Tank leveling help

I'm working on an Argonian Necromancer tank, but i'm not enjoying the leveling process cuz i lack the damage needed to do mob grinds such as The Vile Laboratory or Sentinel, Alik'r, like i usually do for leveling a DPS character.

I'm wondering if there are any builds you guys could recommend for leveling as a DPS while also leveling stuff like heavy armor and 1h-and-shield, cuz i do also want to be able to play as a DPS for PvE/Questing kinda content, but tanking for dungeons and Trials.

Part of the problem is also that the build guide i'm using for tanking suggests attribute points be put as 10 magicka, 40 health and 14 stamina, so i lose out on a lot of DPS that way too.

If you want to level by actually playing as a tank, I highly recommend doing random dungeons. The extra xp is very helpful, the queue time is usually pretty quick, and you actually get to be useful as a tank.

If you want to level tanking skills as a DD, then wear a couple of pieces of heavy armor and equip whichever one hand and shield skill you are leveling on your active bar. You won't be able to use that skill while you are using a different weapon, but you'll gain exp for it. This is very helpful if you are grinding, doing dolmens, or turning in quests.

Sub level 46 just use all stamina, have a shield & sword with pierce armor and job done even in medium armour. Queue as tank in normal random dungeons, and just switch to Bow/2h/dw when you doing quests etc. Make sure you block heavy attacks.

At level 46, stop, because you will start getting into DLC dungeons where you will be kicked outright if you cannot perfom as a tank. Then you need crafted set to keep you going until level 50 where you craft a new set. After that start at CP160 start collecting gear.

Good crafted tank sets are Fortified Brass as base and then you can craft anything for the next 7 slots
And do not have to be 5 piece sets. 3-4 pieces from each of the following would work better
    Song of Lamae
    Alesia Bulward
    Orgnum's Scales
    Shalidor's Curse
    Armor Master

Just pick from the above 1 resistance set and 1 health set or 2 resistances. Do not pick 2 health

^^ This, if you can and willing to tank pugs. Especially good if you don't have the dungeon quest yet. I'm originally EU player, and when I went to check out the NA server I leveled my first char there from lvl 50 to cp160 exclusively with the group dungeons in like 3 days.

If you're looking for leveling from 1-50, don't do that as tank, it's just painful. Do the leveling as DD while unlocking the snb weapon line and keeping one snb skill on your bar. You cannot use that skill, but it will level your snb weapon line. With heavy armor, simply just wear more heavy preferably having 5 heavy piece with 1/1 light and medium.

Edit: just as an example, with my new magplar I have destro staff in hand while 1 resto and 1 snb skill on the bar, so I'm leveling all these three weapon skill line at the same time. for rest: 2+ult are class skills, one for each line, and the last skill spot is used for the fighters/magic/psijic/undaunted skills I want to unlock

Just a note, i'm already CP520. I'm just leveling my 8th character. Never really leveled as a tank before. When i first started taking it just took my DK DPS character and turned him into a tank so i was already lvl 50 before i decided to try tanking. Now i want a Necro tank so i'm actually trying to level as a tank for the first time but it's slow.

That is why I wrote an essay :D

Until level 46 you can use what ever you like like hunding rage medium armour sets etc. Just make sure when you queue for dungeons you have shield & pierce armour slotted

At level 46 it will get you to DLC dungeons, so is better to be prepared to take a lot of damage until level 50
after that you can have your CP160 gear and care less :)

Of the 11 toons I have 4 are tanks and 1 hybrid tank/dd (to so farm vet non dlc dungeon) :D and leveled all the same way over the last 5 years.
Some due to events and xp scrolls got leveled within a weekend by just doing random normal dungeons, and picking the ones which needed Skill Points.

Every one of my tanks has specked DPS until I started doing dungeons to level. I had S&B back bar with skills to level up for quest turn ins.

Regardless of what I am leveling, I have always had a back bar setup for quest turn in since some skills I want to level up are not so helpful for simple leveling quests.

As others have said, after the first time I tried to level a tank I learned to level a stam dps and respec at the end.

    Or you could do this:
Have one bar with your 1h&s and tanking skills. Have the other bar purely dps. Run around using only the dps bar. Before you turn in a quest or something that grants major xp, be sure to switch to your tank bar first.

Source: I have a tank of every class, working on the necro now.

I haven't played as a Necromancer Tank. But I often run around as a Templar tank and he kills most things in a single rotation - and that's with literally zero points invested into offensive capability or gear. The elite mobs require an execute afterwards, and that's about the only difference.

Now some of the world bosses can take awhile to burn down, but regular mobs should drop fairly easy. So I suspect you just need to devote one of your weapon bars to a decent offensive rotation. Because you don't need to gear for offense to slaughter mobs on this game. Tanks aren't like actual DPS characters who just look at mobs funny and they die - but they should still be able to easily dispatch most of them. So I would just start looking at putting together a good damage rotation on your Necro Tank. That should be sufficient if you rather not create an entirely new build just for questing.

here is small hint, UNTIL you are cp 160+ just select right race and class, and be good dd. after cp160+ you may start to build your tank or healer or role player)
