Healer Problems...

Any one else ever want to branch out to something new but get sucked back in?

I played WoW for 9+ years and while I've been a pretty good tank and a decent dps, I shined as a raid healer. Restoration shaman was my go to PvE class. Enhancement PvP. But anyway...i raid healed for a very long time. Was really good at it. I would try my hardest to get away from it, to try and be a dedicated tank but any guild I was in would need a healer replaced and I felt obligated or guilty and would speak up...which meant being stuck as a healer.

Eventually I took a break from WoW during the vanilla era of a game called RIFT and man was i in heaven!! The J usticar class in that game was a tank build that actually gained and held aggro by healing!! Oh boy, I could do both at!!

But guess what...I was interviewed by a raid guild...gave them my credentials from WoW days...and was made a raid healer. When ever a boss fight called for 3 ranks, I was allowed to help and we'd shine. I could tank the boss or adds and my skills as a healer helped the dedicated healers when they needed support. I even had others vouche for me to become the off tank instead of reserve. No go. I was a raid healer. I did my job and I did it well.

I went back to WoW when things fell apart with that serious raiding guild. Went back to restoration healing.

Now, here I am in ESO. I don't do Trials, but I do Normal and Vet dungeons and PvP. And guess what I am?

A Healer. Yes I enjoy it or I wouldn't do it at all lol!!!

Am I the only one who ever seems to get sucked back into the role of healing?

I'm also a main (templar) healer, cause that's what i feel comfortable running as when doing vtrials and vdlc dungeons.
And people appreciate my healer skills, so that makes it all the more worthwhile and rewarding.

But yes, sometimes i get a bit 'bored' of it, so i try to play on my DD's, but the 'healer in me' is never really gone. Even when i play as dd, i still pay attention to everybodies' health and help out where i can (so im not really a good DD :D ).

Lucky enough I have awesome friends and guild members that don't force me into a role, otherwise i wouldn't love being a healer as much as i do now.

This is one of the first MMOs I ever really enjoyed healing in. I was a feral druid main in WoW and in FF, I preferred tanking classes and dps Machinist. I usually hate healing but something about ESO's style of healing (having to juggle buffs/debuffs, not playing "grid clicker", and being able to recover people's mistakes without going OOM and having to just sit there waiting to recover) majes it waaaay more fun.
Even if you feel like you always end up healing, at least maybe the difference of it in ESO will be fun for you. ^^

I'm healer main since almost 20 year now ^^
Can't stop healing, It's what I love. If a game don't require healer, I just go find another one cuz Idc about other role.

I've level up every class and build them ready to go in any vTrial and I love playing healer on this game, it's fun and dynamic.

I know exactly where you're coming from man. I've tried dps though and I get bored with it outside of PvP and when I've ran dungeons as dps, I'm just like you with my eyes on the health bars.

I miss my shaman. All three specs. I've not found a game that gives me that feeling since. I can't play it anymore because my computer died and I don't have spare money to buy a new one and it's been better on my overall life health.

My first ever character in this game was a Bosmer Stamina Nightblade, I was unfamiliar with the MMO aspect of game-play, I just ran through flailing about no clue what I was doing. Still, this was plenty of fun. But my real fun in this game started when I got into a steady 4 person group and was asked to be the healer. I turned my Khajiit 'Drops-the-Ball' into a healing main. I eventually got to do some Vet Trail content on...you guessed it, my Khajiit Templar. I was new to it, but learned bar swaps, and spell weaving on this character. Learning to heal was a great amount of fun and changed the way I play the game entirely as far as execution goes.
I know a lot of players prefer DPS and that's fine, but I find quite a bit of enjoyment and pleasure by playing a healer. I also get a lot of encouragement from other players for my healing. I'm not the best healer, but I can probably get through most end-game content on my heals.

At times I do feel obligated to queue up the healer as not everyone in group is familiar with healing. It's a nice feeling to know you can heal through most Vet content.
    I truly enjoy healing.

