All these glowing mounts and pets make this game look bad

I'm trying to come back to the game after a few years and all that I'm noticing now are these glowing camels and people with lights all over their bodies and random glowing sh@! everywhere that looks like some generic copy paste japanese mmo. My question regarding this phenomenon is why and should I expect content in the future to ignore the established Elder Scrolls style and expect something more along the lines of final fantasy?

I agree. Too many crazy mounts out there. Unfortunately, that ship has already sailed, though, and this is how the game is going to be from now on.

Might as well get used to it.

You put all those non-combat pets up and running just makes you wonder.

Looks like a convention of a Dog & Pony show.

There is enough congestion in this game, especially in the crafting area's, turn in's and banks.

Oh don't forget the idiots (pet sorc's and warden's with bears) going AFK and block access to crafting stations, turn in's,

wayshrine's.

I mean come on ZOS this has been a BIG problem for years in game.

What no pictures? I was expecting an example picture with glowing mounts that would support the notion of looking bad. I personally thinks it looks great and adds much flavour.

I completely disagree. They're unique usually and standout pretty well. They aren't usually done wrong.

Speak for yourself John. I don't like them all by any means, but I don't get the ones I don't like. They don't bother me when others with different tastes use them, and they don't bother me to see them out in game.

That purple horse&pet is awful from immersion point of view. Others magicka pets at least have some ESO-specific chapter background which makes them agreeable sight... but psijic-in-purple.. I only hope that people will be bored soon and those horses will disappear.

I do agree with this one haha, I have it, but never use common pets.

fully agree... in the end its preference...but i also cant understand people that dye their whole character in neon colors and make em look like a power ranger....

Another reason why I disslike mixing pve and pvp and prefer RP servers....

I also think they add variety, and break uniformity. If someone wants to customize their character in a certain way, including mounts and cosmetic pets, then having more options is awesome.

The very reason why I like this game over other mmos is that it is not... Flashy.
The art style of this game looks normal. No additional auras, flashy colours, unnecessary glowing eyes. It is simply looking solid and from the lack of better term - more realistic and immersive.

That is why I like eso over... pretty much any other mmos on the market. It does not look shoddy or trashy.

All those additional "RGB Aura" stuff look like it was imported from other flashy, cheesy looking game. At least I have a choice and I can use a normal looking guar mount...

I HATE glowing things in a game, almost as much as I HATE Anime and exaggerated size of things like weapons etc. Switch it right off.

I'm fine with all the glowy mounts. What bothers me is 25 copies of the exact same flappy pet wandering around town getting in my way. At least mounts are mostly unique and you don't get repetition sickness seeing the same one over and over. Combat pets absolutely destroy any immersion I might think about having.

All the flashy, glowing, cartoony MMO style of things has ruined TES a little for me, personally, prefer the old Daggerfall styles or Skyrim's more toned down world. I get that it's a fantasy game, however, I can't imagine every Tom, *** or Harry riding a Dwemer machine. Dragonbreak this abomination.

There were a half-dozen in Vivec last night, with their free purple mounts with pets on display. I imagine they all felt SO SPECIAL.

I remember a discussion* where someone was asking for ZOS to put in a graphics option to allow players to turn off the showier effects on other peoples' mounts.

I was surprised, at the time, by the people posting about their desire to show off on other peoples' screens. A few years later, and with more experience of this community, I am no longer surprised.

I hate the look of some of the mounts, but as someone else said... we're stuck with them.

This ship has sailed over 4 years ago. I remember when the horse with flaming hooves - the first "weird" mount - came out, and several threads like this pop up. Compared to all the flashy mounts we have now that horse still look quite normal.

totally agree. they take a horse and put all sorts of bedazzle. rinse repeat next week with a different bedazzle hue. and again. and again

i like original types of mounts, but i detest them taking a model and just retexturing it las vegas-style. same goes for players' skins and what-not. it's hugely lore-breaking

Right now I think things are fine. I do feel like there is a line that can be crossed though and ESO is close to that line. The pressure to make things that sell hopefully won't push ESO over the edge.

Totally agree. One of those things I hate about the ESO. And also horses with broken legs, if speak about mounts. In general, ZOS' artists have a very questionable sense of beauty. Most of the time they do a great job, but sometimes... ugly Nocturnal, weird motifs, sparkled mounts and such. Regarding the Crown Store items it's understandable, the market dictates supply, but other occasions... Well, I see no good enough reasons at all, only inexpertness.

What we're missing is cosmetic wings, halos, manga eyes, 10ft 2H swords, skirts with high heels and knee socks... Oh and don't forget about bikini armor and hairstyles with more volume than Mama Ru!

My cup overflowed when they introduced a glowing pony with braids as a pet...that's when I knew where the game is going with the art direction.

Some time ago i also raged at all this shiny, glowing mounts/skins, but later i understood that i dislike them not because they are shiny, but because most of them are done poorly. There is some good shiny mounts, like storm atronachs, for example, they unique, fit lore, have some idea behind them. And there is mounts just with neon stripes.
By the way, next crown crates mounts were datamined, who didn't saw them yet:

I don't know why it would be a problem to have a toggle that hides other character's customization and shows them in their default gear with their base skin and puts them on a "normal" mount. I think most people would still want to see other players customization but you see this complaint come up a lot and I don't see how it would be a problem to placate people who don't want to see all that glow and might even get better performance by loading fewer textures.
