Gold Mats and Refining.

Large groups of people refined hundreds of thousands of raw materials and compiled their data to find the average person would gain around 1 gold material per 100 raw materials they refined. This information was gathered by using very very large sums of refined data and not just one persons good, bad or average experience refining as they have played the game.
However I find myself in the tin foil hat community as it seems...
I have refined around 25,000 (multiple times in one go) raw materials and talked to other players who have also refined similar totals of raw materials and it seems the drop table for gold materials have been dropped by around 30% resulting in 1 gold material every 130 or so raw materials. This is not new information. It has been talked about before on the forums and other people have detailed spread sheets showing the results.
This may seem insignificant but in most cases this means you can sell your raw materials for more than the items you will get from refining on average.
So I guess the whole point of this thread is to let people know that you can normally make more gold selling raw materials than refining. Sadly.

You're also not taking into account the resale values of other mats refined through the process - it isn't all about the gold tempers.
I trade a lot more than most - I know that I can make more profit from selling refined mats than raw. No question.3 -

I would notice sometimes, having like 1000 or so raw ore in my bag, go to refine it, get maybe 2-4 tempering alloys.
Then another time I would have a small stack of some odd level ore (like orichalcum or galatite) and then I would refine those 10 or 20 ores and guess what? TEMPERING ALLOY. Always with the super small stacks. You think the same odds would apply to the massive stacks but nooooo. Am I bitter? Ya. lol"But screw your courage to the sticking-place,

I am trying to discern what you are actually saying here? Do you farm that many raws or buy wholesale? I agree the ratio is typically between 175 to 225 per gold as a linear average. 130 is pretty darn good, what is the batch size breakpoint where you start to achieve 130? I think you indicated 200k but I find it unlikly you refine that much in a setting, do you mean as an aggragate over time?

I am a re-seller so I come into large numbers at times.
I first did this years ago when I did the harvest 10K materials achievement. I didnt refine anything until I had about 20K raws to refine and did it purely to test my results vs the people who said it was 1/100 years and years ago. I found them to be correct on my smaller sample size of 20K or so.
More to this date though. I have refined 25K raws a few times over the past year and each time it has slid further and further away from 1/100 and closer to 1/130. I asked my other friends who are re-sellers or serial farmers and they said they had similar results around 1/130. The number 200K came from my few batches of 25K at a time and the numbers I gathered from my friends who have done the same as me.
We all found the number to be around 1/130 but others are indicating its even worse and 1/200ish. I guess we are luck boxes and if the numbers are saying 1/200 I am even more sure that I will flip raws vs refining them.0 -

To answer your point on non-gold mats: on PC/EU Mastic (purple/wood) is c. 525ea. So, a stack of 200 = 105k. Yes, I think that’s worth the slot.0 -

Good point on both accounts. This is the first time I have heard of such a high return rate on gold mats when refining raw material as demonstrated time and time again we average one gold matt per 200 raw. I guess OP is lucky to get such a higher percentage than those that refine large amounts of materials normally. I never refine less than 10k raw matts and have always received ~1/200 consistently .
But also a good point about the purple matts.
Edit: this was also tested on the PTS to make sure there were no changes in this recent update and they found the return to remain at 1/200.
Also, the price of raw matterials has often been more than just a part of the return of refining them and OP is focused only on a part of what is received as the person I quoted alludes to.
