Specialized DPS for dungeons (more like trash fight setups for trials/arenas than single target boss fight setups).

Although I think it's only a difference on Stamina DPS (which I main), on Magicka DPS I tend to just change my monster set from Zaan to Grothdar or Valkyn for Dungeons.

not sure how vMA is different from solo PvE?

I'm not sure either but I sometimes see people ask for solo PvE instead of just looking for a vMA.

I typically go with a build that is self sufficient at the cost of some dps. I'll still be pulling 30k+ on bosses but I'll make sure I have sustain built in as well as self heals. I'd likely play something much more focused in an organized group or trial situation. If I'm playing progression vet content, I'd probably also be playing it a bit safer as well as a means to see more of the mechanics. As I (and the group) get more comfortable with the content, I remove some of the safety nets and go heavier on dps.

VMA setup usually involves more self healing and defense than solo play. At least that's in my experience.

    Solo PvE
Took me awhile to understand the question. I run solo PvE builds for my dds which means I build them for survival, sustain, then damage in that order. Nothing changes when I join others in a dungeon if I'm on a dd since I never run formal/highly organized groups.

Even my healer is what I call a 'pug healer'; that is, she can deal with low dps dds and fake tanks because of her own survivability, sustain and damage. A bonus for this type of healer is that solo questing is smooth.
PC NA(no Steam), PvE, mostly solo

    Solo PvE
Same setup i use to solo those very same dungeons.

I figure, if the setup is good enough to solo, it should be good enough for a pug group.

I run a dungeon specific set up for pugs with aoe damage and a group heal. If I’m running with a good group then I’ll run something closer to my trial set up, aiming for higher damage.

You never know if you get a good tank and a healer. People are simply unreliable. That is wwhy in Dungeons I've allways run in a modified trial build that had sustain and self heal. That way even if everyone dies I can finish the job.

I take MS and pFGD with grothdar. so basically a non-static raid setup except with an aoe monster set instead of zaans or 2pc crit.

Sharpened weapon front bar, use a separate set of weapons with front and back weapon glyphs flipped around since I don't bother using poisons in 4 player dungeons. More AOE slotted like maelstrom bow, acid spray for the archer or brawler with a master 2H for the melee build.

For four years I have always assumed running an AOE setup in 4 player dungeons was the best option, even if it does 5-15% less single target damage than my 40-50k pure single target builds. Building for AOE tends to lift AOE DPS around 50% over a single target build (I play NB mostly), which I tested on multiple dummies after housing came to ESO. All those years other people kept saying it was a bad idea because AOE builds weren't showing up in any trial build guide. Now I feel better about it since ESO logs pretty much proved the theory. There really is no need to be mudding your way through a dungeon while spending 2/3 of the combat time fighting trash mobs. There really is no harm shaving off minutes from a dungeon you've finished countless times by adapting a different build.

    DPS for Trials
Question is confusing, but I use my trials setup for dungeons. I always keep Vigor on my stamblade, but tend to load up with an extra shield or heals for my mag characters.
