Block and Dodge

winged_tortoise
Hi! This is my second of three questions:

How can I best use the game’s block and doge mechanics?

I see it when players swing at me and I see it when players are about to to make special attacks, but I am not good at avoiding them. Does anyone have any advice?

When I see a special attack coming through should I double tap the “a” or “d” key to dodge left or right?

How about blocking? When is the best time to hit block? Is there a key to using this game mechanic?

Thanks!

    About dodge:

It is fast way how to mitigate burst of enemy attacks. on ranged attacks it is very effective, but not so much on melee, but still usable. It takes time and experience (you need to know what enemy class is and what and when he can use burst)
You can use both double-tap or you can set it on mouse for example. Then you can use it fast. you can also set double-tap sensitivity in game settings

    About block:

It isnt about negating enemy attacks, but about limiting their damage - you can still use your skills when blocking though (because of blockcasting) . It is most effective with sword&shield because of its passives.

Thanks! I had no idea I could still use my skills while blocking. It works great! I also had no idea I could adjust my double click speed. That works great too.

I’ve been practicing both mechanics and the game is starting to slow down and reveal the simplicity of a well timed block or interrupt. Next comes dodge!

You need a mouse with more buttons to roll Dodge. Hitting 2 key up events for a Dodge is slowwww

I've been using the Z key for dodge rolls and never had issues with it.

You roll dodge left with that combination? WoW... Try a button on your thumb finger in your mouse

Don't need to. I have two macro buttons on my razer deathadder, I use one of them for push to talk, and the other one for weapon-swapping. Its all up to personal preference but since dodge rolling already requires keyboard input because you need a direction , I thought putting another keyboard key like Z would be the most natural, and it was.

You can also turn your camera in the direction you need to go before you dodge