My Khajiit was found abandoned in the wild by an Argonian shaman. This Argonian felt it right to bring the Khajiit to his village, eventually teaching him in the ways of healing, but since he was never quite as good as the Argonians at healing, the Argonian shaman dubbed him Drops-the-Ball. An Argonian raised Khajiit healer?! Yeah, it works.

I tend to take roles other people seem to struggle with. Some time ago I couldn't stand to see bad tanks and because of that played tanks only. But then I noticed that I end up in groups with no healer and 3 bad dds instead and as a tank I can't save from stupid. But as a healer I can! So I started to play healer.

And still my most favourite role is sap-tank, but since Morrowind I can't play this build anymore.
Main char is a Strong Nord Man, Thief, Vampire, Healer, Mastercrafter. PC-EU since 2016.

It depends. Some guilds work with interviews so they get to know the person and how serious/dedicated they are.
Guilds don't want people joining up in their core group for vtrials if they are gonna bounce the next week.
Or if they are looking for a new tank for example, they won't take someone on that only has a healer or dd.

And the person being interviewed can sense by the interview how the guild works. If you don't like their attitude during the talk, you can still politely decline the invitation.

Once you're in, and do planned raids, it's still fun. The accomplishments you achieve together is worth it!

I usually switch between healing and dps, it depends on the game.

In raiding guilds and when I’m doing pve I find I’m usually a dps because I’m good at it. In pvp I usually gravitate to healing for the same reason.

I usually play the role where I feel I’m having the largest impact.
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
    Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

Yep I both love it and hate it all at once.

Main healer for years but always needed a DD because healer spots were taken and my DPS was alright so it wasn't a fuss I did really enjoy DPSing for a time but then my healer was needed more and more and I liked it frankly but at times one does tend to get bored of what they're doing even if they're really good at it so you want to switch it up but in the end people join you for how good you are at X role, mine would be healing. Its different with my friends I can do whatever unless we need a healer but I always go back to healing because its just what I am best at. I have no illusions that I am not even an average DPS really. 60k on a raid dummy is pretty pathetic, 35 on a 6mil so honestly yeah ... i do get sucked back in but when I think about it, I dont think i'd have it any other way really.

It's silly, but I get you. I main a healblade and love how it's so casual and comfortable for me. I even have reasonable dps with him.

I recently played more of my dps and tank, and while I'm getting used to other roles and it is fun to vary, they're never as interesting and comfortable my heals. :D

i play a healer cuz i can also dps at the same time. And i just switch a set or two and i can go full dps, since my attributes are the same.

healing in ESO is/was fun and rewarding. it will not be next patch, however

there are more healing spells than springs and orbs. I actually like a longer duration on springs.

Illustrious morph heal more and stay 12sec now, seem good to me.
With this change I think we're good now.

But the main problem still not adresses.
With magdps using mystic orb and stamdps who get the best staking hp/s skill with no requirement will just make healer even less needed.
In most content, only bad/newcomer need heal. When dps and tank are good enough it's way easier and fast to bring 3dd+tank. And with these stam heal change, it's gonna be the same for most trial..
That the reason why I'm worried about this patch rn.

I mained Janna in league for 7 years before I moved to ESO. Funny thing tho I did'nt like eso healing at first. Mainly due to the low skill cap. It's still a problem today only getting worse next patch. What drew me to healing was mainly the fact that it's way more dynamic than dps.

Same problem. 12 years of WoW: healed with every possible class (altho I really nailed it as shaman and monk), and same goes on in ESO....I suck at dps, good enough as tank, but I totally nail it (again) as healer.

Guardian Angel achievement in Ryzom, Guild Warden in EQ2. Started a Templar in ESO and now i am a Warden again :). But the game-olution of group and raid content is no longer the fun for me. I am a soloist since Rise of Kurnak now. Or like someone said in another thread. Capable Casual :D
