Never been in Imperial City, how to do this event?

I never have been in Imperial City. Well I was in the sewers, to talk to someone to start a quest in Cyrodill. As for Imperial City its self, I tried to to that quest you get at level 10 and can never do it. So I don't have a clue what to do if I try Imperial City for the event here.

Can anyone help or give suggestions and ideas what to do?

Travel to the city and use zone chat to find an open PvP group you can join, or look into joining a guild which does PvP.

That said a lot of what I recall about the IC events in the past is that mostly people try to PvE there and avoid combat to farm the bonuses, whilst the PvP players hunt them.

    That.
    Exactly that.

    Expect to get ganked.
    Especially when playing solo.
Especially when fighting NPC mobs (because then its easier for them).

Here's a more general guide for what to expect when entering a PvPvE zone like Imperial City: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/492278/pvpve-during-the-imperial-city-celebration-2019

Seconding the advice to group up with other players in order to tackle the bosses, or really, to do anything in Imperial City if you are new to the zone. Being with other players is the best protection that players who are new to PvPvE can get against enemy players.

Expect to be killed by other players, embrace and accept and you may actually have some fun.
My wife (who would not have PvP as first choice) and I completed the PvE story line some time back. We got killed a few times. We captured the flag more than once to make up for it. Sometimes that got us killed again. LoL. I actually really enjoyed the experience.
The sewers are another experience again, claustrophobic and cramped. Never made it very far through but have managed (with groups) to clear out sections.
If die and choose "release" you use Tel var stones to revive at a wayshrine, otherwise use a soul gem.
    Good luck.

Breathe deep and attempt to not take it personally when you're killed by other players. (My mantra, anyway. Wish me luck.)

If its just to do the event and earn tel-var then

As already said join a group and go kill world bosses.

If you get p-killed then consider respawning at your sewer base and banking the remainder of your tel-var and then heading out again.

If you've managed to accumulate enough tel-var to make you nervous then entering the sewers from your alliances two starting districts gives you a shorter trip back but be aware that stealthed solo gankers will likely be somewhere nearby.

IC is always a balancing of risks but.... you can buy "sigil of imperial retreat" at 10k AP a pop it works as an equivalent to teleporting to a wayshrine but also has that cast time where you are vulnerable, its worth it especially if you get short on time.

A simple improvement is to temp re-spec some CP into the steed -> resistant as even getting to 1.3k impen that way will help, if you have impen gear then even better.

And finally don't take it personally, go in, get stuff, maybe get killed, rinse repeat

If you approach it with a Pve mindset with a "risk" of pvp it can be off putting.

If you approach it as pvp with a bonus of pve goodies, it's some of the most fun to be had.

Hey guys still at work. Is there risk of losing the event tickets if you kill an IC/Sewer boss but get ganked before looting the boss? Or you get the tickets instantly?

For your tickets you can kill the mini bosses indicated by the crossed swords on the map. There is one near your starting area (thankfully). If you are of the Ebonheart Pact he's called Wadracki and is much easier than the patrolling horrors (who are aptly named). So that's my suggestion if you just want your tickets.

If you want to farm Tel Var - I would also stay near your base and just kill the enemies there. I would not venture into other faction's areas or travel above to the city unless you have allies with you. Doing so is really just asking to die and lose all your stones. Gankers and zergs will not hesitate to cheese you to death with greater numbers or while you're weakened during a PvE battle. Having honor or a sense of fairness is not something that's in abundance on this game's PvP system - which is odd considering how often they claim to care about balance. Because I can't really think of anything more imbalanced than teaming up against lone opponents or attacking them while they are weak. But boy will they do it. And contrary to what some may tell you it isn't even remotely fun when this happens.

If you are interested in doing the Imperial City quest line or exploring the map I would hold off until the event is over and when the zone becomes more empty. Your chances of survival will be better then.

Also: take Invisible Potions with you unless you're a Night Blade. You will likely need them.

Just do the IC dungeons ICP and WGT for event tickets. No need for PVE players to worry about PvP players if only goal is tickets.

I also just did the sewers near the EP base now and killed that closest boss. It's definitely the easiest option if you just want tickets and some quick TelVar, to stay in the sewer area around your Alliance base.

But where are the tickets? I killed something with a boss bar, after the fight there was a loot chest with some stuff, but no tickets nowhere to be seen. And that was the only boss-thing I could find.

Did they really have to put the tickets into mobs that aren't even there to begin with? This event has a truly awful time/reward ratio. :P

The tickets go straight to your wallet, just like the TV stones. And yes, the sewer crossed sword bosses are your safest bet.

The tickets should be in your currency bar.

Do note that ZOS' official answer was that the Sewer bosses are the Coldharbor Elite Guards, which are the Xivkyn Generals with red or blue banners on their backs.

Actually today I had to loot the boss for the tickets. They were mixed in with the other loot. This was a sewer boss though so maybe district bosses work different?

EDIT: it was a patrolling Xivkyn not a crossed swords mini boss. They might work different.

Yep I would suggest you Catching Cyrodil before the total PVE revamp.

You can queue from anywhere now. Queue directly for one of the Imperial City campaigns.

According to ZOS' comment on the official post, no. Its the patrolling Xivkyn Elite, the generals with the banners on their back.

Actually, answer is yes, they do, but you must loot their body.

Tried once to help a group kill one, but didn't get loot privileges for some reason.

Tried again after I posted and this time got loot privileges and tickets. (Thank Vivec!)

    They give tickets.

I would avoid the patrolling guys with banners unless you have a good group. Those guys are not easy to solo and quite difficult.

This is for no-CP campaign. I don't know if the rules are different in CP campaigns or not as I don't participate in those.

When I needed to kill bosses in Imperial City for an achievement on one of my PvE characters last event down there I would hide in the zone where the boss I needed was located. If my faction was fighting him I would join in. If an enemy faction was fighting I would wait for an opportune moment and run in to get a couple of shots off on the boss. I would die immediately but still got the achievement if I stayed there dead while they finished the boss.

I'm guessing it will be the same with the tickets. If you just want the tickets quickest way might be to lay there dead and rotting while others take out the boss.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

They seem much easier to kill than the WB in Summerset, though I am no expert.

Plan on waiting a while for some to spawn though and hope you don't get ganked while waiting.
