Not animation cancelling. AC can be learned with 20min practice

He was canceling the animation of his ability in order to feint.

The ultimate irony here is that you still have to learn to animation cancel in order to feint, to adjust to changes aimed at stopping animation canceling preventing people from reliably reacting to ultimates.

    We've hit inception.

No, its important to note that the cast time change had nothing to do with "animation canceling".

It was definitely put in to hinder animation cancelling - which is the second most whined about feature of the game after Sorcerers. It seems like it was added to the most cancelled ultimates. I would not be surprised if ZOS doesn't add 400ms to every instant ability going forward.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks they are putting it in to try and hide the lag inherent in the game.

I'm pretty sure this is only a "problem" in 1v1 situations, group combat is far too hectic to pull off a feint like this. Nevermind the omnipresent lag. You're probably reacting 2-3 GCDs behind your opponent at the best of times.

In that 1v1 context however I can't see the issue. Sound like good strategy to me.

You know how you hear that Assassin's Will proc and you instantly "Oh shi-" dodge or block? But really I was just barswapping to make the sound trigger again and again? Same thing. And I'm not even sure if that was a real thing or not, it's too hard to tell wether you genuinely outplayed your opponent or if it was just lag/them sucking.

    No it isnt.

It actually has absolutely nothing to do with "animation canceling". DB and Incap have always been instant cast abilities meaning so long as a target is in range for incap to be used or a target is within the conal range of DB, the abilities will resolve server side immediately. These abilities missing or being dodged is a result of anticipation ie if the target was already under the effect of dodge rolling.

Bar swapping or blocking right away, depite popular misguided opinions, did nothing for how the skills are resolved server side since that occurs instantly upon ability press. Visually, client side however, the animations for these abilities never lined up for when they resolve and when the actual animation of the attack making contact is shown.

They claimed it would make things easier for weaker or inexperienced players.

So now not only can they not land their own ultimates, they're still getting rekt by animation canceling.

Aw so it was the usual nerf things that are not me thing xd those types of nerf calls are *** and should be ignored, even though it looks like it is not a nerf this time around because of wrong implementation.

Maybe the unintentional side effect is that you can see your opponent dodge, cancel your ult, and try again (saving the cost). Only let your ult hit when you don't see your opponent dodge.

I might have to try it...

I'm missing something, because if you attempt to animation cancel (block, swap, roll) incap now, you cannot hide the visual. The ability doesn't deal damage until the cast time resolves (if it resolves), and does not cost ultimate if it does not fire (well, shouldn't but bugs may exist).

Can you explain why that change was made if not to give people time to react to those ultimates?

you should blaming yourself to dodge to much with magicka character with low stam and stam regen, you can block weiving your skill while your enemy wasting gcd to "feint".

in the first place, enemy not really feinting, you just out range them by dodge to early so their cast canceled by itself, literally cucking yourself.

You can do that in guild wars 2 for years and it's survived. I think the pvp is even better in ways in gw2.
