I've been experimenting with this class based somewhat on Xynode's easy mode sorc where I use the Undaunted Infiltrator and Infallible Mage sets because they both have a huge 5th item buff to heavy attack (lightning staff) damage. I don't even have the Maelstrom staff yet which I know will increase it even more. I tried the Sergeant's Mail set, but that doesn't seem to work on staff damage at all from what I can tell. I was wondering if there is an easy and quick way to compare the lightning staff heavy attack damage increase of, for example, the Undaunted Infiltrator set vs. a set like Crafty Alfiq? UI gives 2nd and 3rd item set max magicka increases and that negates those 2 increases in the Crafty Alfiq set. So basically it comes down to is the UI increase of 1161 flat damage to heavy attacks (assuming you've used a skill that costs magicka recently) more than the increase we'd get from the additional 3,656 more max magicka from Crafty Alfiq? I heard that for every 10.5 max magicka it's like having an additional 1 spell damage in terms of damage that basically all mag sorc skills will do, but also lightning staff heavy attacks as well. So you can compare whether or not having x max magicka or y spell damage would be better for dps, I just don't know how to compare the extra damage that the max magicka can do to a flat damage increase of 1161 in this example. I know there are lots of moving parts like which mundus stone is chosen and where CPs are used. But all other things given how can I tell which set will increase my heavy attack damage more? I know I can get all the gear, waste transmute cyrstals to perfect it all and make everything gold and spend hours testing on a dummy, but I'm hoping someone know of a way to figure this out without such a huge time investment.
