I honestly have trouble remembering a single one. When I do dungeons I do dungeons, not read all dialogue and contemplate the implication of the quests. LoM was something something nature something blue is bad something dragon. MgF was something something dragon something vampires bad something. Neither of them left a lasting impression.

I wish they would add dungeon-level quests and story (several stages, NPC dialogue, voicelines) story to single-player delves where we can properly experience them and immerse ourselves in the story, and they could put delve-level quests (some are just fetch this or read this and take it to an NPC) in the dungeons instead.

Right now it feels like they put the most amount of lore and story into the group dungeons where players are least likely to care, and put less lore and story into single player delves or public dungeons when players would be more likely to care and take the time to experience it properly. It seems a bit counterintuitive to me.

I've no idea what the stories are, always just followed the etiquette of spamming the dialogue away.

The only time I've been able to actually experience dungeon story was when one of the DLC ones was first released and I managed to get together a group to do it. It was everybody's first time, and we were all mindful of letting each other listen to all voice dialogue and story.

That experience made me wish more than ever that there was a story mode for 4-person dungeons. It is difficult to get groups like that together unless it's a brand new release. And even then, it's difficult.

A lot of them are good, but I think my favorite is the crypt of hearts story, or vaults of madness. VoM really needs a follow-up.

I thought Selene and the Bosmer lass were very well done, and most importantly we finally get to see that son of a biscuit Carindon get what he deserves.. almost, I still want to see him dead, but imprisoned will do.
I also enjoy the goblins leading me through FG1, and CoH1 was pretty good too.

*yet to do any v2's or dlc's besides Scalebreaker

Couldn’t tell you a single one apart from fg1. All dungeon runs are a mad rush to the finish. Everyone has been asking for a dungeon story mode for years. It really is a shame.

There are a lot of good dungeons stories, and I consider dungeons best part of the game in terms of story told by gameplay, visual design and voicing.
And real gem here is Blessed Crucible. That story deserves an Oscar.

I also didn't pay attention to the stories in dungeons for the last 4 years. Thus I don't remember a single one. I blame ZOS - not enough tools to restrain some players from running from one boss to another without waiting for entire group (in pugs).

Frostvault! I don't wish to spoil it for anyone, so I'll leave out the details. Its story and game mechanics are quite different than every dungeon I have played thus far. It's a tough one, so bring your A-game!

For the longest time I tried to follow what was going on these dungeons. Wayrest sewers and city of ash were not too bad. But honestly 90% of the dungeon stories strike me as stupid plotlines that just very unadorned versions of "there's a bad guy. To get him go through this bad guy.now go through that bad guy. Repeat that two or three times. Great now kill the last bad guy." Very little actual story/character development. Been playing fallout 76 lately. Feels like there's better story there even though you never actually meet a real NPC lol.

Unfortunately I also missed many dungeon stories because I was with a group and didnt want to hold them up.

I did get to enjoy the two newest ones, LoM and MgF with some guildies where we paid attention to the stories and took the time to look around. It was a lot of fun :)

One dungeon story that stuck out in my mind though was VoM. I ran that dungeon many times, but never got the story until I brought one of my newer characters at the time to solo it.

I know others here have mentioned that they enjoyed it, but perhaps it was just me who remembered it because during the course of the dungeon and actually paying some attention to what was going on, the feeling became stronger that I didnt care too much for my allies at all, and I started to question if I was fighting for the right side.

But this was just my interpetation of it. Either way, it left an impression on me which I believe is what a good story is supposed to do.

Oh geez. Scalecaller+Fang Lair being tied together, Crypt of Hearts, how completely different the 2 Fungal Grotto stories are, aaaaand definitely the followup of Vollenfell with Frostvault and Depths of Malatar. More so the last. OH!! And seeing Selene again in Lair of Marseelok. I really hope continuing stories/reintroducing old dungeon characters will be a reoccuring theme in new dlc dungeons.

I like City of Ash I and II, followed by Crypt of Hearts I and II, then the Scalecaller/Fang Lair companion stories.

March of Sacrifices remains my fave dungeon overall, though.

The best quest storytelling in the game is in Rivenspire, whether we're considering main regional quests or general side quests or minor delve quests or public dungeon quests or, yes, group dungeon quests.

I agree that runners-up include Vaults of Madness and the Selene story.

I'm glad people have maintained the distinction between good stories and good characters in blah stories (e.g. Banished Cells or Darkshade Caverns). There's also a bit of sense in this thread of praising ZoS just for having sequels to dungeon stories at all, and I share that view.

have you talked to the npc's on the way to the exit (the one that is behind the last boss, with all the pretty glowing bottles and the guards that salute you as you pass them)? yikes O_O

I honestly don't know which story is my fave becasue I have enjoyed every single one of them that I actual got to enjoy.

though I'm kinda partial to the Volenfell>frostvault>Malathar arc (I prefer them in that order). if only because Tharaya and her former husband as such pieces of work and their bickering is just.. damn...

that said.. I only just got to experience a lot of the stories recently, when SO and I started 2 manning dungeons together. prior to that with rare exception of a few new dungeons here and there that took silly amounts of time to organize (finding 3 other people who also want to take their time and do the story, can be a pain), I didn't get to experience most of the stories in a mad rush to loot.

I'm still floored by how many extras are in there. you can talk to the npc's between parts of the dungeon even when there are no "progress the quest" quest markers. you can talk to them afterwards. a lot of the lore objects that are no mage guild books tell so much of the extra story themselves. we did imperial city prison recently and holy cow, talking to the prisoners you free and reading letters and notes left behind by previous captives adds so much to that dungeon's lore and atmosphere....

I really really hope that one of these days ZoS will concider adding a story mode to the dungeons. take away loot, whatever else, just let people experience the stories and the environments you work so hard to create at their own pace!

I agree with many others here that stories + group dungeons are basically a fail. By the time I get comfortable enough in a dungeon to allow myself to take in anything except trying to kill and not be killed, the story was already completed while trying to focus on staying alive and with my group.

Even when I run with friends who are not in a hurry and up in voice comm, my nature is to still focus (be distracted) by my responsibilities to my group. I literally, cannot enjoy or appreciate even overland questing unless strictly solo, and by the time I can solo some of the normal alliance zone dungeons, the story is ancient history.

PC NA(no Steam), PvE, mostly solo

    This.

I wish i could tell you OP, but Zos insists on putting in voice acting that gets skipped 95% of the time.

I also want a story mode very badly, otherwise dungeons are a waste of time/money.

This thread makes me think a number of people would benefit from a good social guild.

IMO, the dungeons are almost always well done (a strong suit by ZOS).

A guild makes it easier to enjoy, stress-free, the story and content.

Sadly, if you are reliant on a PUG you take your chances in many ways, and the story is one of those casualties.

I had to solo as many of the base game dungeons on a leveling character, I believe it was my Templar at the time, so I actually had a chance to let the NPC's tell their story and explore the dialogue. Any other time I feel pressured just having anyone waiting on me, assuming they aren't already fighting the next boss by then or something.

Honestly though, unless I really think about it, I barely remember then at this point. I just know there was one point in time when I did. Sometimes you can find a group that's story friendly, but I didn't get that many takers the few times I offered a long while ago.
