I havent played my stam DK for a while and while checking alcasts build i noticed endless hail and maelstrom were gone from his dps pve build. What happened exactly, was there a huge nerf?

    Volley:

This ability and its morphs now deal damage every second, rather than every half second, and increased the damage per tick by approximately 11%. This will result in an overall damage loss.

Reduced the base cost to 2808 from 3510.

The range on all morphs is now 28 meters.

Arrow Barrage (morph): This morph no longer extends the duration, but increased the damage per tick by approximately 20%.

Endless Hail (morph): This morph no longer grants cost reduction, but now lasts 9 seconds and ranks to 12 seconds at Rank IV, rather than gaining 1.1% damage per tank.

    Thunderous Volley:

Increased the damage bonus of this set to be nearly double the original value, since Volley and its morphs only tick once every 1 second, instead of every half second. The values are slightly less than double, since they are now on prettier numbers.
Fixed an issue where the bonus from this set would occasionally double dip and increase faster. It will now properly increase each tick of Volley and its morphs after the first tick of damage is dealt.

Fixed an issue where Endless Hail was not getting the bonus of this set on its final tick.

This item set will now retain its bonus if you bar swap before it can first register its damage. Rejoice, as you no longer need to sit around twiddling your thumbs before continuing your rotation!

that along with poison injection, soul trap and barbed trap being 10, 10 and 20 seconds(2 second arm time and 18 second dot) now, barrages 10 seconds(2 second cast and 8 second dot) fit together better.

the master bow adds 301 weapon damage to those who are being damaged by poison injections dot, that is better single target then the vMA bow now, since that is what alcasts builds are all tailored for.

Yes, all aoe dots got a massive nerf. Volley was among them. Very few aoe dots are used anymore, since single target dots are now inherently much stronger (and single target dps is the only thing that actually matters).

Single Target wise you want to use the Master's Bow, AoE wise you want to use the Maelstrom Bow. If you don't want to swap back and forth I would recommend using the Maelstrom Bow, the damage difference on single target is not that big, but AoE wise Maelstrom wins out by a huge margin.

Note also that the extra damage from the "Increase by ... per tick" part is roughly proportional to the square of the total number of ticks, assuming it runs to duration. And aren't ticks coming half as often as they used to?

Hello Alcast, is there any chance you could test the difference on any of your builds?

As a more casual player, can anyone help me ballpark how much DPS I’ll be losing this patch if I stick with my maelstrom bow? And I’m assuming master weapons only drop on vet DSA?

About 3k to single target depending on group buffs, class, and gear/abilities used.

And yes, Master weapons only drop in vDSA.

Edit to clarify: I've personally seen a average of 3k DPS loss between a master bow and maelstrom bow on a 6 million dummy with a variety of classes in my own testing. My statement is only anecdotal evidence.

I think the builds you see are for bosses and not packs of mobs you'd find in dungeon crawling. So you'd switch from maelstrom bow build to master's dual wield build as you need it.
