Suggestion: Missing Weapon Roles

Like many other people here, there a lot of missing weapon types that i'd like to see added to the game (spears, crossbows, flexible weapons like flails or whips, javelins) and it would be cool to see those in later chapters, but what I'd really like to see is some of the missing play styles filled mechanically, rather than just new graphics.

Specifically I personally really wish there was a stamina based option to heal your group, but there are several other play styles that aren't represented currently in the game. Such as magicka based melee weapon, a one handed magicka option, or a ranged stamina based tanking weapon. Some of those would obviously need some new weapon types and/or skill lines, but I think there is an obvious where some of those mechanics could be inserted into the existing skill trees.

Specifically, the "One Hand and Shield" skill line is the only existing line where you can equip multiple weapons types which have no effect on gameplay at all. In the dual wield line, two handed line, and destruction staff line changing your weapon has a passive effect on your play style, and I think adding that diversity into the one handed shield line would be a great way to cover some play styles that don't currently exist in the game.

Because my personal preference would be for a stamina based healing item, I would like to see one of the weapon types (mace?) change some of the active skills to provide some healing. Perhaps low slash could apply minor lifesteal instead of maim, or charge could target an ally and apply a damage shield.

Or for those into the melee magicka role perhaps the dagger could allow the abilities to scale on spell stats instead of weapon stats. Or perhaps the dagger could become a thrown weapon to allow for ranged stamina tanking (though I think a javelin and shield would be better for that).

What do you guys think? Are there other missing combat roles I didn't think of? Would the tanking role of the 1 handed and shield line be too adversely effected if one of the weapon types changed your role?

    I know, right?

    There is.
We call it "Echoing Vigor", stranger... ;)
There is also the option to use "Mend Wounds"... tho that is more like a magical effect applied to whatever weapons. Still works tho.

But generally, it makes a LOT of sense that there is no "stamina healing". I mean, how'd that work? Heal by punching the wounds?? Stamina -is- musclepower, and while its just as good at magic in making wounds, healing is more of an issue...

See above for my thoughts on the matter of "new weapons", you will find some of that there.
No ranged stamina tanky weapon tho. I mean... what would that be? Why would that be? Tanks are kinda -supposed- to be out in front, so the rest can hide behind them or something, not in the back with a ranged weapon... :p

In the context of new weapon types/skill lines... My priority would be to add 2 specific new skill lines/weapon types.

Cross bow - effectively a 2H version of the bow, slower, hits harder, hits multiple targets (perhaps less range?). This should have its own skill tree.

But more than cross bows, what ESO requires is a further magica "weapon" skill line. Because at present, there is only one for damage - Destro staffs. Compare that with stamina, which gets duel wield, 2H, bow and sword n shield and within these there are a variety of individual weapon types, sword, dagger, mace, axe etc... but magica gets one, a staff.

My suggestion would be some form of magical tomb (book) as the weapon, which would be held in one hand while the other casts the spells. Not everyone wants to or should need to have a staff to cast magic.

I could flesh this out with far more detail, but Id likely be shouting into the void :(

Before anymore weapons for Stamina, Magicka needs at least one more (preferably two).

There are ways to create new playstyles without introducing weapon lines.

I remember back in the day when it was a lot easier to be a magicka-based character using our already existing melee weapons. You could be a magicka nightblade assassin type with dual daggers. Various changes to game mechanics over the years have made those setups problematic. I still have one character who is magicka and only uses stamina-based weapons, but it creates some challenging limitations and one has to build it carefully. If weapons were switched to simply return max resource, we'd see a resurgence of differing weapon types again.

I guess a crossbow could get a ranged tanking functionality. They were really advantageous in sieges and one of their pros is the ability to reload behind cover (crenelations for example). One ability factoring into that might be a Pavese active, increasing def in some way whilst limiting mobility. Combine that with a taunt and you have the groundwork for tanking done.

Yes, back before morrowind two sword was meta for magplar, it went away because of sustain, then increased LA damage then staffs getting two item slots.

it still the reverse of stamina builds as you use few class skills, for swords on magic build you use no weapon skill.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.
