Will playing ESO on Google Stadia require a new purchase of the game?

Don't be so quick to trust Google . They sell everyone everyday . Would not be a maverick for them ever .

Using your private accounts through a streaming service (stadia in this case), by logging in on a different (and most likely not very well protected) machine doesnt sound like the best idea ever to be honest...

...In that case, neither does using any account. So by that logic, there is no point of even having a service like this at all then if that is a concern. Before Stadia was a thing, there were plenty of other services (like Vortex) where you could use your own private accounts and I've never heard of any issues. I tried them out for a while as well, it was more of a Steam based thing so you could login to your account and whatever games you owned you could install and play. I am not sure how Google is going to handle their systems, maybe spool up the game when you connect and destroy the session and any data afterward...much like cookies work in web browsers, it's entirely possible in server instances as well. Just an assumption and guess how it may work.

Regardless, all accounts you use are your own personal "private" accounts, so it's kind of a moot point to not use service other than for demo/testing purposes. If that were the case, why even spend any money to buy the game *again* and use the service in the first place? I wont be using it simply because I do not wish to pay again for a product I've already bought just to have the convenience of mobility. I do get your point you made though.

    W... wuuuuutttt ?

I've been quite enthusiastic about Stadia so far but... I didn't expect THAT.
I assumed every game you already owned and was supported by Stadia would be playable over Stadia (without needing to re-purchase and start over).
    That's a HUGE minus.
As other have mentioned, it makes it just another closed ecosystem like XBox and PS, with the streaming on top.

But if people (like me) just don't want to bother with maintaining a proper gaming rig, they're better off with a pure, real streaming service like Shadow than with Stadia (given this news).

Isn't Stadia a service instead of a Platform? I dunno much, I haven't been following since the gist I've already seen suggests it's going to be little more than a gimmick since gamers expect good latency and streaming a video game sounds like a terrible idea.

The input lag isn't any more noticeable than the input lag you get from playing on a console. That is to say, if you're going from a high-end PC to streaming, you'll notice some input lag. But if you're going from a console (which already has significant input lag) to streaming, it likely won't be something you notice. In fact, you'll notice improved graphical fidelity (higher resolution textures, better FPS, etc.) as games are being streamed from high-end PC hardware (which is more powerful than any console).

Video game streaming has been around for a few years. If you have decent internet, it's a very smooth experience. Here is a review of GeForce Now (Nvidia's cloud gaming service): https://babeltechreviews.com/geforce-now-beta-pc-deeper-look-streaming-service/

As we get closer and closer to universal Gbit internet in cities, I think game streaming will fully displace consoles. Not having to release hardware every few years (hardware is sold at a loss to the manufacturer for the first few years) offers a huge cost advantage. Streaming is also more accessible (no upfront console purchase needed), bringing more consumers into your ecosystem.

They could just be talking about single player games, not account-based/service games. Or at most, you might just need to re-purchase the base game on Stadia. ZOS will need to clarify.

The fact that ZoS hasn't communicated anything of substance suggests to me that Stadia will be a separate server, that Alphabet hasn't done much with publishers beyond collecting commitments, and that they aren't devoting much attention until Alphabet gets closer to Stadia launch.

I anticipate a one-time-only offer from ZoS to transfer your existing platform account to Stadia to plant an initial population in an empty server, much like PC/Mac transfers to console were offered at console launch.

If one could 'stream' one's PC account through Stadia, I think ZoS would have said something to that effect by now.

Thus Stadia, imo, will be a brand-new empty server for which you must buy ESO and all the DLCs, Crown Store items, etc all over again.

    Hell no, Alphabet.

    also don't get too comfortable..

its only the GAME itself that streams. you are still going to be connecting to the NA/EU megaserver farm.

ZOS isn't moving that into the Google Cloud. So don't get caught up thinking your ping is going to decrease because you're connected to a local Google farm without all that Akamai DDOS and routing bollocks in between.

I also wonder is this going to affect existing server performance? Admittedly I don’t know how this stuff works really, but will they be purchasing new hardware to support a new server or are they just going to be cramming it all into existing infrastructure.

Well, if this is the case, I could conceivably buy ESO again on Stadia, and then log into my PC account normally AND my Stadia ESO account with all-new toons, and then have one of my old toons group with one of my new Stadia toons. And take pictures together. And swap loot.

That seems, well, exploitable, though I don't know how personally. My thought is that the Stadia toons could load up on trading guilds, selling what the PC toons acquired. But basically you have double the characters available on the same server and twice the guilds as well.

The only advantage I thought I saw before would be nothing in this case: starting out fresh on a fresh new server, everyone needing to grind up all at once, and so better chances at achievements like PVP Emporer on the new Stadia server. If it's just logging into the NA/EU megaservers, then that's not happening.

I welcome ZOS giving us the scoop as soon as they are able to.

You're better off spending money on a VHS player.
