Vamp stage and bloody mara

Recently I've switched my buff food / drink to bloody mara. This is just for the stat boost and the fact that it reduces my vampire stage isn't a selling point for me. So each time I knock back a mara, I slot mist form straight away and spam my way back to stage 4.
However, after hitting stage 4 and logging out (drink still active) and logging back in, I'm on stage 3.
There is a very high chance that I don't fully understand moving between stages or the affect of this drink, but I was under the impression that you had to take action to reduce your stage, and that doing nothing causes it to either go up a stage or plateau at 4.
So why is my stage reducing to 3? Does mara cause the stage to drop over time and not just at the moment I pop it?
Am I just getting the completely wrong end of the stick?

✭I don't mean to bump this thread but I logged out on stage 3 and have logged back in on stage 1.

HidesFromSun✭✭✭That doesn't sound normal to me. Usually the stage increases until you take BM or feed on an NPC. Have you tried submitting a support ticket?1 -

I'm glad you agree it seems unusual. I haven't submitted a ticket but will now.
It's the "blood in this drink will mildly sate you" that I thought I was potentially misunderstanding as I haven't seen anything clear-cut about how this works. I assumed it would just drop you back a stage, end of story.

HidesFromSun✭✭✭You're right, it does just knock you back one stage. Exactly the same as if you fed on an NPC.
Before feeding / BM : Stage 4
After Feeding / BM : Stage 3
After 2nd Feeding / BM : Stage 2

Using vampire skills costs some of the timer, so you can use them to rush through the stages.

Yeah this - I think it knocks it back maybe 45 mins or so each time you cast a vamp ability.
I've been spamming my way back to stage 4 and then logging in at 3, 2 or in todays case, 1.0 -

✭✭✭✭✭To be honest i think i have the same bug, i juat dismissed it as "maybe i forgot i was a lower stage" all the time. But rejoice, blue food is better than bloody mara again (after the nerf) so feel free to swap out for blue food and stay vamp 4 life1 -

I know this is getting off-topic now, but is that recipe account-bound on pick-up?
Artaeum is pretty picturesque IMO so I don't mind spending a while there. I hope drop rates / RNG aren't too hideous though.
