Flame or lightning vma staff for mag sorc pve dps ( scalebreaker)

✭✭I think either can work if you build correctly. Flame will offer you easier dps, but there are some good ways to utilize lightning with very good dps.
I have a lightning heavy attack/overload heavy attack build in progress that I'm anxious to get into vMA.

✭✭✭✭✭I think the general rule is flame for single target, lightning for AoE (lightning splash damage). Also depends who's bringing off balance. If it's you, go lightning. If its someone else, (such as the healer) go flame.
So, really depends how you have your character set up and group comp.

DarkPicture✭✭✭✭✭Only flame is usefull in pve for dd, lightning is only for healers/tanks to do offbalance. There is not any other option.

Austinseph1✭✭✭✭✭For single target use it if neither heals or tank has one backbar, aoe it does great damage if you double bar Lightning staffs. I like to use them on heavy attack builds for good aoe damage and you can swap a flame staff if neither apply to you.0 -

Ancient Knowledge passive does not make much difference here because you back bar vMA staff and you don't spend much time on back bar. The passive works only on the bar you are currently on.0 -

We are talking about magsorcs. Not much has changed for them, still the same rotation: refresh back bar dots and then continue with your front bar spammables. Don't listen to anyone who suggest filling your bars with all kind of dots and just cycling refreshing them. Available logs prove that.

And yes there is difference between ancient knowledge shock or flame staff. Even on aoe flame staff deals more dmg.0
