hard to say if others are harvestbots or part of 3rd party "farmers' on 24/7, i barely find raw nodes except for alchemy i see everywhere. i should be questing on dailies instead of trying to find a few for master writs i get and plus and got my newer alt need to catch up on researches.
i set aside for 2 hours and got nothing but raws, and getting thirsty and seem wasting my time on craglorn.
gather rate on nirnhoned/crux are horrible, and getting disgusted when it should be fun to play, this drag too long., this is one of most glaring issue, lack of able to get resources you need within reasonable timeframe. i ran out of those nirn source for writs and not able to get restocked on time.
what was the problem with how hard to get? it is just damn pixels. fighting the bot scripts? you would had put some code to prevent "all -day harvest runners" exploiting and only to see "You have gathered and reach limited per day, you may resume after 24 hours cooldown on next nirnhoned/crux", also prevent bringing multiple alts, but problem would be they would log with several accounts to bypass limit allowances.
only way to hurt them, devalue the resources to so cheap that almost no one needed except for 1 or 2 for writs if come across for nirn writs.
Or pull out all the writs that required nirnhoned, and retire them.

✭✭It's definitely frustrating but the bots have nothing to do with the drop rate. The rng fires when each node is accessed. So even if a bot or farmer hit the node right before you and you waited until it appeared again, your chance to get nirncrux would be the same as their's was.
I'd be all for an adjustment to the drop rate though, fortified isn't really used outside of research and people only usually run one nirnhoned weapon. It can definitely stand to drop more frequently, but no need to limit an individual to a certain amount per day.
I've had craglorn runs that yielded 10 nirn in a couple hours and runs that netted zero in the same time. ✭✭✭✭✭Yeah, I hardly ever find any Nirncrux in the wild, but sometimes I get lucky.
Tonight I had a research slot open up in Woodworking, and all I have left to research in Woodworking is Nirnhoned, so I chose to buy a Nirnhoned shield, since I prefer to use two-handed Blacksmithing weapons with a one-handed Blacksmithing weapon and shield on my back bar. As luck would have it, TamrielTradeCentre showed that the cheapest one available was being sold by somebody in one of my guilds.
@Dracofyre: What server and platform are you on? I'm on both NA PC/MAC and EU PC/MAC. If you need 1 or 2 Nirncrux for master writs, if I have the kind you need then I'll sell you some at the low end of the going rate. I have more of the Fortified than the Potent-- hardly any Potent, in fact. Send me a mail at @SeaGtGruff if you're on PC/MAC, and let me know how many and what kind you need, then I'll check my supply, look up the going rates, and give you a quote. Xerikten✭✭✭✭it depends on the time of day that you are there. peak times is just pointless. i have a house in the zone and make a loop. sometimes i get none but usually 1-3. i keep going when i get one hoping to get on a good rng streak. it isn't something i can just run around any more for when busy as too many make it a game to grief you at a node.0

✭I'm probably nitpicking here, but it's not "hard" to get. It's just long, unreliable, and boring.
"Hard" would be, I don't know, something like "finish a no-death veteran mode trial run in less than 15 minutes while naked". "Gather a zillion ressources until RNG finally blesses you" isn't hard.
Just like everything RNG based, chances are good that by the time you're bored picking up ressources, you have gathered enough to sell for the cost of a nirncrux. Or 12.Edited by Uryel on August 3, 2019 10:07AM4 -

✭Yes potent nirncrux (blacksmithing trait) has always been rare but the fortified (clothing trait) is easier to farm and cheaper to buy.
I got a few potent nirncrux from my gold event boxes when i did writs. Prior to that i farmed it back in the day but got tired of the grind.0 -

Basically I do writs every day and when I get surveys in Craglorn I hit the nodes on the way between surveys. Doing that gives me plenty of nirn.and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."2 -

aaisoaho✭✭✭✭✭I haven't personally seen any botters in Craglorn while farming. I've tried to find good farming routes to run, but for me it seems only eastern part of Craglorn has a good mat density - my usual farming route takes about 15 mins to run and yields about 200 raw mats for each profession. (200 silks, 200 ore etc. except leather) Sometimes when I'm bored and have nothing to do IRL, I can go and do 8 laps of farming (~2 hours) and I get something like 3-8 nirncrux drops (potent and fortified).
Getting nirncrux is not hard, it is just time demanding because of the droprate. Getting nirnhoned trait on the other hand is a bit harder if you're not willing to take part in the economy, because you can get a nirnnhoned item by doing the main questline in Craglorn (and IIRC, vMA can drop nirnhoned weapons too) - and the piece is random.
If you're not willing to invest time in farming, the best suggestion is to invest gold to get those items. After all, gold is tied to the time spent - if you can farm something in seconds, it will be valued less than something that can be farmed only in hours.1 -

