Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – April 8, 9:00AM EDT (13:00 UTC) - 6:00PM EDT (22:00 UTC)
We are currently investigating connection issues some players are having on the European megaservers. We will update as new information becomes available.

Servers are just terrible.

Honestly it's just so damn bad. To even think they said 2020 would be a performance update is complete laughable at this point.

Dont believe its been like this since of 2015 forward...

I would have to agree with a commenter on another post that the core systems in their code are what is causing the issues and because they left those issues unfixed for so very long, putting more and more things on top, all of the previously unfixed issues are showing more and more. The weaknesses therein are breaking the game's functionality and normal operation. This is why it is starting to feel like the game is "reverting" to a beta state. It's hard not to say "We told you so, now what?". If the core of the game was solid, there wouldn't be so many quick fixes and patches to "duct tape" the game back together. Then, there is also the modified game engine (HERO) that ESO was built upon. Those two things really need a very hard look and decision on what to do moving forward if we are to see any positive outcome in the future. To quote:

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
    Humpty Dumpty had a great fall;
All the king's horses and all the king's men
    Couldn't put Humpty together again.

Is unfortunately an accurate description because of the obvious shortcuts and mismanagement to push fixes on major core issues before they became the issues they are today. ZOS just seems overwhelmed and/or focused on other projects. It's hard not to see, especially when there is so much silence going on. I was completely shocked out how fast they addressed and handled the issue with the EU/Guild Trader situation over the last week. THAT needs to happen 100% of the time. Hopefully they can put this game back together before it's too late. It's important that devs FIX things and not continue to add band-aids that are just going to fall off, especially at this critical junction for ESO's ballooning growth over the last year.

This is such an amazing game to have to succumb to such unfortunate and unnecessary circumstances when they could be avoided with proper organization and management. ESO should be in a *MUCH BETTER* state than it is now, but it feels like we are going backwards with performance, QOL, and bugs while content is still the top priority. Only when the game is WORKING properly should content be the main focus, and even then, always keeping a keen eye on the core of the game. You can only have so much polish and shine on the surface before the rotting inside dulls it altogether. Bethesda/ZOS has the money and resources, it's not a matter of do they have that, but will they put more of it into this game?

If people believe that this 'fix' will work then they haven't heard the other 3854638378 times they said it and ta daaaa! fail!

I know it’s fashionable to [snip] on ZOS, and there no denying that performance is terrible right know, but performance has been bad before and ZOS has improved it. 2 years ago or so, every big zerg fight turned into a slide show for EVERYBODY, where skills just wouldn’t fire and all you could do was light attack. ZOS acknowledged the problem then and did things that improved it. They’ve also acknowledged the problems now and have pledged to fix them. If you’re so negative about the future, why play? And if you’re already not playing, why bother coming into the forums just to spread salt?

Good effort at white knighting chief, but as you can see people are tired of this terrible performance with no communication. (writing on a forum they will fix a problem they just caused without addressing the bigger picture is not communication, neither is giving a 2 year time line for things we have been told were fixed long ago but somehow keep coming back). Communication is updates, ill even take monthly updates, 'we are aware of problem (x) we are doing (y) to fix it, it should take (z) time', that too hard?

When ZOS writes something in a patch note it doesn't make things magically happen, you can keep defending them all you want but I have seen enough in my long time playing this game to realise they don't care and so long as they keep the game 'just' playable, then they will still be able to make a profit from subs and crown store purchases.

I still play this game because I have gotten to know some good people (1 amazing one ;P) and like to spend time with them while I wait for a replacement game we all wanna play.

I knew someone would bust out the old “white knighting” thing eventually. If you consider what I wrote white knighting, you either didn’t actually read it or you just don’t know what white knighting is, since I clearly criticized ZOS for the poor state the game is in.

That being said, I agree with you that ZOS doesn’t seem to have been prioritizing game performance. I think they tend to let it slip as part of a cost/benefit analysis until it really starts to negatively affect their bottom line. Based on recent statements by them, I’m hopeful they’ve finally realized that they’ve let it slip too far and things will start to improve.

But hey, if you want to remain with the cool kids and keep crapping on the company that makes this game happen, you do you.

I praise where its due and criticize where its due, Im fair with what I say and everything is backed up with experience of this game and how ZOS handle their business.

If you knew anything about how this game is managed, who actually wrote it and why they struggle with performance you would understand.

But hey, if you wanna stay with the back door white knight ignorant brigade, you do you.
