Its was already garbage compared to new rapid regen, now it's absolutely not worth slotting unless you're a healbot. You took a fairly low performing heal and made it an OP zerg heal skill.

Mutagen was always spammed in PvP to get AP ticks from randos as they took damage. You could get Tier 3 PvP rewards in 1-2 hours if you went during prime time with a group. It was also nice in PvP because of the extra purge on top of the burst heal. So for non Templars, mutagen was better. Rapid regen on Templar makes more sense because of their in class purge. In pve trials I only ever used rapid regen morph for kiting vCR hm and vAS hm.

Old mutagen sucked - the cleanse effect was laughable in pvp where you have 10+ effects on you on average, Rapid regen’s always been better but still not very good.

Think they buffed mutagen and removed the secondary heal purely because of the set that gives major protection when low health or vampire. Hold block when low health and wait for the effect to proc.

On an average build the secondary effect of mutagen almost never fires, on a high health build focused on increasing the chances it could be OP.

Main reason for changing mutagen I think is they wanted mutagen and echoing vigor to be about the same power. So they had to increase the healing on mutagen and let it hit more targets and nerf echoing vigor.

LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

@Iskiab interesting thought on trying to homogenize mutagen/vigor. To do so however, mutagen would have to quite outclass vigor to be worth the specific (pretty useless for dds) weapon restriction on one bar to use mutagen. I would actually consider avoiding slotting a resto stick on a mag dd by looking at orbs. Orbs is well less than ideal for a mag self heal but at least it doesn't require a resto stick. As a soloist, my mag dds quite like EleDrain on their back/buff/debuff bar so slotting a resto stick hurts. A lot.

Even my healer, however, agrees with you that mutagen was never a great or op skill.

I'll be weighing whether to slot mutagen or RR. The good thing about the reworked mutagen is that there is an increased chance that it will actually land on you since it targets more players now. That was always the most frustrating part of it, it could land on other players when needed. Same with the shield.

Your mag toons are Templars or MagDKs? I’m so used to using a resto back bar on my characters I forgot that some classes use S&B or double destro.

I never considered that dps back bar ele drain so might not use it anymore. That will increase the value of all sources of major breach like mark target.

The orbs base heal was nerfed on PTS by a little bit, but if an entire team uses the synergy the healing per cast will be way up. Hopefully more people will in pvp, that’d be pretty awesome.

@Iskiab my healer is a Templar and she does slot a resto back bar but my current take on the resto changes is that she will likely retire from healing and transition to dps with dual lightning staves. My other mag chars are all dps - magsorc, magblade, magward - all run dual lightning staves. From my take on the PTS changes, resto staff no longer cuts it - even for a healer so, by extension, I figure no more healer for me. Now I won't make that final choice until after I try things out after the patch goes live but I've pretty much resigned my healer to throwing in the towel and joining the hordes of dds.

I think they should just give the Mutagen emergency effect to Rapid Regeneration and make it a self heal.

So now it's a better AP spam? XD Lol. We all know it purifies ONE harmful effect, and I can't imagine someone slotting it for that reason, it was all the heal to get out of execute range. Live or pts mutagen < PTS rapid regen there is no question in pvp unless you a zergling.

Rapid regen if you are healing mostly yourself, radiant regen/mutagen if you are healing other people.
