerfall
    03) Morrowind (TES III)
    04) Oblivion
    05) Skyrim
    06) Redguard
    07) Battlespire
    08) ESO Beta Version
    09) ESO Release Main Theme
    10) ESO Morrowind

I think I got all the TES / ESO games. Let me know if I miss one...

Thank you for posting the links, I hadn’t listened to some of these. I like TES III, Oblivion, Skyrim, and the ESO main and Morrowind themes. But if if I had to pick only one, it would be Skyrim, it gives me goosebumps

Morrowind. It's so enchanting and everytime i listen to it it brings a tear to my eye for some reason. It feels magical and idk there's just something special about it. Oblivion is more heroic/regal and skyrim is more epic/action sounding. In the end i like them all but i personally think that the morrowind theme is the best theme in gaming history.

Well, I love (and listen pretty often to) them all, but the Battlespire soundtrack is so intense and threatening. When my son listened to it for the first time, he said: "I bet this game takes place in total darkness." And , well, he was right.

Jeremy Soule is Elder Scrolls, though I must say the music guys from ESO did a fine job as well, especially Northpoint Nocturne which does resemble the one below.
I get goosebumps from this theme (From Past to Present) from Skyrim.

If it was good enough for North Korea to use then it must be a contender for the best.

    OMG, this is just XD

I liked Arena, Daggerfall and Battlespire soundtracks, they were very atmospheric. Sad to see they didn't make it into ESO as references.
Still TES3 main theme is probably the most beautiful.

    Skyrim is just epic.

Morrowing is best for chillaxing to and is still iconic.

Now we need to run a poll of all bard/singer songs in ESO... I have a clear favourite which I actually sing all the time... so much so that my wee daughter says "dad you sing that one ALL the time" whenever I sing it!

This is the best cover (other than mine :p;)o:) )

Skyrim second as It was my first Elder scrolls game so it's special to me in that way
There is no winning or losing, but rather the value is in the experience of imagining yourself as a character in whatever genre you're involved in, whether it's a fantasy game, the Wild West, secret agents or whatever else. You get to sort of vicariously experience those things.

Morrowind theme still evokes emotion in me. There is something so amazing about that game and soundtrack that the other Elder Scrolls games never fully captured.

Big shout out to ESO main theme too! Oh how I wish that could be our main theme still...

Daggerfall also has a very special place in my heart but not the main theme. It's the ingame music I love.