✭✭✭✭✭I used to farm Craglorn quite regularly on PC/NA. I'd been farming for nirncrux since I was a lowly Vet rank 4 in a Vet 11 zone!
Its around a 1 in 200 drop rate (doubled from 1 in 400 before One Tamriel) for nirncrux, with 1 in 4 being potent. Anything that drops ore, cloth, leather, or wood can drop it, including the daggerback pigs. Yes, the farming CP passives apply. You can also get potent anf fortified from the same node.
My recommendation is that you don't farm for the nirncrux. Farm to accumulate ore, cloth, and wood raw mats, and the nirncrux drops will happen!3 -

Sell it to a vendor and use the gold to buy Nirns from the guild trader.
Also as mentioned - if you PVP you'll have an abundance of Transmutation stones. Transmute a crafted staff to Nirn and then decon it. There's about a 70% chance you'll get a Nirn stone in return.0 -

I wouldn’t recommend it as an option for players who are frustrated with the nirncrux drop rate in nodes.
I’ve only had two nirn drops on animals in the 5+ years since Craglorn debuted in May 2014.0 -

✭✭For what is supposed to be a "rare drop", the drop rate for Nirn trait stones isn't actually that bad. There are lots of ways you can make farming easier on yourself - here's a few tips:-- Invest some skill points into Keen Eye. It's incredible how easy it is to miss nodes that are secreted away. (One you learn a route, see below, you can redistribute these points somewhere else).
- Farm when it's dark in Craglorn. With points in Keen Eye, you'll really see where all the nodes are.
- Use an add-on that tracks nodes for you. I use HarvestMap, which drops pins. This is a great way to learn a route rich in nodes.
- As some others here have said, try Upper Craglorn more than Lower. It isn't supposed to be the case, but I can say from experience that Upper Craglorn still has a better drop rate. In case you don't know what that is, Upper Craglorn runs from Dragonstar in the West, log the road past Sanctum Ophidia, and down to the Overrun Nirncrux Mine.
- Try to go off-road. Most nodes will follow rock formations and so on, and too many people just farm on and around the roads. Nodes also tend to be clumped, so if you see one there's probably another close by.
- Again, as others have said, any node or mob that can drop a clothing, blacksmithing, or woodworking item can also drop a Nirn. It's worth bashing animal mobs and hitting nodes on your run. It also breaks the monotony.
- Learn a route. Using all of the above, the very best way to farm efficiently and effectively is to learn a node-rich route. Run it regularly. I have a route that takes about an hour, there and back. On a good run I'll take 4-5 nirn, but you have to be prepared to have a bad day and take none. I tend to run that route 2-3 times per week. I have plenty of nirn, but I have plenty of raw mats too, which I refine and sell off the stuff I don't need. It's very profitable.
Finally, the drop rate is not affected by level. I tend to take new builds to Upper Craglorn for my runs. I combine my nirn route with the daily quest you can pick up in Dragonstar town, where you run all of the Upper Craglorn delves. Stick an XP scroll on, and you've got several levels, 2 skill points, a load of increases in skill levels, and probably some nirn too !

The Gremlins of RNG are the Gremlins of RNG. You hunted two hours? Took me months to find my first nirncrux. When, a few *weeks* later I found a second, it was when I killed a welwa.0 -

Just how i do it, waiting for pugs takes so long you may aswell be gathering nodes. i have 15 potent and over 100 fortified so you can see the drop rate on potent is really poor.0 -

i would buy a few, but i am saving my gold for one of most elusive motif i need to get, 3 times i found and i dont have enough, and only to find in other towns and overpriced, but only to see it gone again, tired of chasing a ghost.
dont know if devs were not thinking clearly or being lazy to fix, we dont need that RNG, being so low just make players get fed up, as it was suppose to be enjoyable, not to create frustrations. it feel that wasnt nice.1 -
xbangax✭✭I got my first perfect roe after 60 fish. Yesterday I fished for hours trying to get into a vet dungeon for a monster helm. Caught almost 350 fish and didnt get another until about 340. RNG is insane

Be glad the Nirncrux drop rate is what it is now, @Dracofyre.
Because when Craglorn debuted as a Zone, the drop rate was 50% lower than now ... and was only in the top half of the Zone above the ridgeline (Upper Craglorn).
In other words, the new kids have it on easy street now.
In addition, there’s no weighted RNG between parts of the Zone. All equipment nodes have an equal chance of a nirncrux drop in the entire zone. Which incidentally has been my personal experience lately ... equal distribution between Upper and Lower.
Normally, I don’t contradict @SirAndy ... whom has good advice 99% of the time. But, weighted RNG nirn drops (based on geography) is a myth.2 -

✭Not sure about bots. What I am sure of is group cherry-pickers. I see the same three players running in different directions around Shada's tears.
Rubedite, Ruby Ash are both worthless atm. So no-one is taking the main mats.
Harvesters are taking Nirncrux and jewellery dust, leaving other players to strip and reset the nodes and rubbish that is left behind. furinture is hostory, so no-one wants the furnishing mats.

✭✭If you see a bunch of farmers, stop farming and do something else.
Find a circuit or route to run, and if you see another player on that route, change it up.
Edit fortified drop like crazy. I've farmed for an hr and have gotten 4 in that hr where I didn't get any potent. Sometimes you'll get a potent and fortified in one node.
