So, the trend for the past years has been to give Expedition, either major or minor, to a lot of skills, replacing buffs that were actually useful. Also, Evasion has been changed from a chance to passively dodge, which was useful but arguably didn't make much sense, to reduced damage from AoE, which doesn't make much more sense but has some use if you simply can't be arsed moving out of the way. Granted, with the telegraphs bug, it may be hard to move out of the way since you actually have no idea where to or not to go anyway...
So, I get it, those buffs have situational use. My question is, are they really so useful that they should be present in so many skills, to the point they remove not-so-situational buffs ?
Back in the days, Nightblade's path of darkness started as a damage over time area of effect, and could be morphed to either top that with a heal over time, or a movement buff. Nowadays, it starts as a movement buff, and can be morphed to either heal or damage. So, clearly, emphasis is on the movement buff. Why it is remains a mystery to me.
Now, according to PTS patch notes, Momentum (and its morph Rally) will lose its heal over time effect and gain a "lazy bum can't be arsed moving out of the way" effect instead. Rally is (was ?) one of the most awesome skills to have both decent offense and survivability. For some characters I play, it'st he ONLY way to self heal (I don't PvP, so I don't have Vigor). I read the dev comment, it's the point, it felt "too good to pass". So in a way, they admit that Evasion is less good of a buff...
If I want to move faster, I'll use Rapid Manoeuver. It's a rank 1 PvP skill, so any login reward in the form of alliance points will unlock it. And even that is extremely situational. In a game where your combat kit is 2x5 skills only, wasting a slot on a speed buff is, well, a waste. That's why path of darkness went from being a good skill to a meh skill, too. Who in their right mind would use a skill that starts as a very dumbed down rapid manoeuver ? At least the morphs can be decent, if not as good as they used to be, but if you have no prior knowleddge of what that skill can become, it appears entirely useless.
I still can't think of any situation where wasting a slot on a skill that provides AoE reduction would be preferable over, well, anything else. Maybe it pertains to how I play, I don't PvP and and I don't do trials, so maybe in those cases it's useful. But aren't there already way enough means to obtain that buff without nerfing Momentum, and Rally especially ? Having a small heal over time combined with a damage buff is extremely useful in solo / small group situations.
Quite frankly, between the racial nerfs, the class nerfs, the upcoming skill nerfs... I'm finding it hard to select enough skills to fill my bars.
