So what happens to the items that you sell to a vendor?

So I was hypothetically thinking, that you could use a vendor as well a storage unit of a sort. But I guess it depends on how this question is answered. When you sell something to a vendor are able to buy it back? Or does it disappear when you log out? Thanks :)

They either get erased when you leave the instance, or you log out. Either way selling to a vendor is pretty much emptying files into an automatic Recycle Bin.

No, they don't get erased when you log out, you can log back on the next day-- or the next week, if it's an alt you rarely play-- and when you visit a vendor those last whatever number of items you'd sold will still be available to buy back.

I don't know about instances, but I assume that it's the same, since logging back on a week later isn't necessarily going to land you in the same instance as you'd been in a week earlier as far as I know.

Note that the buy-back tab is too unreliable to use as a temporary storage, unless you're really, really careful.

For instance, if you go to buy back an item but you don't have enough gold, it seems like the act of trying to buy it back will cause it to disappear.

In other words, you sell something to a vendor to temporarily free up some space-- say, so you'll have enough empty slots to deconstruct an item-- then later you go to the buy-back tab and select the item to buy it back, but you no longer have enough money because maybe you'd deposited your money in the bank or whatever. So you close the merchant window, run to the bank, get some money, and go back to the merchant-- but all the stuff that was on the buy-back tab a moment ago is still there EXCEPT for that one item you'd just tried to buy back a moment ago but didn't have the money for it.

Also, since only the last X number of items you'd sold will be available to buy back, if you have several of the same item in the list and you want to keep them-- say, 2 Rubedite Ingots, 4 Rubedite Ingots, 1 Rubedite Ingots, 7 Rubedite Ingots, etc.-- then it's a good idea to buy each of them back so they'll stack in your inventory, then sell them again as a stack. That way your "free temporary hey-mister-merchant-please-hang-on-to-these-things-for-me-i'll-be-back-for-them-later inventory slots" won't get filled up by multiples of the same item.

Ok so they works a bit like a computer recycling bin, items is still in you inventory but marked as sold so they cycle out.
Never thought of it as an temporary storage, might be nice in dungeons for stuff you want to deconstruct.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
