Navigating the trading system

I am new and hoping that I simply haven’t figured out how to navigate this yet.

1) Browsing Wares: I want to be able to browse, but it seems that the search function doesn’t work unless you put in the exact name of a single item. If that is the case ,then it is pointless to have other parameters such as category and it is just painful to use. Why can’t I browse all the items in a particular category if I want? Or as long as I enter enough parameters to limit results to 100 items or something? For instance, I wanted to see what patterns are available for what price. I haven’t a clue which are more common or more expensive and had hoped to browse the wares of several traders.

2) Quantities available for purchase: Do sellers have the option to sell items in different quantities, perhaps with bulk discounts? I was looking for a particular reagent and only quantities out of my price range were available. I wouldn’t have minded paying more per unit to just get the few I needed but this was not an option.

Overall, the system strikes me as being much less user friendly than a server-wise trading post where you can browse items by category and anyone can buy and sell. Perhaps this way is more lore appropriate, though, and I’m okay with potentially needing to shop around. If there isn’t even a way to browse items though, I won’t be using it except to check for things I really need as it isn’t fun or convenient to repeatedly search for individual items. I have enjoyed browsing the trading post for good deals and things I didn’t even know I wanted in other MMO’s and end up spending more money that way (no surprise there, lol). If the guild trader system is really as clunky to use as it feels right now, I don’t see how that benefits potential buyers, sellers or the company.

Are you on PC or console?

I'm pretty sure you can browse by category on PC, but I don't know how the console interface works.

If you are on PC, there's an addon called AwesomeGuildStore that improves the UI for the guild store and allows you to save multiple searchers.

I frequently browse traders for Furnishing patterns and motifs I don't know, and known/unkown is also a filter.

As for question 2, yes, sellers can sell multiple items, but they are limited by the in game stack size, which is 200 for materials. I don't know if there is a different size for potions and food, but I don't think so.

Gear is sold separately, and motifs/furnishings can be stacked as well.

@AlnilamE thank you so much! I had hoped it was something silly that I had overlooked! The problem was that I was trying to search by “keyword” but browsing categories works just fine! Now I can spruce up my apartments a bit! B)

    Oh, and on PC
