The Never Ending War Wages On

Any of you ever go into Cyrodil with the intent to get Vigor, Caltrops, Warhorn etc...and find yourself drawn in. All of a sudden you’re a war veteran with years of experience running around, taking keeps, Resources, scroll running, having a blast with these huge battles...learn how to read the map and know what’s going on.

I do. I’m terribad at PvP but it is so fun. I get drawn in here for months at a time. After dinner, log on and do a few things. Go in to Cyrodil and the next thing I know it’s midnight and got to peel myself out of here and crawl upstairs to bed and wake up in a few short hours later.

Come back the next day and do it all over again. Then start to put together a build with like, actual Impen gear and stuff. My inventory is clogged with ballistas, rams, oils, and stuff. Then I start doing better. Almost getting good really.

Ok, let’s face it. In Cyrodil, you’re either a potato or a battle hardened vet. There’s really not much in between. Once you commit to having an actual build, you’re gonna be infinitely better than your standard potato. Know how to pick your fights, read the map; know where the action is. It doesn’t take long.

I feel like most people ruin cyro trying to do things solo. I admire people who kills zergs with 4-5 people. I feel like that's the point of it. Zerg is cyro. Be the zerg or fight against it. Solo people are like jackals who just picks off people who wonder away from the zerg. They are not fighting against the zerg. They are doing nothing to stop zergs except maybe annoying them. These are most likely the same people who get mad at you when you play with a group of 20 people and capture castles.

Yeah, it often goes like that.

I mean, I originally went into Cyrodil back in the days when a whole new map didn't quite give you a veteran rank, to make up for that so I could use the drops from the next map. You know, doing the dailies and such... until that time I popped to a keep intending to leave for dailies and found a siege starting. So I pitched in there... and found it fun, even tho I clearly was not up to the veterans levels. So when the siege was broken, and the defenders went on the counterattack... I tagged along, and went with the warband as we took a enemy keep instead, then lost it again when the enemy reinforcements (with an unkillable vampire DK emperor, no less... realy, six of us against one of him, and he wiped the floor with us all, sheild rush, bat swarms and dragon blood - that was what, back in late 2014, early 2015 or so?)
Anyhow, that was my first taste of PvP in ESO.
And I found it far more brearable then the "battleground" style I knew from other games - because in ESO, even low skill players can gain some success in war through the sheer quality of quantity! Sometimes anyhow. And even if you loose in the end, as long as you have -some- success... its fun!
I still suck at the PvPness.
But I still go there, knowing I will be looking at a lot of blueish respawn screens, and sometimes I have fun even so, and other times its just way too laggy... but in the end, that makes the fun times all the sweeter.

Baked potato. I see myself as somewhere between a sweet potato and a baked potato, but often a mashed potato as well.

    That could be me.

I started out a terrified fisherman who hated the thought of fighting other players.

Now I've played on PC/NA Haderus, Trueflame, Vivec, and Kaalgrontiid, my MagDK healer hit August Palatine, and I'm still loving PVP!

All of a sudden putting together this perfect build that can slice and dice through choreographed content with a well oiled group seems so trivial.

I’m in a massive group trying desperately to take Allesia! We got siege shields, 20 out of 20; beating down the front line soldiers; some tanky dude taking a massive beating all a sudden Dragon leaps us dazed and confused.

This freaking group comes out of no where. I’m blasted by shalks Dawnbreaker Nado. Healers kicking into full swing. Saved our hide

The battle has shifted in a single instance. Bombers wiped half the group. We’re scurrying. Someone put up a camp.
The wall falls down. Don’t dare enter that breach yet.

It diddnt go so good for us after all that but it was epic.

The fights are so much more reactive and Grand. I can’t wait to get back in here tonight!

Dam another PvE event coming up to focus on right when broken a$$ Cyrodil holds so much promise of breathing life back into my gaming spirits...

Nope, get in, throw rocks, get skills, get out.
So they raised the floor and lowered the ceiling. Except the ceiling has spikes in it now and the floor is also lava.

I'm a baby potato, I get a debuff even when enemies look at me  But I do enjoy being in Cyrodiil--it's like you said: I'll go in for a transmute farm, or to level the skill lines, and suddenly it's a couple of hours later, and I'm in all caps 'For the Covenant, for KIng Casimir and the High King!' in the zone chat  I wish I had the time and discipline to create a proper build and have a decent go at it, but I always end up spending the majority of my game time in PvE.

As someone who works in a kitchen, I can assure you a raw potato is way harder than a baked potato. I can poke a hole in a baked potato with my thumb if I press hard enough lol.

Well, that depends -how- baked, right? Sure, a cooked potato is squishy... but a potato forgotten in the oven and baked into dark brown armor plate like consistency like my mom used to do on occasion... (Yeah, everyone in my family learned cooking in self-defense!) :p;)

I was bored with ESO and almost stopped playing. Decided to try an actual PvP set up on a whim after always hating and avoiding it.

Just got my 2nd Star & Warlord title the other night.

That's actually me. I refuse to make all new gear just for PvP so i go in with a PvE build and just 1k worth of CP crit resist.

Still one of the best feelings in game for me is when we defend our keep from a thirsty zerg. Kill after kill until you find yourself and your core team out front pushing harder devastating their every attempt from the respawn FC that will eventually be overran & useless.

Defending keeps was hands down my favorite thing to do in game. For me there was no better feeling than pushing 40ep from alessia or trying to defend roe from the entire smurf server...
    Epic fun indeed!

i'm a big fan of defending also...even better when the front door is down and everyone is still scrambling to stop the evil masses from overrunning the keep - fighting up on the second floor, stairs, around the flags and on occasion outside the inner keep...better yet still if all three alliances are there inside the keep - pure chaos...

on the flip side it's also a lot of fun to finally knock that front door down, look inside and see oil pouring down everywhere around the first flag, along with a bunch of enemies and (not so inconsequential) guards waiting for you - and, trying to figure out what skills, ults and pots you'll need to use to actually survive once you enter that front door...

Those large defends where you have 6 people catapulting the outer gateway and a good group waiting to destroy anyone trying to rush through. Oof.

Im terrible in a fight but i know how to launch a meatbag!

The wall falls down. Don’t dare enter that breach yet...

And then your screen freezes. You think, "Maybe it will come back. My graphics are set to black and with with stick figures, my Internet connection seems fine and my system is only a couple of years old... Surely..." Nope. So you force kill the game, log back in, play the horse simulator game and catch your group. You take a keep or two, have a minor battle at a resource, you get back into it.

Then your game starts acting weird and you know another group is nearby. Chat mentions members from both enemy alliances in the area.. Oh, no... here it comes again. You see enemy players standing still as combat swarms about them. "Death to the DCd!" you cry killing those poor unfortunates. But then suddenly, you are moving about and everyone ELSE is frozen. It's your turn now. You wake up dead, and the groups have all moved on.

So, another round of horse-simulator? Battlegrounds? Nope. You shut it all down, walk away, and do something else. Because massive open world PvP really doesn't work well in this game, especially during prime time, and you were a fool to even think it finally would.

No appeal to PvP even with forced things like needing certain skill lines.

I despise the idea of paying to open a skill line with Crowns, but I would almost be tempted to do it for these lines, except that I would still have to master them on one character which would be very painful.
