A Vampire against Molag Bal

Is it even possible for a melee vampire to beat him? During the Titanfall (See what I did there :P) you get barraged with fire damage from so many titans ... it seems to pretty much kill me instantly no matter what I do. Ive managed 1 time to get past that onto the second phase, but I had expended so many resources (most my potions gone and all my eq fully destroyed) that I simply cant survive.

I suppose Im venting more than Im asking. This fight is pretty terrible for a melee vampire, and after all the trouble Ive had over the past few days with this game ... Im pretty pissed off. The advertised "play how you want" seems pretty BS right now. Im playing how I want and I cant seem to overcome this fight.

Curious if there are any other melee vamps out there that had trouble with the main boss as well, and wondering what some of you did to overcome the titan fire damage?

So ... about 10 minutes after coming on here to rant, I figured out how to make it past the titans. What I did was focus on conserving my resources against Molag Bal until the titans come out; basically auto-attacking when I could and otherwise staying out of his range (that ranged attack he throws from time to time does less damage than his melee it seems.)

I observed that the titans arrive onto the field on a set timer - so when they arrived, I just popped immoveable (the heavy armor activate ability), then stayed in blocking mode and supplemented that with self-healing. It seems that the titans only last for a certain length of time and then despawn on their own. For me this was repeatable (I still died like 4 times thanks to having all my eq blown up and low potion count, each time I could withstand enough damage to get the titans to despawn).

Once the titans despawn it's a whole new battle. Sometimes one would stick around, but by itself it wasn't hard. If one stuck around, I dealt with it and then focused back on Molag Bal. At that point, I would continue to try to keep him ranging me, with timed blocks to seemingly lessen the damage. In this second stage he seems to summon 3 or 4 balls of energy from the sky and shoots them down on the battlefield as well. That was my time to go in and attack. Sometimes he would be in that mode for quite awhile, and it was easy to avoid the balls of energy while moving around him and attacking. Once he came out, he almost always followed it up with the heavy attack fire-breath combo, so I just roll-dodged away from that.

A little lather, rinse, repeat seemed to do the trick. I hope this helps any other melee vamps out there! Good luck guys and gals.

With the helpful advice of some guildies, 3 hours of spare time (Lots of mailed repair kits to not have to start the quest over) i finally managed to kill Molag Bal as a vampire with mostly melee skills. I-AM-PROUD! *Applies sticker*

Here's the tactic i used that ultimately allowed me to beat the stupid thingl

    Skills,
Two-Handed ; Critical Charge, Brawler, Mist Form, Degeneration, Power Surge. Ultimate = Devouring Swarm
Restoration Staff ; Mages Wrath, Rapid Regen, Mist Form, Degeneration, Healing Springs. Ultimate = Devouring Swarm

    Phase 1,
Stay out of the ground stuff thats bad, keep Degeneration applied to the boss and just manually dps him down, try to go into the next phase with full stamina

    Phase 2,
Kill 1-2 of the Titans while running for a LOS block, charge near one if possible to cover the ground quicker, pop into mist if needed. (I found there was always a titan dropped near the rocks that are on pretty much straight in front of you to your left as you come up the stairs, which is where i went.) While under cover use your staff to give yourself some regen, maybe drop the healing aoe if you can see the titans bunching somewhere. Then hit the ultimate and charge at the beasties, its important you do it this way, otherwise without the super healing from the bats you might not survive the charge, let alone being stood there. Once you're in melee use Brawler to lay about some damage, giving yourself a nice shield and basically let the bats do their work, hopefully your LOS will have bunched up the Daedra, if you don't get them all you should clear 2/3rds of the room.

    Phase 3,
Once the last of the Titans are down just go back to carefully picking the Prince apart, but BE CAREFUL. Once you're through Phase 2 its pretty much just a case of not doing anything stupid and surviving. Phase 2 is not the sort of thing you want to repeat.

I realize that my specific build might not be applicable to everyone, and that some might not have the free points to allocate like i did in last minute grabs of these spells, I thought i'd just write this up while my hands were literally still shaking just to give you some idea of how i personally managed it.

@ The Designers though : Despite this being proof that it -IS- possible, i'd still suggest you take another look at this fight, or more so specifically the Vampire fire issue, Playing as a tank i have about as high as i can get spell resistance to try and mitigate some of the huge damage i receive from fire attacks, while i understand the logic, Vampires suffer heavily with this while Werewolves have no major drawback like this. i realize there are some balance issues to be attended, but seriously if you're going to make the game use so much fire by default, please please please rethink the notion of having a specific ''faction'' of the game take such crazy amounts of damage from that element. ESPECIALLY if you're going to make a late-game-main-story-relevant fight like this one use sooo much fire. It makes being a vampire in this situation almost impossible.

Good Luck my fellow night stalkers, i hope this helped some!
