Major Evasion: you might add damage reduction from overtime effects

Title. It might be a solution to turn down that insane dot damage without affecting pve at all.

Something like :

Major Evasion Effects

-25% Damage from area of effect
-25% Damage from direct Damage Overtime effects

cheers

So 50% less damage from sleet storm and pretty much every other frost ability used in PvP with 100% uptime from one buff? Sounds fair... not... frost mage is already dead in the water, doesn’t need any more nerfs. Yes dots should probably have counterplay (especially for medium armor) maybe a new classification of dot damage reduction (major/minor fortress or something?) or a mechanic like purging one dot per dodge roll (stop drop and roll)

No. They can add a new buff anyone has access too that requires sacrifice for players and build choices instead of giving medium a free pass.

It should be a good option as well. I agree.

@_Ahala_ nup.. I wrote "-25% Damage from direct" to avoid the issue that you correctly pointed out. Since storm is AoE, it's not a source of direct damage

25% would be a little OP. You would be getting 25% damage mitigation from every source except for direct single target.

My mistake. I didn’t read that correctly. If it only applied to dots that stick to the player then that wouldn’t be a problem.

I do think they should be separate buffs and that medium armor should be given something else to deal with dots like a 1 effect purge on dodge added to improved sneak (renamed to “Reflexes” or something) so that medium has a way to deal with soul trap and other dots that tic through their main defense mechanic). Putting both effects on major evasion would overload the buff and leave light armor builds out of the loop when it comes to this powerful and arguably necessary buff.

Even so, I’m wary about massive damage reduction buffs with 100% uptime like major evasion is on live as they have the effect of being a constant and brutal hard counter to some classes and specs when built in certain ways and stacked with different counters (ie block + major evasion destroys the damage of magdens only real burst tool).

It would be fine if the major evasion buff or the major dot reduction buff was a short duration and the minor version was 100% uptime but having a 25% damage reduction on a 100% uptime buff is a serious problem for classes that rely strongly on the damage type in question.
