Blade of Woe Bug

I was trying to raise the level of the Dark Brotherhood in one of my characters but i can't, the option of using blade of woe doesn't appear.

Any idea how to fix it? @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_BillE

Also note that even without equipment when i do sneak i move without penalty.

I have had the blade of woe unavoidable before. Relogging fixed it for me.

Also, using the blade of woe does not raise your db skill level. You must do db quests to raise your db skill.

Could be a number of things, like the NPCs you're targeting aren't supposed to be killable, or you have Prevent Attacking Innocents set to ON (though I think you're supposed to get a message).

I try Relogging lot of times, disable Addons etc, only one character has that bug, Killing Spree It's the fastest way to level up, so blade of woe is necessary.

You said you move without penalty when sneaking, even without gear - are you a vampire? Feed and Blade of Woe share the same button (synergy). Try moving closer to your target maybe, if that's the case?

No clue why then.
Do your other synergies pop up as normal and work? Contact Support maybe they have some tips how to deal with this bug?

Contacting a support is the last thing i want to do, sometimes i think they don't even know they work for TESO, they are probably employees of Candy Crush or something.

been there, I WISH I had any ideas how to fix it. but restarting the game a few times until BoW reappears... temporarily seems to be the only thing that works. some of the time. its not an addon issue. I have multiple characters that steal and murder and only one of them got hit by this bug. disabling addons didn't help anyways. its also not vampire/werewolf issue, because my bugged character is akhajit were, but so is my NOT bugged character. why does one work just fine and the other - loses ability to BoW? no idea. it is apparently a bug that's been in game for a number of years, but it appears so randomly, I'm guessing that they still haven't figured out what's causing it.

I'm sorry OP that you are dealing with it, all I can offer really is solidarity and wishes of luck. try restarting a few times more, see if the golld old fashioned turn it off and back on again decides to randomly fix things.

This is a dumb question, but I don't remember. Does the blade of woe cost a skill point when you earn it or is it automatically available after the quest?

I've recently had random Blade of Woe troubles with the usual (PCEU) abilities not triggering type: I get the X to use Blade of Woe and when I do the it just does not happen but I still lose stealth and the backstabbee gets hostile. Your seems is different.

My guess it might be stealth bugging on you. If its not vampirism or gear, how about Ledgermain passive improved hiding?

What level is your character?

I found out a while ago when BoW suddenly stopped working consistently for me that I was only having trouble with it on my characters that were under level 10. It started working properly again once I hit level 10 with each of those characters.

(I was having the same issue with 'Feed' on my sub level 10 vampires.)

So now I don't do the initial DB Blade of Woe quest ('Kill an innocent in Anvil') until I reach level 10 with a character.
(Same thing with the vampire quest.)

I haven't had any problem with BoW or Feed since.

I've had one (out of many) bug out and have Blade of Woe just stop working altogether.

Luckilly it was on a new alt who hadn't levelled too much ~

and no, she was not a vamp, the skill just wasn't available to use no matter what *shrug*.

It happened after completing the Joral Estate run and speaking with the DB guild leader and had done all intro quests and settled in Alinor for writs and thieving.

Anyway, due to low level, just re-rolled the character as I got no help with a fix here

I've noticed it "bugging" on me quite a bit. The "X" will come up and even tho my target nor I have moved, it will disappear just seconds after appearing. Sometimes running out then back in will help, sometimes it never comes back until I relog.

Grasping at straws; there is a server de-sync bug reported that has different side effects;
Kill something but can not loot as the final resting place on the server side is not where it is shown on your screen
Combat telegraphs and resultant aoe not aligned
Whilst in combat not able to "land" attacks as the thing you are attacking is not actually where you think it is

Reported in bugs section and acknowledged as a bug with a fix coming in Update 23.

May be related; however as others (e.g. Linaleah) have had the issue before it may not be.

for me at least, out of 4 primary characters I've been stealing and murdering on for the duration of event that just ended... 2 were max level and 2 were lvl 23 at the start of the event, lvl 27 at the end of it. the 2 lowbies are both female khajiit werewolves. both AD. one was fine, no issues. the other would lose ability to BoW one day, randomly regain it back the next day... only to lose it again. and the most inexplicable part is that each day, i would test if BoW was working again, outside of heists... and it would... only to disappear inside the heists/assassinations.

3 of the characters are on ESO plus account. 1 is not. the one that broke is on ESO plus, but its the ONLY broken character with ESO plus, and to be honest, i really REALLY didn't want to start over on another character there. all 4 have legerdemain and thieves guild passives.

so... what in a world is causing it? full moon? mercury in retrograde? random acts of Sheogorath? all of the above? I have no idea.

It's an automated response, so it's highly unlikely that anyone will read it. You need to respond to the ticket with a description and that video you have would be good.

They didnt fix that in 2 and a half years?? One of my chars got that [snip] around level 17, too progressed to just casually delete her though, now every second time I wanna play her I have to restart the whole game, it just happened again during a Black Sacrament! How long do you need to fix this?? @ZOS_GinaBruno
The vampire synergy still works fine btw so it specifically only affects the BoW
