Will playing ESO on Google Stadia require a new purchase of the game?

I can't find this information anywhere I've looked. I know ESO is available for purchase through Stadia, but not if existing game accounts would be able to log in and play their PC game on Stadia. It looks like it would have to be a new purchase, as several have speculated that there will be no cross-platform play much like there isn't for PC/PS4/XBox. I'm just wondering.

If ZOS can't say one way or the other right now, is there an ETA on when we will find out? Like, "we're going to discuss Stadia access in November" or what not? Thanks!

Isn't Stadia a service instead of a Platform? I dunno much, I haven't been following since the gist I've already seen suggests it's going to be little more than a gimmick since gamers expect good latency and streaming a video game sounds like a terrible idea.

I'm not sure how it's going to work. All I know is that Elder Scrolls Online will be available for purchase through Stadia when it becomes available for us to use. Stadia Base is free for everyone, but there's a Stadia Pro service as well. And there's this whole Stadia Founder special where you get everything you need for doing Stadia on your big 4K TV. But I'd rather not go all out if the ESO Stadia experience will be its own server with repurchase necessary and no access to previously leveled characters. I do PC and PS4 already - I don't need a third ESO account. :D

My understanding in basic terms is that stadia is the "box" that you play on. You will have to buy a copy of any game you want to play with a few freebie exceptions. I would assume that you can log into your regular PC account from your stadia accessible account as long as they access PC servers. It's possible they will create a brand new ESO server just for stadia players but I find that highly doubtful. The playerbase would be far too low. It should be noted that you will likely not have any addon access as the game files are not on your computer.

As far as practical uses, I don't see stadia replacing my desktop any time soon. However, the potential to play ESO on the go is enticing, but data speeds and costs when I'm not in front of decent wifi spots may make that impractical. Sure I'd love to play ESO on the subway on my way to work but how many minutes can I play before I hit my phone data cap?

With what little I know of Stadia I can say that you don’t purchase ESO through them, you rent one of their machines and play ESO through their streaming service. So, same account if it’s a PC account you’re coming from.

The only issue I see with this is that if you wanted to play through a phone...there’s a controller you can/maybe have to use. So how is that controller meant to work with a PC version of ESO? But if it’s a different account, the issue I see with that is apparently you can get a low power PC and play as you would on any PC or laptop...so I’m not sure where the controller comes in.

Point is, as far as I know, it won’t be a different account - if you’re a PC player.

At their website, they definitely say you can purchase games on Stadia, including ESO.

Think it will be a more like a platform. So you have to buy a stadia copy and they will create their own server. But this is just my impression based on what ive seen.

Anyway if they offer eso at max graphics and a character transfer from xbox, im in.

Well, anyway, it looks like we will get official info on this from ZOS when ZOS is ready to give us official information on this and not a moment sooner.

Stadia is a streaming service, like geforce now and several others. Their service provides the 'pc's' for you to rent to play your game on and stream them to you. So if you are on PC it shouldnt require a new purchase of eso.

Stadia is not a streaming service. It's just a console with different approach to hardware.

Ok but stadia is just a streaming service as far as i can tell .... you can use any pc and controller for your pc. The founders edition is just a chromecast and a bluetooth controller that includes 3 months free of stadia. There is literaly no console.

The only thing that makes sense for the requirement to buy the game again is if google is providing their own servers for the server side that ZOS currently provides. Anyone else have further insights on that?

Play your favorite games without a console.
Purchase the latest hit games and Stadia exclusives, and play them across screens you already own.

    That's a streaming service.

You can't use any PC. You can only use the rigs at Google's data centers. They are the console. The only difference between say xBox and Stadia is that Stadia does not perform calculations on a "special box" in your house and sends the image to your monitor via HDMI but does it on a "special box" in their data center and sends the image via the internet.

From end-user experience Stadia is a closed ecosystem like PS or xBox. You will have to buy games specifically for Stadia and some games have already confirmed that they will have separate servers for Stadia.

Fine, let's formulate that a bit better. Stadia wants to be a separate platform. Like PS, xBox, PC or whatever else.

That basically settles it for me. I won't bother will Stadia. Already bought ESO for PC, then Xbox and number of other expansions on both platforms. Will not do it for another platform.

After all, shouldn't Alphabet be doing something to actually entice us to try out Stadia? With Microsoft Ultimate Game Pass, I really don't need another subscription fee for video games. Alphabet is not enticing me at all. May as well stick with what I have.

Will wait for others who do purchase ESO through Stadia and see how their experience is.

If populations are already lowering on most platforms, Stadia is going to be empty if they have new servers for it. Unless it will be part of the PC servers? Idk sounds like a *** deal. And again I can't imagine adding in yet another step between my screen and ZOS' servers.

idk about that. While I do not know about purchasing the game, but it seems this is a new platform and it seems there will not be any cross play between it and PC or console.

Source about lack of cross play, scroll to bottom of article https://mspoweruser.com/elder-scrolls-online-is-coming-to-google-stadia/

Also, if you are planning on using this service, I hope you have a very large monthly data cap or truly unlimited. Read the article below because this is not like playing ESO from your PC or console. This will be like streaming an HD moving constantly while you are playing. lol

Google Stadia uses a fork of Linux as there OS. And every game that is in there store is made for Stadia. It will have his own UI etc. It looks like it will have his own Servers. But if ZoS want it they can crossplay with PC. If you want a netflix for games you can look at xcloud/gamepass(xbox/pc). Geforce now.(nvidia shield/pc). Vortex Gaming(mobile/PC).
Some streaming services will have some licients steam games. But not 100% supported.

Shadow is the only steaming service where you just rent a high end pc for 30/35 dollar a month. And will have win10 like your normal pc.

Stadia will have its own platform where you can connect to. With its own servers and store.

most streaming devices use a posix type os. that's nothing new. The interface you speak of will be to stream the game to you from their machines.

the so called founder edition is just a chromecast ultra and a controller with 3 moths free service included in the bundle.

you will literally be able to use any pc to connect to their service.

Stadia Founder’s Edition lets you instantly enjoy games in up to 4K on your TV1 without a console. You can also play across laptops, desktops, Pixel 3, and Pixel 3a2 with cross-screen early access starting from day one.

So basically, you pay for the game (again), and Google makes royalties off of it. Makes sense why Stadia is "FREE" but on the other side it makes ZERO sense when you should just be able to login with your existing account. Why not just charge a different monthly fee to be able to do this? I'd rather not have to buy multiple copies of the same game and spend tons of time again leveling new toons. What is the point? Was interested at first, but that's a deal breaker. This may be good for new players or those who want to dedicate to a cloud gaming platform. Hard pass for me though. :/
