I need an unbiased non-fanboy simple person opinions on these as I've been planning to get a pair due to several recommendations.

Are they worth having for MMO gaming or is it just another over-marketed gaming product ?
Is the sound quality and surround sound quality high? Is it good for music?

Most importantly: Are they really as durable as they say? I travel a lot and work in all kinds of environments due to my line of work, so I need everything extra durable, whenever possible.

Any link to a good unbiased review would also be appreciated. I'm mostly finding reviews that seem too "constructed" or even worse, sponsored. I know this might be kind of an offtopic, but I want to be sure since I can't just pick these up at a store where I'm currently located.

If you're struggling to find a review that isn't from either the company themselves or a sponsored reviewer I would probably stay away from them. I just had a look at what the retail price of them here in Australia is and good lord I could buy two sets of Corsair Voids for that money.

I have owned 3 pairs of a40’s. Two for myself and one for the wife. I had both originals and tr’s. The originals lasted about 4 five years and had to get the new a40tr. I moved away from them and into the audiophile realm with Sennheiser 650 and 700. I can clearly tell a big difference in sound quality. But you have to have a dac/amp and a mic which makes them not travel friendly. I also owned some trition headsets in the past. So I have had a few different products.

Honestly for mmo’s you don’t really need top of the line sound quality unless you want it. I think you need higher end stuff if you are playing FPS game To hear footsteps

My opinion is that they are at best fine and nothing special from a sound quality perspective, probably overpriced. They are decently durable as far as the base headset in concerned, though I had to replace the mic twice. At least it’s detectable which is allows you to replace parts on it. The dac/amp that comes with it is what makes it a decent product I makes the soundstage better. So you have to have the dac in my opinion, which sucks a bit if you are using them for traveling because it another part you have to bring with you. They are not very good for music.

I hear a lot of good things about hyperx headsets too from reviews and my best friend has it and I tried it for a few mins and they have a nicer sound quality than astros in my opinion. As to their build quality he has only had them 8 months or so I can not say much about them.

You should also check out Zreviews on YouTube he has a lot of stuff on headphones and some gaming headsets that I found really helpful when I bought my sennheisers.

Anyways I am just kind of rambling on. Let me know if you have questions or want more information.

Awesome! Thank you for your response. It looks like I'll be passing on these as they seem to be at kind of average level from what you're saying.

This is exactly why I'm asking here rather than using Google. I need a "normal" person's opinion before I buy. Looks like I'll be looking into more products then.

It sucks that stores don't just have a bunch of different headphones for you to try on and listen to make a more proper decision too. With so many of them on the market you just never know.
