-I was captured by cultists as I slept *caldharbor tutorial*

-I was on a ship bound for morrowind *vvardenfell tutuorial*

-I was invited to summerset *summerset tutorial*

-I was traveling else where *elsweyr tutorial*

-I . . . have done this before *skip*

etc, would love to see that mod essentially made an opening choice after character creation to give us a bit more freedom and flavor.
ESO player since beta.
game got too disappointing.

Not happening, because ZoS made chapter tutorial system not for you, but for the new players to force them into the best looking content up to date. They don't care about your immersion.

    That's very sad ofc.

Couldn’t they add that as an option after a new player completes the latest tutorial? I recently started the game myself and while I’m really enjoying it, this is something I also wish were different for better immersion RP.

    As I said elsewhere:
I myself always think it would have been so much better of they had not made the new "tutorials" as -tutorials-, but... added them as "expansion intro".
Like... the first time your character goes to Vvardenfell, they cannot just wayshrine, but need to take the boat, which shipwrecks on firemoth isle... the first time your character follows queen Ayrenns invitation to summerset, they get intercepted by sea-sload magic and end up in the mind trap... the first time your character goes to elsweyr, they get caught in a dragon attack and end up rescued by some friendly khajhiit... etc.
...and give people the -option- to bypass all the old in case they want to start with the new.

    Alas.

Since we're talking plot and flavour: How do you explain away Skyshards, your character being immortal and them lacking a soul (as many NPCs note) without completing the Coldharbour tutorial?

In my opinion, they should never have bothered with new tutorials at all. The original one works just fine; it's the only one that allows for coherent storytelling, because it explains the above.

They should have given people a choice of where to start playing after escaping Coldharbour. That place can easily be Vvardenfell, Summerset, Elsweyr or any other future expansion area. The dialogue you have with the Prophet makes it clear that where you end up is a matter of chance anyway, at least in terms of storytelling. (Yes, I know that in reality, it depends on your alliance.)

    You get this option now.

All you have to do is one tutorial - any tutorial - and you always get an option on every following character to skip the tutorial.

However, the original tutorial sets the scene for Vestige, Skyshards etc. so everyone should do it, and the new Eslweyr one teaches you combat better than anything before, so I'd want a new player to get that one as well.

I'm all for the second and subsequent characters on an account getting a choice but the first one needs a good introduction to the game's story, and how it works. No individual tutorial really meets all the requirements (yet?)

I've always suspected that they are retrofitting to allow race/class selection to eventually determine where you start (i.e., when all continents are incorporated, you could conceivably choose where you start, which was once common).

I don't mind the new player experiences, but have run into many new players who didn't know there was a 'main story' line waiting for them in their faction capitol.

No, no, no... you do NOT get the option to play all the "new tutorials" as "expansion intro".

You get plopped into the newest expansion no matter if you want to or not, and can only go back and follow the mainstory "by hand"...
You don't even get any choice as to -where- you would like to start...

And as has been said, without the "classic progression", things may somethines nbot make much sense.

But yeah, you can skip the tutorial. Since forever, really.

And yeah, you can also skip ahead to whatever point in the story you like since One Tamriel... though personally I really prefer that following the classic storyline was thew default, and skipping ahead the -option-...
