What gear for a PVE Nightblade?

I have a Lvl 50 Cp 160+ kKhajiit Stamina Nighblade who is set up as a thief/Assassin (Yup just like all the others) However the gear I have is great for sneaking but I get wasted in combat when I help with Guild events dungeons etc. What gear should I use for him for out and out combat? I have started crafting Hundings Rage but trawling through the forums i have seen Briarhear, Spriggans put forward as overland gear plus a range of trials gear Vicious Serpent etc then there are the monster sets... Could anyone suggest which sets work well together? I was thinking Briarheart and Spriggans + a monster set? Any advice would be great...

Spriggans and hundings would be a fine starter set for dungeon things, and would probably be much easier to get. Vicious ophidian can only be obtained from running trials, so if you're having issues with dungeons, trials might be a bit hectic at the moment. Briarheart can be a bit harder to come by in certain pieces, and could be a bit more pricier.

In order of preference, monster sets can be Velidreth (Cradle of Shadows), Selene's (Selene's Web), or even Kraghs (Fungal Grotto 1).

Once you start to get gear somewhat sorted, you can look up some videos or sites to start learning a rotation to help you kill stuff faster. Alcasthq is a good site to help you get started.

Briarheart is an excellent set, (if you are built into crit, say around 50% crit). And it is likely a very good option for you, if you are finding you are dying in dungeons and trials, since it procs health back as part of the 5th piece bonus. I actually picked up a full set of Briarheart for my latest char last night for about 10k, its not expensive in the guild stores if you struggle with farming it or dont want to wait.

Pairing this with Hundings is a great option as it gives you more of the crit you need for Briarheart and also weapon damage. Its a great all round stam set and you do not have to wait while you farm it! Id say get this crafted ASAP to wear while you farm other gear.

Spriggans is mainly useful for pvp, because penetration is much more important in pvp. However it will work in pve, particularly against bosses and stronger adds (which of course you find in dungeons and trials). There are however in my opinion, better options for pve. (I put Spriggans on for pvp).

Many people swear by Relequen from Cloud Reach trial, many see this as bis for stam builds, it adds a lot of dps via light attacks. You already mentioned Vicious Ophid, another good trial set. There are actually a lot of great options that work fine, have you had a look here?

Monster set wise, I like to wear a ranged aoe proc set. I like Sellstrix, but I dont hear of many folk wearing it for some reason. Stormfist is another great option I and many folk use. Others to consider depending on your build, may be Domihaus, Slimecraw, Velidreth. Valkyn Skoria can also be an option if you need a bit more health.

Everyone is hitting on the obvious three starter sets, Hundings, Briarheart, Spriggans. The reality is, however, that your rotation and a getting some experience under your belt are the far bigger issues. I could hand you a complete set of Lok and Rele, and it wouldnt change a whole lot. Dont get me wrong, getting some decent gear is important, but dont kill yourself for it. The really shiney stuff will come.

Hundings: This is the bread and butter craftable Stamina DPS set. You cant go wrong with it. It will boost crit and weapon damage.

Briarheart: This is a slightly better version of hundings. There are 3 primary differences. 1. It's dropped gear, so you can buy the pieces you need. Briarheart daggers are spendy, but nice to have. 2. Its proc based, rather than a static bonus. This is nice because it allows you to say only run it on your front bar, and you dont lose a whole lot. Not terribly relevant if you dont have a Masters or VMA bow for your back bar. 3. It gives a small heal. Really nice if you are feeling squishy.

Spriggans: This is the classic PVP stamina set IMO. It gives a bunch of penetration. Penetration is a very important stat, but typically, your group will help give you this in a PVE setting. That said, when you are low level, and perhaps not running in the best group, spriggans becomes a very compelling option, and in a lot of scenarios, will actually be your best option as a damage set, because you likely arent getting the penetration buffs from your group that a lot of us are used to. It's also probably your strongest solo set for damage.

If you dont have Master/VMA bow, the easiest thing to do is to craft hundings rage daggers (I would prob go double sharp or Sharp/Nirn) and a bow (I would go infused with weapon damage glyph). Then make legs and chest in divines (You could go heavy here if you want to be a little tankier, just make sure you get 5 medium pieces. If you go medium, you have more flexibility with monster head/shoulder drops. Max DPS is 7 medium, but 5 medium 2 heavy will make you tankier).

Then buy/farm blue briarheart/spriggans jewelry (cuz its cheap and you wont notice the difference between purple), and divines belt, gloves, shoes. Then set your site on a monster helm and shoulders. The above recommendations are spot on: Vele/Selene/Kragh. Bloodspawn is also not a bad set when learning. Not the most damage, but will help with survival and sustain as well as ulti regen. It's also great for PVP so worth having. Finally, you could go stormfist, but its not my first choice on a stamblade.
