✭✭✭✭✭NoIt’s competitively priced for the benefits it gives. It’s actually quite cheap compared to other forms of entertainment. It costs a lot less than going to the movies, less than my Netflix and Hulu, less than my hockey fees, less than my wife spends each month on her hobbies.
Anyone who finds this price point to be a deal breaker has the option of not paying and still getting access to a huge world, dungeons, trials, and pvp. You're not getting anywhere close to $15/month worth of content though. It's one of the reasons why I stopped subbing.
I was paying $180/year, in addition to the base game I bought ($60) and expansions ($40).
Subscriptions are poor value. $180 is the equivalent of 3 AAA games. Yet all you get are a few short DLCs for that price (it doesn't even include the expansion).
This isn't a problem with just ESO. It applies to subscription-based games in general (like WoW and FFXIV). What exactly are you paying for with the sub in those games? The value is even worse since you have to sub just to play those games (and you don't even get DLC).
I'm a strong proponent of paying for content as it comes out. This is why GW1 was the perfect MMO/quasi-MMO for me. There was no subscription. There was no cash shop. ArenaNet would simply release expansions every few years, which would fund the continued development of the game. This model forces developers to release quality content that people want to buy, rather than creating carrot-on-stick systems designed to drive retention for the sake of retention.Edited by MLGProPlayer on August 20, 2019 2:15AM1 -

✭✭✭✭✭YesYes. I only say this because the games performance and reliability is so inconsistent that it makes no fiscal sense to get the six month or year long deals. Month to month is the only way to go as we often hit periods where sections of the game (most commonly PvP) are just unplayable due to performance issues or terrible balance passes or both. I take the most time off from this game simply to avoid mounting frustration with it.0 -

It is competitively priced, not required to play the game and if you do not think it is a good value then do not pay for it.

The game definitely has its issues, but for a form of entertainment that’s almost always on, it’s pretty much impossible to beat.
I could pay more for a couple of new single player game and be totally done with them in under a week.
I find the additional storage, craft bag and increased house limit to be solid QOL improvements - plus I don’t have to buy DLC’s.
