PC vs Console - Patch and Hot fixes

Over the years console performance has been getting worse and worse.

We all know this and isn't nothing new.

Like myself and whole lot of other vet players decided to take an extended break from ESO.

But something stood out to me a little, as I still like watching content. I didn't really pay attention to the smaller details. The pattern and trends show, console has been getting less and less attention over the years.

I thought that was odd so I did some research I can throw the numbers up but I really don't need to as it's blatantly clear. ZOS gives more attention to PC community and neglects Console community in every way.

So I found that to be bad business practices, and wondered why that is been a trend.

A few reasons I thought was.

*
The hardware on console cpu's it's aged a lot and maybe cannot handle the changes ZOS implements.

*
The process to patch/fix or maintain console performance patches/ fixes costs ZOS too much.

We understand it's a process to get changes approved by both Sony and Microsoft to implement changes. But in no way should that be the case hinder and neglect the console community.

*
Both Sony and Microsoft both have gave every gaming developer company insight to next gen consoles. Thus giving them access to improve there game on.

*
3-4 years of ESO content left - Trying to rush the end of ESO becuase of failed performance issues and new technologies. Ps4 and XB1 should be dead at the end of 2020. With it - ESO will not be on next gen console and slowly die.

*
5-6 years left until ES6 drops and milk the heck otta players as long as they could. With the same old story of we will fix it - boom 2023 hits. ZoS says we will keep the servers on for another 6 months. Thanks for spending 10 years with ESO - please buy ES6 😂

*
Talent and Politics - They have more ITT Tech comp sci grads than any other company. Limited to language's and not very motivated. As a people person in social dynamics, I can tell the staff isn't your typical staff of awkward geniuses. Keeping there job is priorty #1, I see no passion or enjoyment from them. Make the shareholders happy and you win, its not rocket science we get a dlc every business quarter. Now I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the talent. I'm just saying a successful companies hires people that are smarter than them.

The "We don't like change" or "Do what I tell you" aspect. VIewed as threats. And quickly disposed off to ensure there 401k and retirement package.

Yes I have worked for a fortune 15 company, I know all about that.

*
Console revenue is actually dying and ZOS is trying to kill it.

After thought :

And yes I do understand that ESO was going to be strictly for PC, until they gave it to Sony and Microsoft also.

So we should just be happy we are playing game ? Cuase that makes good business practice - riiiiiight ? I know somebody will say this ... better to beat them to the punch. And no were not trying to invest in a small car to start over on PC. Some of us like RPGs but love real life a bit more.

So - Why don't you think console is treated like PC.

Please share your thoughts 👍

So many typos dont really care - in bed doing this on my phone.

Don't judge me 😂

If their intention is to kill off console so that they can shift support to PC, then they’re doing a fine job of it. I don’t think that IS their intention, but we’re quitting in droves all the same. My PS4 friend list, which mostly includes people who played ESO constantly, frequently shows these people playing other games. Only a handful are playing ESO.

When I migrated over to ESO from LOTRO back in early 2016 (first on my old gaming craptop, then on PS4), I could see the value in subscribing and supporting the game through the cash store. Performance was really good, and the game was great. There were blips here and there in Cyrodiil that were frustrating, but I could always play PVE with no issues when it got really bad.

Fast forward to today: console is unplayable in both PVP and PVE. I stopped subscribing a few weeks ago after more than three years of consistent subscription. Any aging MMO should never forget the golden rule: RETAIN your existing subscribers, because older games tend not to attract new players.

Again, I doubt that ZOS deliberately wants to kill off console. I think that they’ve gradually painted themselves into a corner, spaghetti code-wise, and lower end systems like consoles just can’t handle it. I’m doubtful at this point that it can be fixed — not without a major overhaul of the entire game. It’s a shame, because ESO at its core is still extremely fun, and boasts one of the few PVP systems on current gen consoles that focuses on large scale warfare. Battlefield is scratching that itch for me right now, but I’d really rather be playing ESO.

    Sigh. :(

Well, you have some interesting thoughts, but what exactly has zos released for PC that it hasn't for console?

