Idk if these devs even play their own game, the reasoning in the U23 Q&A also makes no sense at all. They think that adding a 0.4s cast time somehow adds counterplay? It doesn't, it just slows the game down and makes it more casual friendly.

Some great quotes from the U23 Q&A:
We added cast times so there is counter play; we felt that having 3-4 abilities hitting you at once, including an Ultimate, is just too much.
And how exactly does adding a 0.4s cast time change this? If making 3-4 abilities hit at once was what you did last patch, you can still do it this patch.

You also can’t animation cancel them because we don’t want players to be able to instantly cast them anymore. They are just too powerful.
They're powerful? Yeah no ****, they're ultimates. They have entire mechanic so you can't spam them, the counterplay was predicting them, cast times just make the game clunky. The devs would know this if they weren't so disconnected from their own game and community. Ults were fine as they were, don't try to fix what isn't broken.

    The cast times on ults, primarily, save you from situations where you'd activate your ult, get waxed, and come back with your ult already burned, and no damage to show for it. The cast times mean that's far less likely to happen, as the ult will fire when the animation suggests it should happen, not when you start the animation.

    The counterplay element is a little misleading, but it's a similar story. The animation would play, but the ult would already be applying. This left players with the belief that they could respond, when, in fact, it was already too late.

    Short version is: this doesn't matter. It's an incredibly granular change that improves the feel of the game, and if it hadn't made it into the patch notes you wouldn't even know it was a thing. However, because certain segments of the community are looking for something to throw a tantrum over, they've riled you up over something you don't understand because it sounds bad.

    I'd much rather blow my ulti and get killed than be stunned mid Dawnbreaker cast.

    The ulti also does not fire when the animation suggests, as Onslaught often applies its damage (and sound effect) a good full second after my weapon visually strikes the enemy.

    Cast times on melee ultimates is one of the worst changes this game has ever seen and should be reverted immediately.

    agree, remove cast times, this only benefits the zerglings - who are too powerful this patch anyway, about time they learn to play.

    I suppose with counterplay they mean that if you do a cc into ult, you should (according to them) have more time to break the cc and dodge the ult or smth. Bad change overall.

    WTB counterplay against 3 snipes hitting me at once (with sound and animation 2s afterwards) cause of delays.

    I remember when we had a group bug in pvp. Nobody could group up. That was the most fun I've had in pvp.
    The zergers were lost and had no clue what to do. It was chaos, for them.

    I mean the dev team is changing this to balance pvp combat (according to their philosophy), they obviously wish players to be able to counter ultimates. But I doubt the mobs in the game complained they can't counter an ulti :)

    Yes, I PvE... I do PvP very casually (just lieutenant rank after 4 years of play). I have done some vMA recently, and was wondering if the fights would be the same with casting times on ultimates. I do not see the need for this change at all, pvp or pve. The ulti was fun exactly because of its instant cast.
