Ranged DoTs Vs Melee DoTs

As a console player, I have no first hand experience with the DoT changes in Scalebreaker.
But, having followed the PTS and watching PC play on live, I'm curious about how people think ranged DoTs should function.
Would they have been better if they were added to classes, or even a specific class, making that class a something like a ranged DK option?
From the outside, it looks like ranged DoTs were put on par with the kind of damage melee players already had access to for a very long time, and obviously being ranged is already advantageous, but what kind of damage should they have?

    They should have range 20m so they can't be used out of range of gap closer. Or make them projectiles with speed of flame reach. I mean entropy and soul trap only.