In my experience, with a standard xb1, ESO runs better with fewer problems than most of the PC forum posters.

I can only glean that PS4 is a whole lot worse off in terms of performance compared to xb1, again from the amount of forum posts.

I'm not defending zos from the obvious performance issues people have but from a content and patch standpoint, PC and console are equal (outside of add-ons of course, which may or may not cause a few, but not all, issues).

    Equal ? 😂

Have you ever went to the Patch Notes and Hotfixes - Maintenance Announcements section.

Try comparing both Console vs PC ... you can see the obvious.

See here's the thing, as a PvP'er this is were console players gained our edge on other players.

If they fixed it on PC that means it stays broken on Console. They post the fix - i test to find it still overpreforming. I use that to kill you and everyone in PvP. Console players then get on here and complain, I've been doing that when they started nerfing my Stam Sorc in 2017. And if I played I'd still do that... becuase ZOS neglects console players.

    Wait ... you didn't know this ? 😂

No I don't use or never used exploits or bugs just stuff that slips through the cracks. Kinda how bash builds are still, not fixed but is popularized. There are other things I tested that are very small but make huge differences.

Remember when pet Sorcs were gods and unkillable 6 months ago... ? It's funny console had to wait 8 months for the pets to get fixed. You thought they were OP players? When they new that the pet heals were overpreforming again wasn't fixed on console for a long time. And some them genueinly didnt know - they just must have gotten so confident. 😂

No wonder we see these nerf or buff class
or ability threads everywhere. They get fixed then see the patch notes and go insane, but it's really a fix.

Ok I'm going to bed ...

Yeah, the lengthy time to fix bugs, as outlined above, is the worst. We dealt with bugged Torugs WWs for ages, have been dealing with bashcros for ages, etc. There’s no excuse for waiting until the next major DLC patch to give a needed fix for a PVP issue (or any issue, for that matter) that can get exploited. It doesn’t take two months to get a patch approved on console. And yet, that’s how long we’ve had to wait for the bashcro fix that PC got ages ago. It’s unacceptable service.

Abyss here, don't know if you remember me. Haven't been able to play since Wrathstone release because my ESO (not PSN) account is corrupt. After going back and forth for a few weeks with customer service I've been told to just wait for the patch and my issues will be forwarded to the devs for a possible look into the code. The way it was worded sounded like "Sorry, I can't figure out your problem so good luck to you and goodbye!"

For a detailed description of my problem refer to this thread

Then theres the massive delay on the bashcro fix for console too vs the immediate fix for PC EU's trader bidding issue. List goes on. Console is unplayable. Myself and 1 other are the only ones left on ESO out of my friends list of over 100 players lol whom I met all on ESO since I came from Dark Souls series. I haven't left simply because I do not like BDO like everyone else does.

If you think ESO will die in 3-4 years you're mistaken. Look at the zone theres about 5 years of content left in the world map, excluding other worlds, and the other land masses.

ESO is planned for the next gen consoles.

Honestly, Consoles bottleneck PC and we're sick of it to be honest.

But, consoles just upgrade to a PC, some PC's can be mobile cost like $500 more and last like 5+years. ZOS should offer transfers between consoles and PC, and PC to console.

Wells Fargo - Sorry I might opened your grandparents and friends extra CD and IRA accounts or help refinance there cars and homes. 😂

But who cares right ? I just dont play eso i play real life. And beating the system is what I do... just a shame the public is blind to see things that are common in bad corperate structure.

But I got my bonus each month though thanks.

PC players always trot out this “bottlenecking” comment, and we’re sick of it, to be honest. Are you new to MMOs? Developers of MMOs generally tend not to develop their games for high end gaming PCs only. You know, because they are Massively Multiplayer Online RPGs? Emphasis on massive? They need to ensure the game still runs okay on mid to low end gaming systems, as those are used by most people. If you want ZOS to ramp up the bits and bobs so you can get the most out of your system, then those magical fairy tail $500 gaming PCs you’re talking about will run the game just as poorly as console currently does, or worse.

Also, you’re forgetting that console ran well two years ago. These are developer issues, not platform issues.
