Is the game more graphic intensive than I thought?

It doesn't seem crazy beautiful or have any new graphical technology. I just got a 2080 super and thought I could crank it to ultra high on 1080p. I actually encountered a lot of slowdown and had to go down to high for it to be a smooth 60fps. Seems weird, but whatever, it doesn't really look much different.

The game is graphics intensive but the CPU is the bottleneck iirc. It pretty much uses only one core for most aspects of the game.

Most I raid with who have commented about being able to run trials with high FPS are liquid cooled and pretty much OC.

The CPU is the biggest bottleneck.

It’s so ridiculous that I can play Assassins Creed Origins in Ultra High with absolutely no problems smooth as anything, but this 5 year old game runs like crap. I’ve had to make so many little tweaks to get it to run half decently.

This game is more cpu intensive, I have an I9 9900k oc’d to 4.9ghz with a GTX 2080 and my gpu sits at 40% max while the game maxes like... 3-4 cores and I still experience fps drops. It’s mostly poor optimization from back when it was developed for fewer cores because that is what was on the market. Hopefully the next few quarters of patches will help that. To be fair I play higher quality settings than are available in game through user settings tweaking.

I have found the higher you can go in resolution the better eso runs, it’s not perfect but much better than 1920x1080.

You can remove a lot of the cpu bottleneck by running at 2560x1440, 2560x1600, or 3840x2160

This translates most of the bottleneck to your gpu. If you don’t have a monitor that goes beyond 1920x1080 you can use Nvidia DSR to render the game at one of those resolutions than sample it down. It will look better regardless and allow your gpu to stretch its legs.

Lower resolutions like standard HD 1920x1080 hit cpu bottlenecks much faster than higher resolutions.

ESO is however still poorly optimized. It may run better at resolutions higher than standard HD, but it’s by no means a solution to all the performance woes that game has. It’s just slightly better.

It's not graphically intensive at all. Your GPU is never exceeding 30-40% usage. It's CPU bound, and horribly optimized. You can swap out your GPU for an old, low-end GPU, like a GTX 750, and you'll still get the same performance.

I suppose you can look forward to the performance updates, or at least hope

Its all CPU and Ram speed, a 2060 and weeker will give you same fps as a 2080 ti, especially at 1080p.

No its not GPU intensive, I play on everything maxed out 1440p between 80-150 fps (except in PvP and Trials ofc) on a gtx1080 (which is significantly worse than your 2080 super), its more about your CPU and modifying the config file to get good performance.
