DoTs damage and bar swapping.

Hi there.
I have a small question regarding builds.

Let's say I use my groung AoE Dots. It deals xxx damage per seconds, where xxx is calculated using various stats.
Now, I swap bars, and on the second bar, I have inner light slotted. Thus, my max magicka and my crit % raises.

Will the ongoing AoE/Dots take those increase into account, or do they use what stats you have until they dies off?

Thanks !

Dot damage is scalling dynamically with your current stats and recalculating their damage every tick. That is true for both, ground dots and place-on-target dots.

    Great, thanks.

So, I should swap inner light for a hi-damage ability on the bar I spent only 1-2s in, and keep inner light on the one where I stack my casting.

Bonus question : If I cast my fragments and swap before it connects, what bar does it use to calc damage?

    This is not correct.

Most single target DoTs are "snapshot", that is, they snapshot your stats from the bar you were on when the DoT hit the target. Although even for these, penetration is usually dynamic, but for instance spell damage and max magicka are snapshot.

Poison Injection is an exception to this rule but most enemy targeted DoTs are snapshot.

Ground targeted DoTs are dynamic. Although there could be exceptions there as well.

Just tested on Live some skills with these results:
    Burning Embers - dynamic scalling
    Engulfing Flames - dynamic scalling
Flames of Oblivion - game considers this a direct damage skill but no matter, dynamic scalling
    Entropy - Snapshot

That's too many exceptions at once :-D
We are both wrong, there is no general rule, some place-on-target dots are dynamic, some are snapshots. Flames of Oblivion is tough skill to classify, technicaly it is a dot (you cast it once and it periodicaly deals damage) but it is considered direct damage attack by the game, but it scales dynamicaly.

Yeah it's definitely confusing regarding which skills carry over. Most Arena weapons are snapshot thankfully now. I remember when Maelstrom destro wasn't tho and you couldn't weapon swap cancel to get the effect.
